A reminder that Linux is not an officially supported platform for Mabinogi.

The matter of the fact was
It was working just fine with no modifications needed to the application.

Linux is a growing market, even more so with steam pushes and the stuff windows is pulling.

Informing them that something changed with this update is good information as if it is in their interest they could look into it.

There have also been statements that progress has been made in both the anti cheat and the launch to allow it to work on Linux via wine/proton.

A regression is a regression.

Also the game it's self works 100% in Linux, it's purely the anti cheat that has issues

It's likely that this is not a bug, and an intended means to prevent players from accessing Mabinogi through unsupported platforms.

You may wish to voice your concerns in our feedback thread regarding official Linux support. The thread can be accessed through following the forwarded message above, which is an official statement from Nexon.

You may also make a support ticket pleading your wishes while forwarding the issues that have occurred in case there is an unforseen/unintended technological issue that requires more step-by-step information, because distributing unauthorized methods to access Mabinogi will be removed from the Discord.
I have to make it very clear that by accessing Mabinogi through Linux at all, you are breaking terms of service.

Okay just change the terms of service?

# vivid dawn Okay just change the terms of service?

theres nothing directly against linux in the TOS.

e. Subject to these Terms, you may access and use the Services running operating systems on which the Services were designed to operate for your personal, non-commercial, entertainment use only

states operating systems

there no use of the terms "microsoft" or "windows"
theres no statement of what operating system to use

the only thing anywhere close is
third-party software that may modify, temporarily or permanently, the code or the user experience of the Services

the game isnt modifyed in anyway when running on linux

the game makes calls to windows apis and wine simply dirrects those to linux calls that will complete the same job, the game its self is not modifyed or edited.

there has been aurgments for
Intercepting, emulating, or redirecting the communication protocols used by Nexon or its designees in any way, including without limitation through protocol emulation, tunneling, packet sniffing, modifying or adding components to software, use of a data mining utility program to intercept, collect, read or mine information generated by the Services, or in any way utilize a technique now known or hereafter developed that would allow for or otherwise make available unauthorized access or use of the Services.

wine and linux does not modify the network stack. if it does anything, it would be the same as exitlag

if there is something in the TOS that directly blocks linux please let me know i have not found anything i have studyed this thing multiable times

#

there is a aurgment for

"software or technology that is not expressly authorized by us that enables cheating, power-leveling, or accomplishing game tasks that cannot be accomplished without the use of such an application, software or technology."

however this refers to cheating tools
the game its self will not run with out wine, it isnt used to complete some extra task on mabi that you cant do on windows

#

anything that can be done in wine in linux can be done in windows just as if not more easly

the only angle nexon would really have against (not being in favour of) support is that NGS is a kernel-level anticheat that needs to be patched to work more effectively on linux

#

by default, KLACs (kernel-level anti-cheats) that aren't made to work with other operating systems just won't work properly on linux because it isn't given root permissions by default, therefore it doesn't have the kernel level access it expects and just runs as an unprivileged user, which can allow things to slip passed the anti-cheat

this is the major reason why a lot of online games have elected to just block wine rather than go through the effort of supporting it but it will end up changing eventually as more people look to alternatives to get away from windows, mac also saw a huge uptick in users in the last year because of the newer macbook models

#

but as far as wine, it doesn't actually do anything that would break ToS

it doesn't modify or add to software, it's simply a library that the system itself uses to translate Windows' API calls to POSIX-compliant calls, and some have compared it to emulation but the name Wine is derived from the acronym: Wine Is Not an Emulator

#

we comply with ToS more than a large percentage of Windows users even because we aren't using client mods NaoWheeze we're just using wine/proton to run nexon's own launcher

Hi guys, since this is the bug-report thread I'm gonna have to ask that discussions regarding the terms of service are moved somewhere else so the threads dont get bumped outta whack. hahayeah

Regarding the terms of service,

Subject to these Terms, you may access and use the Services running operating systems on which the Services were designed to operate[...]
Hope that clears things up.
theres no statement of what operating system to use
The Terms of Service is for Nexon's games as a whole. They do not specify via the terms of service because that information can be found when installing the individual game/launcher.

I think it's not about Linux itself and more about NGS actually scanning memory and finding something it doesn't like.
I've been running Mabi in Arch just fine for a while now with no issues, but NGS got mad at me earlier today when I had OBS open. Maybe because of the screen capture? ferghuskekw
