How many people can do bass through soprano range?

I was talking to my choir teacher the other day about my range, and he jokingly called me a freak of nature for being able to sing all ranges easily, and only having to go into my headvoice for higher soprano. That got me wondering how common it is to be able to do that, either as a freshman in high school or just in general.

Very common. I'ts called meso-soprano.
