Me reading above, yes realistic lighting is a bich especially on skin because you also have subsurface scattering because skin is also a bit transparent and also like you have more red or whatever blood color the character has that’s closer to skin like around the nose and cheeks and tips of fingers

I only jut learned this thing about atmospheric light and how you are supposed to be lighting like a red object under a blue light or a green object under a pink light

And how light curves around forms and what it looks like going through glass

I’m in a class specifically for that and it’s crazy how difficult of a concept it is to grasp

you learn atmospheric light easiest in 3d. But when trying to replicate in a 2d medium, is crazy hard. It really makes you respect the masters

they make it look so natural

Oh yeah it’s super hard I needed to redo my studies of like 30 cubes and spheres under different light colors over so many times because I kid you not I could not wrap my head around how you actually change the color of the cube towards the color of the light source

the only way I found how to do it, was to start off with the base color of the scene im trying to paint. and let that color naturally fill in the blank spots of the images, that way. When im sourcing the colors, it always includes the base color

it helps a bit, but still not perfect

Also I had no clue if you desaturate a cool color it will get a warmer tone and if you do it with the opposite it gets colder

I think the best tip I ever heard about concept art. Is that your mostly trying to solve a problem, rather than drawing a solution (if that makes sense )

I think your ideas are really neat, and you seem to know how to suit those ideas to your own craft. So im sure you would be a fantastic concept artist XD

I personally see so many talented artist with amazing skills, but there concepts are kinda bleh to me. and some of the most inspiring designs, come from the most basic images. like barely more than 3 shades. its amazing

I found that the hardest part of drawing a character, is replicating that character in different poses and positions while always maintaining that characters looks

sometimes when you draw a character. and change there direction, it can look like a new character from behind lol

for various reasons, I have to draw a similar face in different' angles with ranging intensity. It sometimes feels as if the character looks way different in other poses. Since I don't have a dynamic or easily recognizable design to latch onto.

I also see this problem with real life people. If they don't have distinct features, its sometimes easy to mistake them other people you know lol

for me, this is by far, the hardest part of drawing characters.

When it comes to pokemon, there designs are soo unique and rememberable, that no matter what artist draws them, there also so reconizable. But for more realistic characters, with subtle shifts, I am amazed by anyone who pulls this off. Kudos to them

nah theres a whole process, when an heir turns 50 or so sweeps (100 years our time cuz these guys live for a couple millennia) they can choose to fight her for the crown or become an Emissary.

You dont want to fight her, shes got just about 1000 years under her belt and she never teaches her heirs how to fight (theres laws about killing each other unless in lawful combat or there was treasonous intent but no law about not teaching your heirs to fight)
