Hi Lichess,

I have successfully managed to get github.com/lichess-org/external-engine/ working on my local windows machine.

However when I use the analysis board and turn on the external engine, for the opening moves, the cloud suggestions take over and I can't seem to find a way to turn it off.

OK, I'll bite; what would you gain by disabling Cloud suggestions which were generated by many CPU-hours of effort?

The cloud suggestions were made by the Stockfish engine. I want to be able to use the lichess GUI to analyse games using my own engine generating the beginning moves from scratch.

#

I would gain insight into different opening suggestions from any engine of my choosing. Instead I am forced to look at hours of standard stockfish lines

#

I believe that's the whole point of using an external engine

Ah, I suppose that's fair if you're using Fritz or some other engine, you'd want to see its output somewhere.

Yep 🙂

I noticed the same behavior a couple of days ago while working on my external engine client, but didn't look to closely into it. It did switch over to using my local engine eventually, just needed a few refreshes iirc. Possible there might be an issue. When I work on it again, I'll pay closer attention.

Just to add: I also sometimes want to see how the eval changes with depth, even when using the standard web stockfish

you can click the blue "+" next to the depth to override cloud eval for that move (though not super sure it works if you have infinite depth enabled isee)
