A century ago, in the aftermath of the war that reshaped the Continent, Ciri accepted the throne of Nilfgaard after visiting her father, Emperor Emhyr var Emreis. When Nilfgaard emerged victorious, the empire expanded across much of the North, and Ciri eventually succeeded her father as Empress. Unlike the rulers before her, she did not rule with fear alone, but with a vision shaped by her years traveling the world with Geralt of Rivia and the witchers.
Over the course of her long and mysterious reign—prolonged by Elder Blood and arcane influences—Ciri reformed the empire. She dismantled the remnants of the Inquisition that once hunted magic users and instead legalized the practice of magic across imperial lands. Mages were permitted to openly aid villages, heal the sick, and research dangerous phenomena. Witchers, once feared and nearly extinct, were welcomed as necessary protectors in a world where monsters had begun multiplying again.
Recognizing the growing threat, Ciri sponsored the creation of a new Witcher fortress along the southern frontier near Darn Rowan, far from the political intrigues of the imperial capital. The fortress—built atop the ruins of an ancient stronghold—became a training ground for a new generation of monster hunters. Though the old secrets of witcher mutations were only partially rediscovered, a new order slowly formed, blending the traditions of Kaer Morhen with modern magical knowledge supplied by cooperating sorcerers.
For decades the system worked. Witchers roamed the empire’s roads, protecting trade routes and remote villages. Mages investigated magical anomalies before they spiraled out of control. And under the banner of Nilfgaard, much of the Continent enjoyed an uneasy but stable peace.
But a hundred years later, something has begun to change...
