Hey everyone!
Over the last 4 days I’ve been working on something a bit crazy — a 58-minute video essay exploring the idea that Clancy and the upcoming Breach aren’t really about the lore of Dema, but about Tyler’s burnout with the lore itself.
The video does NOT contain any spoilers as I have not gone to any listening parties, and I haven't listened to the L word. Everything I mention here is stuff that I analyzed based off the snippets that the band shared for the songs + the song titles + the track lengths.
Me and 5 friends managed to write a 4,800 word script, shoot at 9 different locations in one day and edit all this all between the 6th and 10th of September. In this theory I go over
- The decline of the narrative since Scaled and Icy
- How Clancy works as a covert exploration of burnout - specifically in regards to Trench and the Dema narrative
- Why I think Breach will be a more overt reflection of it, with a more linear story on Tyler moving past it.
It is a bit rough at times since, as I said, 4 days ago I didn't even know I'd be making this video - and I had to get it out on time before the release of Breach. There also may be some slight errors in the script since it was done mostly in one sitting, even if I and my friends went over it a couple times.
If you do end up watching this, please do NOT write spoilers about how (in)correct my theory may be.
To find the video on YouTube, search "Breach and Clancy are about BURNOUT" and you should find it.
P.S. I understand why the limitation on the links is present, but we've been working day and night to share this video essay before Breach comes out and sharing this afterwards would be pointless. If there is any way a moderator can link it here for me, I'd seriously appreciate it 🙂
Curious to hear what you all think - I haven't seen anyone tackling Clancy and making a prediction for Breach from this angle.
