#How do people start creating music?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
trust me music theory is worth learning it can really help in making a melody and accompaniments I swear !!!!!
People don't always start with a beat, ideas can come from anywhere, a lot of people also start with lyrics or a melody and then build a beat/backtrack off of that, I usually prefer to do it that way. And honestly I disagree that learning music theory isnt completely necessary if you dont even know how to play an instrument or make a beat digitally, it can help once you know those things though. I'd recommend you to just start messing around in a free daw such as bandlab if you wanna start making music. If you want I could also help you out if you want since I've been doing this for years!!
Any ideas on how/where to start learning?
Thank you for the help ^^ Thanks for the offer, too, but I don’t know when I’ll start looking into this all so it’s alright!!

It will forever haunt me that in this video I misremembered one bit of terminology - the chord voicings begin with "root position" before moving onto "first inversion" and so on. But let this be a lesson about something bigger, ...
if I'm going to be honest I take it as a class and have 2 different music teachers teaching me theory at the same time but I know it's not an option for everyone
I would say start off with the basic scales, major, minor, semitones, keys
