So basically I have a friend who was asked by his social club professor to write lyrics of a chorus. And he didn't give him any tips or how to do it. And my friend doesn't have any knowledge of how to do it. So he came up with some lyrics and asked me to sing it. So I asked him if he has the melody or knows what he wants and he said yes but he showed me by singing out the melody. So I told him that is not how it works and if he has a melody recorded. He said he has but it's the same thing which is his voice so he said I will show you a similar vibe of a song and I sang to the lyrics he showed me. To which he was not satisfied with. So I told him that he has to come up with a way to describe the melody to me which I told him he can do so by downloading a chord progression app or a keyboard app. After that I explained him how writing song works and he got so defensive about me telling him what he did with his mouth is not a melody. So am I wrong for telling him I can't just sing the lyrics without knowing the melody?
