Add "no cross-posting" to #etiquette-guidelines
That would be @sinful pond territory, I can't edit his messages
people who crosspost their question in multiple channels off the bat are also usually not the people who are reading #etiquette-guidelines , and I feel the inclusion would only waste the space there.
#etiquette-guidelines as it currently stands seems to be aimed at regulars, not new people. And the new people can simply be directed to the tag.
What type of cross posting specifically? If I have an open question and it hasn’t been answered in a while, if no one’s talking in the help chat I’ll post a link. The type of cross posting I don’t like is when someone interrupts an ongoing conversation/duplicates the question instead of posting a link so they get multiple answers. Would/does my style of cross posting also break etiquette, or is it just the more annoying ones?
In my experience the only problematic crossposting is when someone comes in and immediately posts the question to several channels at once. Within a minute or so.
(But this is also somewhat rare, admittedly)
honestly
I'd add the cross posting guidance to #etiquette-guidelines, yeah. But with the obvious nuance that sometimes people are directed to repost their question in a more niche / specific-topic channel
Like, someone asks about pointer provenance, sometimes that gets redirected to #dark-arts, and that's okay
I don't think I'm saying anything anybody here doesn't know, but I don't want an addition to the etiquette guidelines to make that less obviously okay
Alright cobrexus, I'll remind you in 7 days about:
this
I'd maybe add that this also goes for cross-server posting of questions without any disclaimer or similar
Alright melothemarten, I'll remind you in 9 hours about:
cross posting on guidelines
@sinful pond follow-up question, did the timer work?
