Alright I need big help here.
I'm basically trying to make a movie set in a dark and foggy cemetary/graveyard. Sounds simple right? Well. Here's the thing. In my country most graveyards are privately owned and do not even look anything like i imagine (not to mention how unethical it would be to make a movie over resting places)

So here's the question. How can I recreate a set like that indoors as an independent student Filmmaker with a low budget and as realistic as possible?

If you have a large TV, you could shoot close ups using your TV as backdrop

#

I have done quite some XR results using a TV as backdrop, it really works quite intuitively. Downside is that you can't do a lot of movement.

I'm personally never a fan of indie film green screen for background replacement since there's a million things that will look off about it,
But for a 0.5s wide it can be done.

#

A full short film set in one however is going to be an enormous challenge

#

My suggestion is to make fake headstones and film it in a public area like a grassy park
For example

#

I know a few public areas in places I used to live that would look like a graveyard with added headstones.

Find something near you that could work

#

If you know 3D and work with mostly static camera/small movement, you could even work with tracking markers on the ground to place headstones.
RISKS:

  • Lighting needs to be exactly measured on the points to be tracked
  • You need to know how to exactly apply this before you start filming
  • You need to know how to blend CG/images with real footage
#

Final option is to go meta and to shoot it in a black/white void studio

#

And build a headstone or two out of foam

#

The final option is to get chummy with a private owner of a graveyard.
