want to get my first instrument as a guitar and I want to be able to play the guitar and sing over it for artist's music such as Keshi laufey beabadoobee, vthe neighborhood, Daniel Caesar, among others. I did my research and what I was seeing is that I should get a steel-string acoustic guitar as it is what fits my needs more. But my friend is saying that I should get an electric guitar because I'll be able to play a wider range of music and it'll also be able to do everything that acoustic can do anyways. Please help

It entirely depends on your budget and situation
If this is like the start of your music career and you are just getting to learn guitar, and if the budget is small, I recommend electric (until you can get the steel-string acoustic later)
Otherwise, if you have the budget and time, I’d go with the steel-string acoustic

#

Just because electric gives more opportunities, until you can expand your collection

So for my use-case you'd say steel acoustic is better?

#

Can you expand a little more as to why

#

If you dont mind

electric has the capability to sound different with pedals. its also a bit more to setup/use so keep that in mind. I would recc you get a yamaha acoustic for a couple hundred bucks and learn basic chords, strumming patterns, and practice tab music. lots of fun little songs to learn

Could you expand more as to why you recommend i get the acoustic

Works on finger strength mainly

#

Also helps you get used to stretching for some chords as well, so that you get used to the dexterity needed

I JUST REMEMBERED THIS

Okay, so electric has the range, but because you have all the time and budget for another later, the steel is something you can use on songs you already know, and if you like those songs, you can style them with the guitar sound
If that makes sense, it’s basically starting out

#

You get the style you are going for, and then later you can expand it
