Oh I was able to get this bug a while back too. I'm not sure if its just Moonlight Island or also Homestead too, but I was able to get it (if I remember correctly) by attempting to install a new prop from the window; when I did so I realized I had chosen the wrong one and quickly pressed esc to cancel but my process seemed to go so fast the game thought I was both still placing the prop down and not placing it down.

You can fix it by trying to place a different prop down (if I again remember correctly). You sort of are still "trying to place down" the prop and as long as you restart that process the bug can be fixed.

Though for my issue it was not a Homestead Kit so there's obviously a bit of a difference there.
