How long/how far should I play to determine if this is the right game for me?

I grew up with Castlevania, and I used to enjoy the metroidvania genre overall, but that was many years ago, and I can't say it's really interested me in recent times.

I got Hollow Knight in the last Humble Monthly, though, and I've heard such great things about this game, so I figured I should give it a try.

About an hour and a half in and... all I can think of is I'd be better off uninstalling and using those nearly 8gb for something else.

Have I not played enough? Am I likely to be amazed if I continue playing? Or maybe this simply isn't the genre for me anymore? Maybe my expectations were too high because of hype?
