Long read here. The TLDR is Carl Jung proposed that when we tell stories they are often representative of our own psychology and that something like a standard heros journey is identical to the process of finding the self and overcoming our own insecurities/doubts/fears is part of the process. In the lore, our dragon is the bishops, and we are on the stage now where we have had the small triumph and must go back to face our orgins (aka dema).
