hi! im self-taught on everything music-related for funsies. i used to play uke/guitar and sing along for hours everyday for 1-1.5yrs consistently but stopped for quite some time. now i am slowly getting back into music playing for fun again and my friends started a band and they want me to be their singer. i am not confident in my singing at all and im definitely not at a level where i can perform. i basically just want any tips on things i can do to improve. i think i have decent pitch and can stay on tune and on beat well. i think breath support is one thing but its also just in general anything that i can work on to improve! thanks :)

as far as singing, i would say try to do your own thing and don’t try to copy another person’s singing style. make it your own, and you’ll be able to grow more and be more unique.
as far as confidence, it’s okay to be a little nervous. the best advice i can give is when your band books their first gig, anyone that shows up would be more disappointed if you get stage fright and don’t sing than they would if you make an effort but it’s not the best they’ve heard. you’re an amateur, so they should have low standards as far as criticism
