So if anyone wants some quick tips on lighting. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
@sleek laurel

1.) everything is black, unless stated otherwise. No matter what picture your drawing, light determines the value of the colors.

  • if you cannot justify the light reaching the area, it will most likely be black

2.) Light is always straight. What that means, is that light will always move forward in a single direction, unless obescured by another object. So whatever direction your lightsource comes from, all things should be lit from that direction, unless there is something nearby that bounces it.

3.) Light doesn't loose power based on distance traveled. This one sounds like wierd tip, but its something many people overlook. What I mean is Light spreads out, meaning that less photons gets focused on one area, this gives the illusion that an area is dimmer. but in reality its just that, the light is no longer concentrated in one spot.

So if you ever show an object that is dimmer based on distance, the surrounding area around it, should be lighter. its a clever trick that when mastered can help you create some really cool photo realistic effects
