Java Swing Frame and Panel Backgound

I have a question Regarding adding custom backgrounds to Swing and Panel applications.

When I try to add a background, as its in the form of a JLabel, the background goes over all of the labels i have set. Its really fustrating as I want to have an overall background, and a Background for the horse race.

I just want to know if there are any under arching issues because of it. Im new and have been going over every image and every corner for a solution, but not got one. The code i use is incoperating 3 classes, but the main one is here:

My apologies also for the code being very messy, Ive been mixing solutions and loss track. I plan to fix on the layout when its finished

Nvm, found a work around for it, decided not to use the images but base the colours on what image I was using
