#How does one address a clearly bad singer?

Is this place about doing well or having fun? I'd say if someone wants to improve, they'll pay attention to improving. If someone want to have fun even if they aren't singing well for others' standards, they'll focus on having fun.
I say this without having this experience, though. So take it with a grain of salt.
ld say someone has to say it if lm singing bad l wouldn't want people to tell me " oh that was good" then go perform somewhere and get laughed at
I’m new here so idk what the etiquette generally is or if ppl are usually expecting advice, but my general rule of thumb is if ppl aren’t actively seeking advice then you should either not give it or like you said be gentle and kind of pad the constructive criticism with smth positive.
In my mind, this server IS called karaoke lounge and generally ppl who go to karaoke irl aren’t trying to feel like they’re auditioning for the voice or whatever. I imagine if i went karaoke-ing w friends and one of them went and started telling me all the things i was doing wrong i’d think tf is up w this mf, lemme have my fun.
It takes a certain amount of courage to even come and try and sing here, and nobody comes here for the purpose of being critiqued/judged. If they ask, its a different situation.
Just.. accept that they tried and move on and say nothing? Being bad is the first step in getting to be good.
I teach voice. Everyone, including myself has stuff to improve on. When I come here to sing it is to have fun and maybe find a student.. but not to have my ears open for flaws.
this is the response, i think.
I think i feel bad for them because I would want someone to tell me if I were doing something wrong, my teacher baked into me that "only perfect practice makes perfect"
but it also makes sense, i the context of the server, that most people are just coming here to have fun.
😌🤙
No amount of preparation fully survives an encounter with a live audience 🙂 You always forget something.
That is why habit building is so important (and why they are so harmful if they are the wrong habits)
thats generally what my teacher was trying to describe i think, just making sure that you're practicing the correct things, rather than building a bad habit.
Tell them they are dogwater and need to improve
