When playing standard chess the server always sets black pieces with first move. Play set to random assigned but does the same when I specify white pieces. Very annoying to play with black moving first

Do you have a link to some game where you believe a problem has happened?

#

In the rules of chess, white pieces moves first - yes?
The server tries to balance the amount of games where you play white pieces and the games where you play black pieces.
(One place where we always get the same side, is in Puzzle Racer for instance.
A random side is picked, either white or black. And all puzzles in that race will be from that same side.)

tors, it is all the games I play. I play 5-0 blitz casual and if I have white my opponent goes first. If I am assigned white, my opponent moves first.

Do you have a link to such a game?

Well how do I get a link? I can give you my username Wearykahn

Could it be that you have an extension with a custom piece set perhaps, which displays the colors as switched?
In the game I linked, you're playing white pieces and you opended with 1 e4.

Hmm I have changed piece sets but does not help. Not aware of any extensions

#

I go to settings and pick a set is all I do from the list

#

I will try choosing another set of pieces

#

Just changed the pieces to cardinal, started a game, had white pieces but black moved first

#

I am missing a setting somewhere

#

Maybe in my phone idk

In your latest game, https://lichess.org/gyF3f7LH/black, you have the black side - so your opponent moved first.
So it sounds like your Lichess client is displaying the pieces with wrong colors.

You could try different Lichess clients maybe. To see if you can see the colors correctly on any of them.

Examples of different clients,

  1. Firefox on Mobile
  2. Chrome on Mobile
  3. Firefox on Desktop
  4. Chrome on Desktop

And you could try to open Lichess in incognito mode (this usually disables any extensions - so if you have an extension which draws the pieces incorrectly, that could maybe be disabled in incognito).

When / if you find a way to see the correct color of the pieces, you can start thinking of how to get the client which behaves wrongly to behave correctly...

Wow pretty technical. I have never seen this before and been playing a long time. This is iPhone so client not likely chrome. How do i determine that

#

What is incognito mode how to do it

I don't have an iPhone so I don't know how they work.
But the standard browser on Apple products is a browser called Safari.
You could try to open Lichess web site in that browser.

"Incognito mode" is a "private mode" in web browsers, where cookies and site data and other settings are temporarily forgotten in the "incognito mode" window/session.

Ok I did some fiddling in this phone. Turned off VPN, changed some color settings and ran two games seems ok. Thinking the VPN was was or is the culprit. I disabled it and will see. I run the chess and connect from the mobile app
