After Mabnogi Eternity launches can the Pleione engine be open sourced so hobbyists can mess around with it?

i don't know how likely that would be (i'm not knowledgeable enough about behind the scnees stuff), but i think that would be really great for the community 😁

that way if anyone gets that "sigh, it just isn't the same" feeling after launch, their love for the game will be even stronger instead of threatened! i picture a very small group orbiting around the old engine and dropping Eternity (those who would've dropped it anyway), and even more people interested in both. it would make a positive difference! the more people talk about mabi in any of its forms, the more folks will hear about it. and with hobbyists tinkering, that chatter might reach circles it wouldn't reach otherwise.

"when they moved, they made their old engine open source" would be very good PR, imo. if i heard that about a company/devs, i would probably consider the people in charge of that decision to be more trustworthy and caring than average.

there could be a small community of hobbyists and veterans tending to the flame! and all that would probably result in more new people checking out Mabi Eternity 😁

This would be so cool! I really hope they do this.

Honestly, as Pleione is a one off proprietary engine, there might NOT be a clean separation between the game itself and the engine.

This will likely be a lot harder than it sounds.

maybe we will have 2 mabis, like Runescape.

Wasn't Pleione engine originally just intended for cutscene/filming use?

If so; Chances are even if they release the engine as open source, the backcode would probably be soo messy and probably a nightmare to probably do anything with it, without it completely breaking things.
And that's not assuming they could even make the engine an open source without breaking things.

As much as I like the idea, it may not be doable.
