#Using Equipment Switch with Broken Equipment causes crafting to fail

Summary:
If part of your equipment is broken while attempting to use Equipment Switch slots, all crafting recipes will fail, even those shown as 100% Success Rate.

Steps:

  • Break something, like Armor or Weapons, don't take them off
    • If it's a Weapon, move it to your back slot for more consistent results first
  • Attempt to switch to a different equipment set
  • Try to craft something... 💥

Difficulty:
Normal - Just uh... avoid doing this with your expensive crafts bcaGuiltySweat

Occurrence:
Always

Details:
So far I've only managed to trigger this with bare-handed recipes, in other cases I would usually get an error message instead.

Mnaually switching equipment or relogging seems to fix the issue.

Did a little testing to add to this because I suspected it had something to do with the weapon present in the extra equipment slot.

  • When following the above steps, the issue regarding craft-failure occurred if the crafting method (such as Weaving, Magic Craft, Hillwen Engineering) can be activated with objects in your hands (such as a blade, oak wand, or spanner/hammer), and you attempt to craft a bare-handed recipe.
  • The issue also occurred if I contained the correct tool in my hands prior to attempting to change equipment slot to a bare-handed slot after following the above steps, and then attempt to craft an item that requires the tool. (Presumably, I am no longer holding the correct tool.)
  • If the crafting method requires bare hands (has no associated tool) and I recreate the scenario with a broken weapon in my primary slot, and no weapon/tool in my secondary slot OR Extra Equipment slot, an error message occurs Empty both of your hands in order to craft, despite my hands both visually being empty. This occurs even if my Extra Equipment slot has no weapon and my hands are empty, but a broken weapon is present within my Primary Weapon slot.

Note: The broken weapon was located in my Primary Slot (I), and I predominantly kept my Secondary Slot (II) empty and as my active slot.
I have not tested this with the broken weapon in my secondary slot. I have a theory that this has to do with the primary weapon slot and how, after equipment swapping, Mabinogi tends to default back to the primary slot, but fails to do so visually if the equipment swap fails to occur.

This issue did not occur when testing with broken armour, however in this instance, all of my weapon slots involved were empty. This leads me to believe the gear within the Primary Slot is the culprit.

So, avoid having anything in both of your slots when doing expensive crafts. hahayeah

The issue does not occur if the broken weapon is in the Secondary (II) Slot, as the Extra Equipment Slot will change appropriately.

Confirmed more nuanced information and have reported it appropriately. 👍

For the broken armor case I had non-broken weapons in my primary weapon slots when testing it (yesterday?) and rreceived similar results when trying to equipment switch - While in this state attempting to put on the right Equipment for certain crafts after performing the switch attempt, which resulted in getting this error despite having a working kit in my hands (Though I have taken off the armor at some point in the process without trying to switch again):

When I was still trying to figure this out I thought only would relogging would fix it, but every time I did my Primary weapon slots had suddenly moved to the front, which might imply that the server and the client are not sharing the same information after attempting to switch bcaGuiltySweat

Since Equipment Switch involves changing your Primary weapon slot it does kinda make sense but it had me worried I might start doing damage to my character data if the information between server <> client desynced any further so I didn't want to touch on it much more

Here I caught both of those in one recording, like Giegue already said before it's fine if there is no weapons in the primary weapon slot.

My assumption is that the following happens upon using equipment switch:

Server

  1. Game switches to Primary Weapon Slot.
  2. Game checks for broken equipment to confirm if it can switch all the required pieces (Fail occurs here)
  3. Equipment Switch occurs.

Client

  1. Game checks for broken equipment to confirm if it can switch all the required pieces (Fail occurs here)
  2. Game switches to Primary Weapon Slot.
  3. Equipment Switch occurs.

I think that it's failing because Server and Client in the above steps are not doing things in the same order (Steps 1 and 2 are flipped), and it would explain why my weapon is suddenly in my hands after relogging, because the server managed to do Primary Weapon switch step properly but the Client did not.

(Oh and just mute the video, I had music playing, woops)

You can make tools in your 2ndary slots unusable too even if there's nothing wrong with the first

#

If you have a tool in primary that can perform the same function as the secondary then you still start gathering but it will never finish (I manually canceled to end it here)

(Anyway that's probably enough for an entire bug report, sorry Quuku)
