#City walls is a conversation between Nico and Clancy

I’m not sure I believe this theory first of all, but it keeps nagging at me. Initially, I interpreted this song in the verses to be Clancy taking to Nico then in the chorus (“I wonder where you are…”), Clancy is talking to TB. However, in the MV, the first chorus hits right before we see Nico in the HDS scene. Now that we know that Nico is a previous “Dark Clancy” from another cycle, we know he’s been outside the walls and likely been a part of the Banditos before. There has always been a question as to why the heck Nico took Clancy out there to begin with. I think City Walls is the answer.

Now, I think the chorus could actually be Nico talking to Clancy throughout the cycle. He wanted Clancy to help him find his way back out of the darkness, “but now the night has fallen, abandoned by the sun”. We also get the line in the verse (Clancy to Nico), “I’m wondering what you thought would happen, who you thought I would be. Was this a side-swipe, or did you picture this in a dream?” This sounds like Nico was almost leading him in some way (I.e., by introducing him to Trench beyond the city walls), and Clancy knew it. Now he’s like, is this what you expected or did you think we were going to be pals? It’s almost as if there is a part of Nico that deep down still wants to get out there, but he’s too trapped in the darkness to do it. Maybe Nico even knew this was coming and this was the only way for him to move on. Then, the chorus is basically Nico saying “Clancy, where you at, come take me out so I can escape these walls”.

Anyone else have this interpretation?

My interpretation was that the verses were to Nico and the chorus to torchbearer

Interesting. It's been bothering me who's talking to whom in the chorus ever since City Walls came out. It just feels weird for Tyler to be switching up who he's addressing. It also feels weird for Tyler to say he wanted Nico to show him the way through the walls. I'm not sure I agree with your interpretation, but it being Nico responding would make more sense to me than Tyler switching between talking to Nico and TB.
