I have a few friends that have seen me play Stationeers and really liked the idea of the game but couldn't play it themselves due to injury or disability that causes them to not be able to use certain controls.

For example, one friend has hands that shake a lot. In most cases he is able to use the computer fine but for this game he really struggles when placing down items like cables and pipes because he physically can't hold them still enough to place them accurately.

Having an option to use ghost placement then nudge items 1-5 spaces in each direction using keyboard/button controls before confirming the placement would make the game infinitely more playable for him. It would be slower to place things, yes. But a massive QoL improvement for those with similar issues.

It could also be an optional setting that could be enabled in game settings... as well as maybe having a key to hold when placing to toggle it.

Other accessibility ideas:

  • Better visual feedback when buttons are pressed on printers, especially the T2 ones
  • Optional textual hud warnings centre screen for the suite voice warnings (Low filter, Low oxygen, Low food/water, etc.)
  • Option to increase click target size for buttons in the game (pobably harder on some things than others)
  • Option to change tool activation from "click and hold" to "click to toggle"

I'm sure there are many more ideas that would help open this game up to people with disabilities.

There are many old/former real world engineers out there that have these kinds of injuries or disabilities that would probably love this game if they could play it.

I have PTSD involving gasping and heavy breathing sounds. I had to keep muting audio until Kastuk was kind enough to include a breathing mute option in Creative Freedom mod. I wish there was a vanilla way to do so.

My hands shake because I suffered a stroke that impacted my right side. I like all your suggestions, but I’d like to add one big one:

When performing any action that requires one to hold down the mouse button, have those actions finish in their initial positions even if the mouse moves.

Think of how a pipe can be placed in the wrong spot if the mouse moves when placing it.

I also sometimes have the problem that it stops the placement because I accidentally moved it and I don't even have anything impacting my motor skills afaik. Fully agree on all the proposals for accesibility
