Noteworthy issues:
Issue 12 focusses on Barney Barton, giving us a glimpse into his childhood and current life. As someone who didn’t even know Barney existed before this run, this was very much appreciated. Francavilla’s art also works perfectly here.
Issue 17 is a sort of follow up to issue 6, which was a Christmas special. In that issue Clint watches a Christmas movie with his neighbor’s kids, this issue is that Christmas movie. It’s a fun story but it did feel a bit like a filler issue.
Issue 19 is a “normal” issue in the sense that it plays an important part in the overhauling story arc. However, this issue lays a heavy emphasis on Clint’s hearing loss, often replacing words with drawn hand signing. While probably really cool to people who know sign language, since I don’t it was sometimes a little hard to follow. It was fine for one issue though, and if there are deaf people out there who really enjoyed this issue because of this then I’d say it was totally worth it!
I read this in release order, so the Kate and Clint stories alternating. You don’t have to do this, these are for by far the most part very much separate stories, so read it however you want. The alternating did make it that I wanted to keep reading, because every time a cliffhanger from 1 of the characters happened, I had to read 2 issues to continue with that story, so I absolutely flew through these issues because of that
Nice to hear you like this more than me, here are last of my thoughts on it:
"Alright, my final thoughts on this series: I definitely enjoyed this week's story arc more than the last, but it didn't have the same charm as the first two weeks. I enjoyed the separate one-off stories more than this ongoing plot, even though I know that its seeds were already sown in the first issue.
Issue #19 is, of course, this week's highlight, which together with issue #11 show what comic books can do with their medium and should be read by everyone (okay, the whole run is short and good enough to deserve a read). Issues #21-22 (aka the big finale) has its great moments too like shown in pictures above, and I really liked the "end credit shots" at the end of #22.
Overall, I enjoyed this run, but not as much I though I would after the first week. It's definitely more of a "good" than "bad", but seeing that it's often listed among the best comic books (Comicbookcanon names it 61st best comic of all time), I expected something a little more. Still I'm glad I read it, and as I said it's short enough to be read by anyone."
