hi! i’m rayn and i’m an aspiring singer. i truly enjoy singing; however, as i have self-awareness, i realize i do not possess the talent sometimes required. (can’t do riffs, cant belt, head voice barely goes to E6, not proper technique, nonconsistent vibrato, can’t unlock whistle register, etc.) how do you guys get over that feeling that you’re not good enough to be a singer? i will never stop trying to improve / im not ever just going to give up, but i do wonder what helps you all when feeling this way too??

you may exploit the good things you got in your voice

#

like, for example, this is a real one, i don't know how to do head voice, but i have a good register, so, i exploit that part

#

you know what i mean?

so back when i went to an arts school for high school, i used to be envious of this one guy who is a tenor and has a great upper range compared to myself being a tenor 2 because my voice had matured due to puberty. once i got to college its like it clicked to me that i needed to stop comparing myself to others because everyone has their own journey with music, mine just happened to have more obstacles than others. when i spent less time comparing myself to him, i began spending more time on the piano doing vocal warm ups for extended periods of time so i could get to know my mature voice better. after a few years of working on my voice figuring out where the right spots are to singing comfortably, my vocal range improved, i began to sing more healthier instead of forcing my voice which strained it more than i needed it to. now im able to sing what used to be my falsetto range in a mixed voice which sounds stronger. dont compare yourself to others musical journey, youll get there in your pace. continue to focus on developing your voice! your voice doesnt fully mature until your 30s so theres always room to grow! techniques like riffs are skills which means you have the ability to learn them through practice. Belting means you use your diaphragm to sing, head voice means to sing from the head which in a way means not using your diaphragm to sing. vibrato comes with practice too!

TLDR: whenever i feel like giving up, i go watch some musical/opera or i listen to artists that inspire me, and that helps raise my morale up because it make me want to get to where they are at for myself.
