Follows the titular superhero as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and a brighter tomorrow in a world that views kindness as old-fashioned.
But still optimistic š¤š¾

Thursday niiight
U seeing it then?
it went up homie dw
Yeeee
Imagine if the audience score is also massive, on IMDb, RT even with all the bs review bombing n shit thatās been happening to loads of divisive movies.
hopefully box office is huge too
Iāve already seen people furious about this movie. Funny enough it made the news from a certain ||news organization that claimed Superman cape had ms13 symbol on it⦠and also weāre trying to say the movie was bad for it being a movie that champions immigrants. ||
#GUNNDONTSWITCH
Guys I have to say this is the hardest fucking review I have ever made. This is my honest opinion as someone who was moderately excited for the movie. No personal bias and I am not a snyder cultist. Just honest feelings.

½ review of Superman on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/agsJCz
David Corenswet is a great Superman. He is here to support this world like one of the pillars of the DC universe. This movie establishes Supermans core moral values and how they are perceived by the world. While the setting of this movie is on a quoted "retro-futuristic" period, the main conflict of the movie is very much inspired by the modern ...

Im so excited
I feel like ima love this film
I havent not loved a Gunn CBM ive seen so
#TheGunnIsLoose
Guys I want this to soar in Sky's.
Do people forget that Supermanā¦. Is not even from earth š¤¦š¾āāļø
Also whom created Superman
This whole discourse is all dumb as fuck
Iām looking forward to the political commentary in the movie.
Itās fascinating how some overlook who created Superman and the symbolism behind him.
Def possible that many beloved older films would struggle if released in 2025 due to todayās heightened sensitivities.
itās wild how treating people with basic decency and respect is now āwokeā.
āWe donāt go to the movie theatre to be lectured, or have film makers political ideology onto usāā¦ š¤¦š¾āāļø
some of the most well received films are political⦠shoot even the biggest box office movies have some form of political messaging in them when not just viewed at a surface level.
Also another update we are at 4.02/5 average
Yo itās audience score on RT https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/superman_2025

So yeah
People loving it
My friend who saw it last night gave it a 5/5
And our tastes often align
Iām jealous ur friend got to see so early
Yeah, they saw it in the amazon prime early access
Add || spoilers ||
Id ask you to wait till thursday maybe
Since most will see it then
Or spoiler bar
Guys glike do i add spoilers or the spoiler tag
Donāt the spoiler bar thingys work
don't?
The more i think about this film after my first review, i get more excited for the dcu. It took a while to process what i witnessed
||Guys that sequence when superman is saving an alien baby fighting those lex bots is the most chaotic superman action sequences I've scene. The layers of fear for if the baby will survive, and the wackiness of the pocket dimension is surreal comic film making
also will we get a resolution to the message from the El family?||
|| the spinning laser move is fucking CRAAAAZY ||
I didn't watch any material further than trailer 1 so Idk what is a spoiler technically.
|| anyone else notice the top gun esque intro||
This isn't a spoiler: the end credit scenes are not important at all, but the first one is a good shot.
keep an eye ||at the hall||
||so which peacemaker was that?||
||Looking back i expected a conversation between rick flag and superman as it was kind of hinted at by lex in the pocket dimension.||
IGN can exclusively reveal an action scene from director James Gunnās Superman. The clip is introduced by Superman star David Corenswet.
In the scene, the villainous Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) directs his staff in programming The Hammer of Boravia's fight moves against the Man of Steel as they brawl over the skies of Metropolis.
Superman op...
Holy fuck the camera
It's so dynamic
Me when the camera does a full 180 as superman is getting spun like cake batter
GoG 3 with Adam was def practice
The camera in GOTG 3 was nuts
Oh man⦠now people, YouTubers are claiming that critics were payed off to give positive reviews. š¤¦š¾āāļø
............
This is...pathetic
Lmao
Itās wild to me⦠youād think if this was the case, with alllllll the money DC and Marvel-Disney has weād be seeing avg critic scores on RT and Metacrtic for most projects well above 70
Lol yeah
Are these like...those crappy thumbnail grifter type people saying this shit?
It's crazy that some people think that studios are gonna spend extra money on critics to write them goof reviews which is just nonsensical and there are hundreds of critics as well..
Some people wanna hate this movie so bad (esp Snyder cultists) that they will come up with any reason to say this movie actually isn't good and people shouldn't like it
the humor bits I wasn't fond of, I like my comic books serious with a bit of humor, I did think it had a good last half
overall it is a fun movie though
williams theme or not?
Will watch this tomorrow.
Guys if this is a spoilers forum why are people coming here without watching the movie
I don't like the use of the typical James Gunn random background song to end the movie. Would've preferred if it was solely the Superman theme
Makes the exit of the film feel more emotional
I honestly don't understand the point of putting out this clip it's ruining so much of the action.
||The hammer of boravia plot is exactly what you expect||
I don't get why they called this character ultraman. Because that's a different character.
Oh I was smiling so widely throughout so much of that
Suppose itās the same concept of pouring your milk in the bowl before or after you pour in the cereal
After, before is criminal offense
after as well but to each their own
Oh we have a channel here
Alright so Ultraman sucked
Lex was not evil enough to be threatening and needed more fear mongering
Score kinda underwhelming
Lotta bits were good but a couple of them didnāt land
These are the negatives I have and itās rounding up to a 4/5
@visual adder
Yeah I liked the battle between them but his story line was too predictable.
And its not ultraman
Unless the fact that he arrived on a different universe after getting sucked into the black hole
But still it's more bizarro
Yeah but that doesn't matter they call him Ultraman
Bizarro is a different concept
Bizarro has a kryptonian heart. This one doesn't
The characters supposed to be an evil version of Superman from an alternate earth. They did the reverse flash thing, where they made Barry the reverse flash, which I hated.
It's not an alternate thing
It is quite literally explained that Lex cloned Superman
By using a strand of hair during one of his battles
Its supposed to be is what I'm saying
What do you mean supposed to be when they're two different characters
They're similar characters with a similar purpose but Bizarro comics is a lot more distinct then Ultraman is in this film
Regardless they call him Ultraman
Yea and I don't like that creative choice
You can dislike the creative choice but that doesn't make the character less Ultraman
It can
No lol
Yes lol
This one isn't an alternative universe and is literally a clone
It's shown in the film
Directly explained in your face
Neither does he have a kryptonian heart
which is exclusive to Bizarro
He's supposed to.
According to who
Me and the comics
lmao so nobody
understood
If I hear from James Gunn it was supposed to be Bizarro I'll believe it but until then the film quite literally calls him Ultraman
Ok you're weird
Sure m8
I'd trust the creative on the film what the intended choice for this character was
Rather then you
Regardless Ultraman wasn't good
I feel like they underplayed government interference to, hopefully exploring it in other movies
what if we renamed superman to superguy
yeah I had issues with lex myself
i liked the round table scene where lex was walking around them all confident influencing their thoughts with a smirk.
this is lex
there's a pacing issue. like the moment where he talks with his dad its. they needed some of the music
HOW IS IT BOYS?

Audience score is 96
Metacrtic, critic score decreased from 72 to 70
IMDb doesnāt have the stars listed yet.
I'll see for myself IG.
True, score wise it seems more āwell receivedā then a large chunk of marvel movies in phase 5
itāll be fun to see how it does box office wise
I see it this evening
How do you think it'll do?
I got max 700
Maybe 600 closing
Weekend should do 100
Minium 500 closing
Even if it does not do crazy numbers on the weekend, I think it'll at least get word of mouth and it'll sway some fence sitters
If the word of mouth is good. but so far that may not be as strong as it needs to be if people are saying it's a "fun time" / mid.
sorry i never saw you @ me until now
Its gonna be 600 minimum i think, maybe if the run is good, can touch 800
Anyway, where are u come from guys? And why u can see it early? I'm Indonesian, always 2 days earlier than global.
hmmm,
There budget is 225 million and there is a lot of eyes on the film, Iād assume from shareholders and other people high up at WB to see if Gunns creative vision can generate positive revenue.
Letās look at gunns movies, and Superman movies (post 2000) and consider the multiplier between box office and budget.
Gunn has the following movies and multipliers based on budget and box office. *I will omit slither, super from consideration as these are extremely small budget and more āindieā.
I will also not include justice league as that is āavengers ā like movie not largely Superman focused. *
Bare in mind this isnāt super accurate estimate but more just trying to get a rough ball park, sample size of films is super small so take with grain of salt
Multiplier will be defined as,
Total box office = multiplier x budget.
(To calculate these just search up box office and budget)
Multipliers for Gunn:
GoG had a 4.5x
GoG2 had a 4.3x
SS had a 0.9x (covid )
GoG3 had a 3.4x
Superman IP post 2000:
Superman returns 1.92
Man of steel 2.97
BvS 3.49
Guns avg multiplier is 3.3x,
Superman is avg 2.8x
The standard deviation(range about avg):
Gunn: 1.67
Superman post 2000: 0.80
Coeff Variation (this tells us fluctuation):
Gunn 51%
Superman post 2000 29%
So if we go with
Gunn
3.3x (+/-) 1.67x
Superman
2.8x (+/-) 0.8x
If we take out SS (since it occurred during covid, straight to hbo release):
gunn:
avg multiplier - 4.09x
Standard deviation - 0.62x
Coeff variation - 15%
so 4.09x (+-) 0.62xā¦
So:
budget x avg multiplier
Gun + SS:
742 mill
Gun - SS:
920 mill
Modern Supermans:
628 mill
SD +- 1 (68% of outcomes)
Gun + SS:
367 millā 1.12 bill
Gun - SS:
781 mill ā 1.06 bill
Modern Supermans:
448 mill ā 808 mill
**SD +-2 (95% of outcomes) **
Gun + SS:
*0ā 1.49 bill (clipped)
Gun - SS:
641 mill ā 1.2 bill
Modern Supermans:
268 mill ā 988 mill
So id think that
781 mill ā 1.06 bill
makes sense if flawless.
Could def see 740 mill or less if post covid impact, superhero fatigue, and anti woke marketing campaign against film is successful.
Is 250 a lot?
My bad Iād meant to say 225
the higher the budget the more money itās gotta make to get a profit, I think ppl use a 1.5-1.7x as break even point, and 2.5x for being moderate āsuccessfulā
So, for Superman 2025:
budget: 225 mill
break even: 337.5 mill
āsuccessā : 562.5 mill.
But is the budget constrained due to the state of DC rn?
Well ofc if 225 is the production budget, the overall break even point will be higher.
https://youtu.be/Y0jpxXiUjO0?si=eZrkVnwQOtOWeB6N the goat has spoken
Just got done with the movie.
It was solid, Iāll post me review later after thinking a little more. But this is a nice base for new dcu.
Some brief thoughts, I thought action was nice, cgi looked cool instead of antman 3 slop. Fight choreography seriously is great.
Characters seem to embody what I liked about them from smallville and Superman and Louis, only issue is a 2h movie doesnāt give enough time for the character development (tbh I donāt think there was any? ) Superman and Louis and Smallville are both series which give time for character to have clear character arcs and develop through it . But for the time it does have it makes use of them well. Tho some characters seem kinda 1D though that isnāt to gunns fault, itās clear heās going for a more comic booky type adaption that is Modern.
Also liked the political commentary, lol imagine MaF now bans mentioning of Boravia and Jarhanpur
the commentary in the movie is so on the nose Iād think anyone not familiar with what it represents prob donāt watch or read world news.
What'd I think of the el family
Supermanās parents? ||Iām not sure where gun is going with it. But Iām looking forward to it.
Idk if I buy that the tape wasnāt doctored⦠I mean shit itās Lex Luther we are dealing with. And Lex is comically over the top evil in this movie. Him making up shit about Superman having a harem would be something this version of Lex would do, he feels that petty.
Also I donāt recall Clark hearing the second part of the tape when it wasnāt dubbed so itās possible the second part of tape was falsely dubbed over by Lex and his crew. āMr Terrific says that others have looked at the tape and it couldnāt have been doctored based on him trusting those people but again⦠the best way to confirm it would be to have Clark listen to the tape un-dubbed.||
I think cause Clark isnāt contesting the first half, itās not doctored
Just remembered one thing I loved with this film, ||the āteasersā for other dcu movies are in the movie rather than post credit scenes||, ie ||supergirl|| ||Peacemaker s2||
Apparently w/ ||supergirl movie weāll find out why sheās a ādrunkā n shit|| and then there is ||the small peacemaker cameo š§š¾āš³||
movie is now at 69 critic on metacritic and 82 critic on RT. Itās audience score is a positive, though I have a feeling this movie is gonna have a big hate/switch up campaign on it.
In the theater ready to watch!
Im prob gonna see it one more time.
#WillTheGunnMiss?
Lots of Supes fans in the theater with me
Looks like this is gonna be a crowd
Oh nice, I watched mine earlier in the day, I bet itād be sick to see it with people that are Superman fans, as I left theatre it seemed like more Superman man fans were coming in people where repping hella merch.
Will be seated as soon as I get my drink
the gunn did NOT JAM
that movie was fire
i have a loooooooot of thoughts
my instinct rating is 8/10
very very good movie with a few minor issues
mainly just some small pacing issues in the first act, but after the kaiju battle it finds its footing and is fine
i didnt find it too overcrowded or anything
i love how a major plot point of the movie is that women are obsessed with jimmy olsen lol
i frickin LOVE the twist of clark's parents sending him to earth to rule
it adds a super cool new element that i truly did not expect
of superman basically fully embracing his human side
i will say, i wish they gave this superman his own theme
Besides Modok, what was wrong with antman 3? Modok?
Bad looking cgi slop everywhere, the overuse of the volume, the movies cgi looked bad to me. For me when you compare it to the cgi from earlier MCU movies it just donāt look right. Itās jarring
you can tell they are just acting in front of the volume in certain scenes it took me out
i think this is about as good a start to the dcu as you could ask for
it had a lot of things it needed to do and i would say it did them well
Yes I found that gag to be funny as well
i mean...can we access the quantumverse? no, so inevitably, wether you see it or not, you know they using it.
It reminds me kinda of smallville
i'm sure we were all so veeery surprised when gasp ultra man is a superman clone
i know james gunn has said smallville was a huge influence on this movie
Iām b real I had no idea ultra man was Superman clone
oh i knew
I was shocked, it was cool.
You think heās gonna be bizzaro?
i thought ultraman was supposed to be a variant.
probably not, since he's dead
I just figured ultraman was supposed to be a black noir meme
i do like how because he was stupid he relied on lex telling him exactly what to do in order to beat superman
I liked the talk off at the end ts was sick.
krypto throwing lex around like the hulk with loki lol, that was funny
this really truly was a COMIC BOOK movie
Lois was a huge standout for me
lois was great
i love how the movie started with some brief witty exposition, the same way a comic book will often start with a few text boxes to catch the reader up to speed
they didnāt make her annoying like she can be in smallville sometimes, she also is more conventionally attractive then Superman and Louis version but also feels very similar to that version in terms of writing. Where they donāt just write her to be a damsel 24/7 like smallville .
there were a bunch of super small details i loved and noted, that im now blanking on
the only one i can remember rn is lex having a photo of mr handsome (his alien henchman) on his desk
i found that very amusing
lex having literal monkeys on keyboards spamming superman hate was very funny
This felt like such a funny jab at certain fellows online who just keyboard spam hate
I loved it
the random slo mo shot of lex's mug breaking
and then the moment his goons pick it all up for him he just slyly knocks it over again like a cat lol
another thing i liked was how superman and lois were so casual about a giant cosmic being attacking metropolis
realistically it would probably be a pretty common occurrence at this point
peacemaker cameo was fun, i think that got the most laughs out of my theater
and im obviously not surprised we saw supergirl
S2 gonna be hype
Odd Iām surprised IMDb hasnāt dropped its ratings yet
Aināt they usually up by now?
definitely super excited for that!
US
Oh my....
God
You're like a human computer!
That's bars!
Not much
Ant-man 3 isn't that bad
Better than Eternals, Black Widow, Thor 4, and The Marvels
my guess has been in the 700m-900m range based in projections and charts of comparable movies
Me after Superman
I cant think of many problems I had really
Loved that whole film
That was a fucking epic
Omg i love her already
for me it was really just a few jarring scene changes but literally nothing that felt like it hurt the movie
i would have liked maybe 3-5 total minutes of like transition scenes
but that is a super small nitpick
the whole thing was just consistently very solid
Ah
I didnt get any jarring feelings on my end tbh
Im so happy
Gunn cooked yet again
he fr cooked
@manic remnant
KARAMMAAA
I NEED THE NUMBBBERR
I DONT RATE TILL THE NEXT CALENDER DAY NOW AAAA
Gimme like 3 hours
||you can expect a 4.5 or 5 tho||
I really wanna do a ||Milly|| pfp but its way too soon lol
Gonna wait a few weeks
Or smth
||she was gorgeous||
Hell yeah, ||love her already||
||I'm a huge fan of her. I stopped watching season 1 of the GOT show because they aged up the character and the "adult" actress wasn't as good!||
anyways, I do think Ultraman was probably Bizarro but they overdubbed him as Ultraman
meaning towards release
||what a spectacular movie superman is||
hell yes
i know what's winning best vfx now...
Id advise it for.now because some people who havent seen it still poke in
At least let the opening weekend end
I think
What did everyone think of Jonathan and Martha here?
I think they are the most important characters to nail
It is necessary to believe that the most powerful man on the planet was raised right
The question of āwhy does Superman choose to be goodā is answered in their performance
||and that final scene where Clark is looking at video footage!!!!!!!||
SO ADORABLE!!!!!!! I smiled so wide bc that is exactly why Superman is Superman
Itās what differentiates him from Homelander, brightburn, sentry, Ikaris, and Omni man
They werenāt raised by the Kents
I think Superman is a good argument for nurture vs nature
WHAT A FULL CIRCLE MOMENT, THIS MADE ME SMILE
Honestly thatās my favorite scene
Or the scene where ||lois and clark argue in the apartment||
Or the scene where Superman ||saves a dog and squirrel ||
my favorite scene is when krypto ||beats lex to a pulp, SO FUNNY, SO AMAZING, AND SO WELL-DESERVED||
Or the scene where Superman ||is so mindful of metamorphoās baby while literally getting attacked||
I need to rewatch so bad
ima be honest almost +80-90% of the movie idk its a lot count but many times in this movie i was just smiling
Yes !!!!
||AND RIGHT BEFORE THAT SCENE WHEN SUPERMAN TELLS LEX THAT HE'S AS FLAWED A BEING AS ANY HUMAN BEING BUT HE KEEPS BEING GOOD-HEARTED DESPITE THAT IS SPECTACULAR!!!!!! CHEF'S KISS||
I was just ecstatic to finally have a Superman who didnāt feel burdened by the fact he needed to help people lol
Like a Superman who doesnāt walk around begrudgingly?? Hell yeah!!!
i was thrilled, laughing with the movie when it wanted me to laugh, it was exciting, this is a new path forward for DC and i adore it. it's not marvel at all but much better.
HE'S SO GOOD-HEARTED AT LAST!!!!! NO MORE GRITTY SNYDERVERSE STUFF IN SIGHT, THANK GOD
Iām going to be able to digest the Snyder stuff easier now knowing itās not mainline Superman
Yeah im exceptionally happy with this film
Viewing him as an elseworldās Superman makes it a lot more acceptable
Viewing Henry**
i view it as non-canon. elseworlds' supermen are superman and lois superman, and red son superman
Superman is so unapologetically pure and corny here
and it never felt fake or schmaltzy or emotionally manipulative. it was all so genuine.
spielberg and marvel could never
I actually wouldāve loved a prime Spielberg to tackle Superman in the 90s
Cast Brendan Fraser as Superman
A character like Superman is honestly right up his alley
Itās a shame it never happened
Lots of spielbergās sensibilities are in line with the spirit of the character
||I also love the scene where lex and and vasil ghurkos are interrogating superman in what could be viewed as the phantom zone prison and lex kills the innocent vendor, Malik Ali/Mali because that's when i knew that this movie was far and away better than anything marvel could churn out because my god WAS THAT SCENE SO DELICIOUSLY DARK AND DISTURBING AND CHILLING AND HEART-POUNDING, THAT'S WHEN I KNEW THIS MOVIE WAS SOMETHING SPECIAL AND WOULD MAKE A BIG SPLASH IN MY HEART||
spielberg always read as emotionally manipulative to me. superman 2025 is the real deal
Heās an earnest storyteller who combines heart and spectacle without having to sacrifice either
i suppose but i prefer this movie's approach a lot better
This is a fake picture but imagine???
I liked gunns take on them, they feel new, and having both of them alive at this point is also cool.
he literally has a U on his chest
this would've been excellent back in the 90s
||I didn't catch that, I know early word was that it was Bizarro||
I also love that theyāre alive. Superman not being born out of tragedy is very important imo
it was always just a superman clone
I think the mods wanted us to censor spoilers
Yeah that scene was actually pretty sad, the dudes dialogue before he takes one to the dome was depresso.
why
this is a spoiler channel
Thatās what they said man idk š
lol basically bc some people might accidentally pop in
They just recommended adding spoiler tags is all.
peacemaker and supergirl both make cameos, ultra man is a superman clone
it was so saddening and yet that's when I knew that this was a DC film because marvel could never
I just spoiler marked mine
yes, yes, triple yes
I think itās more a courtesy thing not a hard rule tho
there were lots of small children in my theater and throughout the movie more and more of them were ushered out of the theater by their parents š
The vendor said he had no one šŖ¼ššŖ¼
??
Why
Lol
people are so used to marvel pg-13, which is just pg but they say shit a couple times
his name is Malik Ali. Mali. remember it.
first time was when clark and lois made out, and then again when lex executed that guy
They had ||a toy of Lex Luthor in his war suit|| so I was expecting him to show up like that
I liked the throwbacks to superman 78 like Otis
Fr? Iām surprised aside from the one death of the vendor this movie isnāt super violent .
Weird
Marvel has kissing and violence too lol
happened at my screening too although there was a couple with a baby in the back row at my screening and they stayed during the entire film. made the scenes with metamorpho's son Joey all the more poignant imo
To use the example
exactly.
Who the hell takes their kids out of a theater for that
parents are sensitive i guess
ššš
Oh yeah lol, Jessica Jones, Eternals, DareDevil Born again, punisher, Luke cage
guess they dont want their five year old kids seeing a man be executed for some reason....
cant even show executions to children anymore
the way it's bloodless and filmed from afar in superman 2025 tho meanwhile marvel has it often done in closeup albeit bloodless too
because woke
I guess audiences arenāt ready for this
I liked it brought the action and epic scale as well as the smaller moments
will always love how Sara Sampaio (the actress who plays Eve Teschmacher in superman 2025) liked my tweet praising superman 2025 as seen here
Book it
LMAOOOOO absolutely not
you wanna bet money on it?
i'll make a bet with you and i promise i will hold my end of the deal
Hell no!!!
Hold on who do you think will be cast as Batman
Alan Richenson has the build and charisma
literally anyone other than glen powell lol
Oh hell no
he absolutely does, but i see him more as aquaman
Alan is a meathead lol
hot take i love the way the justice gang is depicted in superman 2025 so much that we don't need batman and wonder woman
^^^ see look at his build fam @primal locust
Yeah this is certainly a hot take
I think acting is more important than build
And Alan doesnāt have the chops imo
Heād be a great Shazam though
guy gardner immediately switching his opinion on metamorpho because he likes the name justice gang was so funny
Also glen powell is not who I want as Batman btw
like, i kinda love guy gardner green lantern, hawkgirl, and mr. terrific already. i don't see why we need to include batman and wonder woman. they'd seem superfluous.
But he is Warner bros safest bet
THAT WAS ANOTHER NOTE I HAD
if we're forced to have a batman, it should be charlie clapham
His acting in reacher is fine
I think of the candidates, heās the most likely to be cast
mr terrific getting the comic accurate white eyes when like monitoring the t spheres was so damn cool
i have seen people saying batman should have the same thing, where his eyes go white when he uses "detective mode"
i think that could absolutely work
Bro Mr Terrfic here was fucking epic, I hated the cw version of the character on arrow.
he started of okay in arrow but then they made dude a corn ball
Did you guys hear what Corenswet said about Pattinson
no
It was a joke but itās cool to see him acknowledge him
Celeb drama yawn?
Basically that Pattinson didnāt reach out to congratulate him lol
pattinson is NOT the dcu batman and i will not hear otherwise
It was a joke though
it isnt happen
why would he???
oh another note i just remembered
Interviewer brought up who reached out etc
in the movie one of the billboards was for "world's finest coffee" clearly a reference to world's finest
Also Antony Starr (homelander) watched the movie
It would be sick if he was. The contrast in color tones for the movie which integrates Superman and Batman could be cool to play with for whoever directs that film.
Hell yeah
their universes are way too different
seeing how comic accurate superman is
Eh thatās what makes their dynamic so fun though
That clash is what could be fun tho.
i would want dcu batman to receive a similar treatment
Pattinson batman is elseworld
not at all
Gunn already said theyre separate
Pattinson Batman is MY world ā„ļø
good. they should stay separate
Weāll see how long that sticks
it sticks forever
Theyāre def having convos
Not if I have anything to say about it!
Iāll simply call Gunn
james gunn has acknowledged that they have discussed it but that dcu will have its own batman and he expects to see a script for it this year
š¤·š¾āāļø we wonāt know till more details come out about the Batman and Superman movie when ever it happens or Batman brave or whatev itās called.
Gunn announced a bunch of writers working on projects within the DCU
Brave and the bold
Of those said writers, Goddard is the only one not attached to an announced project
"we dont know" except james gunn has repeatedly confirmed it wont be pattinson as recently as like a week ago
Very interesting indeed
Wait
Has anyone asked Pattinson if he wants to join? ššš
right but things can always change canāt they, unless theyāve already locked in an actor
i really don't think we should have a dcu batman or dcu wonder woman period. this movie is so great and sets up a readymade justice league already that we don't need bats and wondy. let them remain in the past.
i mean, i guess...? but you could say that about anything
Yeah idk why itās so crazy to believe that a well received live action Batman and a well received live action Superman wonāt combine lol
spider-man isnt in the dcu due to being a marvel character but "things can always change" right?
Itd make bank
I know Gunn, Reeves, Saffran said no but is no really no when money is involved? š
Well Marvel X DC crossover movie isnāt as big of a leap now with Gunn driving the ship
it is indeed a no
never gonna happen. wb keeping dc forever now.
Guys let me dream
IF pattinson did join the dcu it would have to be after his second movie releases, which will be late 2027 at the earliest
meaning we wouldnt see him in the dcu until at least 2028
Look how well they complement each other
If itās got the potential to be stupidly profitable then maybe.
thats just color grading
Honestly, itās more than likely going to be a routh and bale situation
orange and blue are contrasting colors
i could color grade literally anyone orange and it would "complement" superman well
they really don't
why can't we just get a DC universe that doesn't have a batman and wonder woman?
Color grading, the mannerisms of the characters, and drama you can have between the characters. It could be hella fun to play with. The contrast is whatās key.
The future of the DCU is indeed very bright
it is literally never going to happen
They also have those collars š
i would bet money on this
also somehow nathan fillion as guy gardner green lantern is hot
i have no reason to believe it wont be, since gunn is personally approving every script before a single camera roles and superman is a clear indicator that his quality standards are high
Do we think the message of Jor el wanting Clark to conquer was fake?
"that haircut should be against your vows"
it was real
no, it was real, that's the point. that superman goes against his programming
it was very clearly real
If anyone is gonna make me a DC fan its definitely gonna be Gunn
.i think Superman will be my second ever 5/5 for a DC film.
...the other is Gunn's Suicide Squad. Pattern?
I like to believe brainiac messed with it
True, tho the more movies we get to see under this leadership the better gauge we will have as to if this is just ātalkā or action.
So I guess Gunn is doing the nature vs nurture thing then
superman spent his whole life doing good because he thought he was supposed to be, after finding out he was meant for evil he has a crisis of identity before pa helps him realize that he is good because of his actions, not because someone told him to be
Nurture > nature
yes. but that's the perfect theme for supes
so is self-nurture too
Seems like most people think itās real, idk, it seems so but also Lex and his mfs coulda easily doctored ts, like this version of Lex is petty
Iām so excited to see Corenswet lead a justice league
mr terrific said its real. its real
I honestly believe it was misconstrued. Brainiac definitely had something to do with it
what
get off the meth dawg
It being real is a big thematic element
Whatās so hard to believe that the smartest being in the universe could do that lol
it being fake completely undermines the main theme of the movie
And furthers the character building of Superman
because its stupid?
Mr Terrific argument for it being real seemed kinda cop out ish. He said itās real because other āpeopleā he viewed as smart said itās realā¦
the message was real
holy shit
it was made so clear that its real
thats the whole point
Right this makes sense but still š¤·š¾āāļø
No need to get worked up amigo
i am baffled by your lack of media literacy
dawg what is ur problem
Itās odd to be this mad about theories ngl lol
Fr like wtf
you literally missed the entire theme of the movie š
no not at all š¤£
this isnt even a theory, just blatantly ignoring information provided in the movie
I never disagree with the theme of the movie⦠??? Where did I say that š
Bro we understand itās a major thematic element and helps Superman build character but weāre also not sure itās the end of that story
I donāt see Gunn dropping that storyline
it's quite clear in the superman 2025 movie that Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van's message was real which is the point. to show how superman goes against the programming that his crappy conquest-loving biological parents set up for him. instead he not only self-nurtures into a more heroic, optimistic, and self-sacrificing and still flawed human despite being an alien from an otherwordly planet called Krypton but he is also nurtured by the environment of his emotionally stable, healthy, and positive adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, THAT'S LITERALLY THE WHOLE POINT
if the message is revealed to be fake, it literally undoes all of the character development from this movie and invalidates the entire message
it would be the worst narrative choice possible
i cannot believe these are real people who watch movies
ya this just got weirdā¦
it would be equivalent to james camerons showing an entire tribe of evil Na'Vi blue alien people in avatar 3 which would thereby undo the anti-colonialism messages of the previous 2 avatar movies, OH WAIT!!!! https://screenrant.com/avatar-3-navi-villain-plan-original-message-hurt/
I canāt believe your actually upset over this
i aint upset, just amazed
also you're*
no need to be pretentious dawg whatās ur deal
lol god forbid people want to see a plot thread elaborated on
luckily james gunn knows not to do that with superman 2025 so yes, jor el and lara's pro-conquest message stays real and awful and horrendous and THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT
your "theory" is literally just "actually what if the entire message of the first movie and all of superman's growth as a character didnt really happen"
it doesn't require elaboration
changing it or doing a twist would only hurt the story
this is why fans arent writers lol
it's a shit theory because it demonstrates a lack of basic media comprehension. how can you walk away from watching superman 2025 and think "maybe jor el and lara's message was fake, BLURGH" š¤Ŗ
i completely agree
the entire point is that its real
that superman WAS sent to rule earth
again i point everyone to this #1392225868402921634 message
but by being raised by humans he grew to become the best of mankind
if the message was fake, then superman never went against his destiny, he never turned against his heritage to embrace his humanity
his entire ending monologue meant nothing
the entire movie meant nothing
it would literally be a movie about nothing if the message was fake
and that's why the message stays real, it's again, literally the whole moral thesis statement of this movie #1392225868402921634 message
the message being fake would be like if in spider-man far from home it was revealed tony stark was still alive randomly
I donāt think @primal locust or I disagree with this.
remember the original title was superman legacy
the entire movie is about superman battling with his kryptonian vs human identity
if the message is fake then there is no internal conflict
there is no struggle
its just plain shitty writing
lol I donāt disagree with anything you guys are saying in terms of thematic elements. Iām just suggesting a FAN theory šš Jesus Christ lol
its a really bad fan theory
Bro itās speculation. Thatās why these movies are fun to talk about
why would you suggest something that actively makes the movie worse?
Iām suggesting something that could be interesting to explore in a sequel ie. elaboration on krypton and Braniac
do you really think james gunn would undo the entire message of the movie?
it couldnt be interesting
NO š
Im just saying that itās not far fetched to think that brainiac could be responsible for the footage
yes it is????
lol absolutely nothing my god š
thats absurd
gunn has said repeatedly he isnt tryint to set up sequels with this movie
he wouldnt have a main plot thread actually be a lie created by a random character never mentioned before
????? Are you really suggesting Supermanās not going to have a sequel my man lol
obviously it is
but thinking that the thing that allows for the main message of the movie was a deception by someone we have never met is ridiculous
its "somehow palpatine has returned" levels of bad writing
"oh it was actually brainiac all along guys, dont mind the complete absence of actual setup and the fact that this undoes literally all of superman's character development"
you do understand how the message being fake would undo superman's character development, right?
Damn bro can I borrow your Time Machine I didnāt know you watched the sequel
don't remind me of that dumpster fire
exactly, which is why the message is real, THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT, WHY ARE WE DEBATING THIS?
Just bc you canāt think of an interesting way to extend the story doesnāt mean it canāt happen
i think i might be debating a 12 year old boy in india
Please never invest time into writing my brother š
You have a really weird obsession with India dude
are you actually suggesting that your brainiac idea is "an interesting way to extend the story"
What does that have to do with a fan theory about brainiac
im meming a james gunn quote, calm down
Itās just odd for you to keep falling back on a very weird comment trying to get a reaction lol
what kind of reaction would i be trying to get?
Iām not sure man but itās just odd tbh
youre so angry, just calm down
Respectfully, bringing up a personās race or ethnicity or culture is an odd deflection when talking comic books
No one is angry my brother lol
i have no idea what race or ethnicity or culture you are and i obviously do not think that it would impact the validity of anything youre saying
Thatās fair but to constantly bring up that quote seems odd in relation to what weāre discussing
Thatās all
No hard feelings. Just an acknowledgement lol
"12 year old boy from india" is just a way james gunn described internet trolls and i thought it was funny
i referenced it twice
not sure if thats "constantly" bringing it up
lol weāre having an entire convo that is currently revolving around it
my point was that im wasting my time trying to explain basic media literacy and storytelling to someone who's probably a child and has no effect on my life
Like itās unfortunate that we canāt discuss a very good Superman movie without getting hostile
I donāt know if I agree with this portion, the crux is Lex Luther trying to brand Superman as an alien, people are still swayed to hate Superman as much as he does, Lex in this movie is egotistical asf right? If he doctored the second half how does that invalidate the ending monologue, how does it mean nothing? Supes is still spitting facts?
Saying the entire movie means nothing just because of that doesnāt seem to trek? There is a whole lot more to this movie than just the idea of Superman disobeying his ādestinyā by his going against the directives of his family,ā tbh that point was one I didnāt much care for.
You got pretty on the nose commentary on prominent issues, Superman trying to overcome a world that wants to see him fail.
the score was so good fr, bro cooked
Me when Look Up played
the movie very clearly and blatantly shows the engineer finding the second half of the message
Screaming media literacy to try and shut someone up is pretty stupid tbh
This movie was so stylish
its such good storytelling that lex didnt even have to make something up
Iām with you
while looking for a way to destroy superman he accidentally found a way to completely villainize him
That part in the intro when the camera moved to his emblem and then the title came up had me like this
James Gunn used the fuck outta the camera in this movie
The visuals were so kinetic
like yeah lex could falsify a message that says superman is evil, and we see him doing lots of similar plots, but the fact that his most effective strategy is one that came by complete accident is very satisfying from a narrative standpoint
THAT WAS SO FIRE
The way the camera was moving almost had me dizzy lmao
Lex is still using able to manipulate the general public against supes if the second part is doctored or not?
I wasn't used to that kinda movement it was crazy
its not at all crazy to think lex would do something like faking the message, but the movie very clearly and explicitly states that he didnt
That is fair, and not cliche fosho.
The flying scenes were incredible
ALSO THEM USING A GUITAR IN THE SCORE
EVERY TIME A RIFF CAME IN
ME WHEN THEY HIT THE SUPERMAN GUITAR RIFF AS HE'S KICKING THE SHIT OUTTA SOME BADDIES
Anyone else surprised excited to see ||bizarro||
you dont gotta spoiler tag bizarro
MUCH BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE
IN THE BEST WAY IMAGINABLE
this movie was so score focused
only four songs credited
and two of them were credits songs
MUST BUY THE SUPERMAN 2025 SOUNDTRACK
there was the mr terrific needle drop which was awesome and that's literally it
WHAT IS THIS
There's no way that's real
Bro didn't watch the movie
That is so ironic
Itās literally something Lex Luthor would do lol
If Trump actually watched he would not like š
oh great, real life lex luthor thinks he's the hero of this story again. š
Lex Luther had such generational hatred for Superman in this movie that he was spamming Injustice combos on him
D6 A5 S2 V8
that implies trump has basic media comprehension which he likely lacks
Lmaoooo you werenāt lying
š
Canāt wait to see what the boys writers do with that
republicans watch star wars and think they are the resistance
bro created and memorized thousands of combos over multiple years to kick superman's ass, absolutely insane devotion
I think Lex was more modeled after Elon, Lex is smart. š lacks any understanding of STEM
elon isnt smart lol
lex is evil and blinded by hatred but he is competent
i love how he admits at the end that he is entirely fueled by envy
Def not a fan of Elon, but dude is definitely not an idiot. W/STEM Heās demonstrated solid systems level, and more than your avg fang software engineer. Heās had jobs at PayPal back in the day, creating zip2, his accomplishments at spaceX, Tesla⦠I mean shoot even open ai was co-founded by him, ā while he may not be responsible for the boom in gpts, heās got an eye for talent.
His spiral has been odd none the less, entertaining.
Much like Lex, who also gets smart people to work with himā¦etc. heās making shit happen. not saying itās necessarily āgoodā or ābadā.
you won't catch eyesore musk or trump displaying that kind of self-awareness
thats fair, elon clearly has some technical level of intelligence? just fell down a weird alt right rabbit hole in the last few years
|| Iām just hoping the rift between him and š deepens so they can screw eachother over ||
What did yāall think of the Boravia and Jarhanpur dialogue?
I kinda thought they'd show us Superman arriving just in time to save that kid
Same, tho I liked the direction we got instead.
But it's a bold move to not have him saved and have the other members do it. I wonder if people will have a different perception of him
First 1/4 had me regretting watching the trailers.
Ultraman plot, and I only watched the first trailer
Idk if this Ultraman ended up in an alternate universe through that wormhole.
Oh interesting idea, I wonder if gun plans to expand on Boravia and Jarhanpur or they were just used for this film.
was thinking thatās how gunn was gonna introduce bizarro, when he got sucked into the black hole. but idk, not sure what dc logic is with regards to super powered ppl surviving black holes š¤·š¾āāļø. There are many threads in this film they play with in sequels... etc
Maybe in peacemaker or the authority
Wats the latter?
A project
Group
i hope so
R they like the X-men of dc?
or Illuminati
Iām surprised IMDb hasnāt shown the ratings yet.
Can we discuss these
williams theme or not?
It's the Williams theme but super sized and enhanced
Have you watched young justice
What did you guys think of Bradley Cooper as Jor El. For me it took some time to get used to
Completely caught me by surprise
James Gunn is like that joke from the Simpsons. āGunn did it againā
Overall good movie like a 8.1/10
(Thatās a great achievement, because these day I question are movies even movies anymore)
If you ask me what was missing from the movie, I would say more emotions.
Lex from this movie did Lex Luther from Smallville justice.
Going to be a tuff one, trying to make every dc movie to this level
Whatās funny: Anthony Carrigan, the guy from Barry was metamorpho
What was shocking: The guy from the magicians is Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) husband?!
Watched Superman and it was so much fun. DCU world created by Gunn is just so interesting with metahumans already existing for 3 centuries, this is a totally fantasy world. Performances were great all around, from David as Superman to Rachel as Lois, supporting casts were great too but I did wish some of them were more fleshed out. I absolutely didn't expect Mr. Terrific to be so good. Action scenes are amazing, some a bit chaotic at times, didn't have much problems with CGI except a few shots. I actually liked Krypto in this movie.
Lex is a great villian and man, he has quite a few tools under his disposal, like a pocket universe which was cool and Lex putting his ex girlfriends in that dimension was something i didnt expect. Ultra man being a clone of Superman made sense. The ending was fantastic with Lex now in prison and Superman redeemed. Btw, nice reveal for Supergirl too and Krypto is actually her dog.
Fantastic movie, really enjoyed this and can't wait to see more of DCU world.
This was a fantastic scene
The only lex is considered the best lex was smallville lex until today
Yes those emotionally weighty moments
Si
Haven't watched Small ville but this is my favourite Lex too
Like he wants to become a King literally
Like his dad has the most incredible dad voice and I think with a little more time and patience that dialogue scene could have been as epic as something like one of the more emotional scenes in guardians. There's a patience in gotg3 that allows rocket to express his emotions the right way and the audience feel it when accompanied by the music/silence. That kind of cinematic blend is something I would have liked James to involve more
Loved Clark with his Dad and mom in this movie
I doubt fantastic 4 is going to be this good?
Just another marvel movie to watch, because they all connected.
To what, I donāt even š¤·
Rating: Ā somewhere between a 3.5/5 ā 4/5, Iāll round up to 4/5.Ā This is a vibrant, densely packed superhero film that presents a more hopeful, empathetic Superman, one who sees the good in people and remains idealistic in a cynical world. Positives The cast is excellent. Performances are strong across the board, and Iām eager to see the...
What did you think of Superman and Louis version of Lex? While smallville Lex was one of my favorites, S&L version of Lex was menacing.
It's gonna be very different but I think it is gonna be good.. I'm definitely watching it in theatres
Iāve checked outta that movie. I saw the first and second trailers and have been trying to avoid looking at more. I strongly dislike the music direction the two trailers ive watched had, tho I think at the same time it gives f4 a unique vibe.
Then there is the casting of Pedro⦠idk if this is gonna work. Iām def open but oof⦠fellow is over-exposed. Also⦠not really sure how they will make galactus work, the version they have of him looks cool⦠Iāve got ptsd from fantastic four rise of silver surfer .
I have extremely low expectations.
You mean that cw show, I hated that they put Louis name with Superman, never watched it because of that disrespect, like she matters. š«
I liked the flash and legends of tomorrow, arrow was ok too.
I saw the crossover and the lex was played be the guy from ātwo men in a halfā
That lex?
āItās all connectedā,
only reason Iām watching it.
Thatās mainly the end scenes, so I probably wait till itās on tv
I'm watching because of the characters, also the villian..
Yeah, I also wanna know, how are they going to defeat that giant š
Oh you missing out fam, itās quite good. One of the better if not most cohesive arrowverse shows.
Power of friendshipš¤£, some rumor I heard ,not sure if true or not, is that|| silver surfer and sue save the day? ||
Didnāt that show get cancelled in the third season, or was it because cw didnāt have the funds?
Mix of covid, writers strike + Fund issue, they were given a chance to wrap it up in the 4th season which was surprising. The 4th season had quite the emotional series finale.
Did you catch the JSA hint
Wow I didnāt know
The top gun intro is so perfect. And the fortress feels much grander than the trailers
Love the fact that it turns, disappears and then re-appears.
Krypto such an asshole for not flying the guy back š
I also think this was the most acrobatic nature I've seen superman fight in for live action, mostly its just high-speed punches. State of light was a platform for him.
Remember what Superman said. He was raised by Supergirl.
Aso wasnt sg older than Clark?
I donāt understand. Repeat please. Maybe Iām just tired. I read this part when I go online tomorrow
Idk what the situation is here, but, Superman aged faster, due to Supergirl getting knocked off course into I think a dimensional rift.
But in krypton she was.
Oh I see
Something space something time
Idk what part to explain š
Na itās cool, I read it again when I have my pot of coffee in the morning, then I reply back to you lol
The world building here is TAS level
Maybe to TAS'own fault Clark already felt like that grown superman by the time he arrived at metropolis.
While this version feels like he has a lot to learn.
But I do wanna see Corenswets interpretation mature into that stoich and strong willed nature.
In a way developing to that point will feel earned.
"Brain beats brawn every time"
I Just watched Superman. David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and Edi Gathegi gave solid performances as Superman/Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and Mister Terrific/Michael Holt respectively.
Corenswetās performance was well done. He delivered a charismatic Superman, striking a balance between lightheartedness and seriousness when it was required in the story. Itās the best live action take on the character since Christopher Reeveās iconic portrayal.
Hoult brought a sinister take on Lex Luthor. He portrayed Lex as a very malevolent man with no redeeming qualities, someone willing to do anything to achieve his goals. Itās a great direction in an age where many villains are made to seem sympathetic. His performance is the best one after Michael Rosenbaum and Gene Hackmanās live action versions.
Brosnahanās Lois was amazing. She really nailed the spirit of the character. It felt like a live action version of DCAU Lois, and at times she even reminded me of Margot Kidderās portrayal.
Gathegiās Mister Terrific stood out among the other members of the Justice Gang. He played the character as a cool and stoic genius, the third smartest man on Earth, who uses his signature floating T-Spheres to analyse and fight his opponents.
Jonathan and Martha Kent were wholesome and the actors did well. One standout scene was between Clark and Pa Kent, where Jonathan talks about how our choices define us. He tells Clark that just because his biological parents were awful people doesnāt mean he has to be. He chooses to be good, and thatās what matters.
The action scenes were entertaining and the final fight against Ultraman was good. Ultraman is revealed to be Clarkās clone, created by Lex, but dumber and more ruthless, controlled by his minions. Maybe itās possible he ends up being Bizzaro in the upcoming films. Krypto was also a fun addition.
Now, onto the issues.
One major problem I had was with the portrayal of Kryptonians. After Lex decodes the full message from Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, itās revealed that the Kryptonians were a conquering race. They wanted their son to rule over humanity, seeing humans as weak and to impregnate as many women as possible to ensure the survival of their species. This felt off from the lore. Reviewers praised the movie for its comic accuracy, but this change was the equivalent of Jonathan Kentās infamous death scene in MOS, which was controversial to say the least. According to Terrific, the message wasnāt even doctored, which made things worse. It reduced Supermanās origin to something closer to the Saiyans from Dragon Ball or the Viltrumites from Invincible. Itās a classic sci-fi trope, where the aliens are portrayed as bad guys.
The Justice Gang didnāt feel necessary. Their inclusion made the film feel bloated for what was supposed to be a solo Superman movie. Mr Terrific was more than enough. In fact, he felt somewhat underused despite his capabilities. The final battle between Clark vs Engineer and Ultraman shouldāve been cut down. It wouldāve been great to see Terrific handle Engineer on his own with his ingenuity.
The camerawork was inconsistent, shoddy and unpolished at times. Otherwise the film looked fine. The score however was forgettable. It felt pale in comparison to Williamsā legendary theme in Superman or Zimmers powerful score in Man of Steel.
Gunnās decision to nerf Supermanās power was also questionable. You donāt need to weaken a godlike character to humanise him. The comics, the Donner films, and the animated adaptations have always balanced his overwhelming power and humanity.
Overall, this was a decent flick. I give it a 3/5, which was the same rating I gave Gunnās previous superhero films, like the GOTG trilogy.
I liked the ending, where Clark reminisces about his memories with his adoptive parents. The post credit scene had an interesting cameo in which Supergirl was drunk while trying to get her dog, Krypto. Iāve seen people criticise this portrayal, but in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, she is shown to be drunk, and thatās the comic theyāre adapting.
Another issue I forgot to mention is the overdone humour during serious situations. Itās typical Gunn, so Iām not surprised this was a problem in the film.
Lots to like lots to dislike
I honestly surprised myself by not really disliking anything here
I don't have much complaints here, maybe the movie should have been a bit longer to flesh out other supporting characters from Daily planet and also show more Clark Kent.. but this is just a nitpick. Loved the movie overall.
I thought Justice gang played a good role but the role wasn't that huge imo, Mr. Terrific was great.
I don't get why you think Superman was nerfed?? Like yes he couldn't destroy planets and stuff but he could get out of Black hole by his mere breath.. took out those raptors and I also think that because superman believes every life is valuable, he isn't using his powers at his full extent.
Also.. if Superman is this god like figure who can destroy anything he touches.. its not gonna be a easy story to write. Superman is the strongest metahuman on Earth.
yeah literally my only criticism is that i wish the movie was like 5 minutes longer but thats it
I wish it was more than 10 minutes or more
Superman struggled against all his enemies and was beaten up badly. He was nerfed.
He also stated that he wouldnāt able to get out of the black hole iirc.
I think a reason for that is it makes the character easier to feel for? If not Superman seems more like a āgodā/OP
Gunn also confirmed this in the interview that he wanted to nerf the character to humanise him. I think that wasnāt required because itās possible to do both.
Weāve seen this in earlier adaptations. Even in the DCAU, he wasnāt nerfed that badly aside from Justice League Season 1. Thatās something they need to fix.
I donāt think nerfing a character makes them more relatable or humanises them. Especially a character like Superman.
It hasnāt been an issue before.
Again.. it wasn't all his enemies.. it was his own clone and also The engineer plus very important to remember that Luther had studied 3 years on how to beat Superman and was guiding Ultra man to beat Superman.. Once that help was taken away, Superman beat Ultra man.
Plus once again, Superman isn't using his full strength imo because he doesn't want to kill anybody.. not even a kaiju monster.
Superman doesnāt need full strength to handle these characters.
He never goes full power.
The Ultraman fight makes sense, but the one with Engineer and Kaiju doesnāt
Again.. you can't make Superman a god like character where he can destroy planets alright.. even Cavill Superman wasn't that powerful.
The Justice Gang stopped the Kaiju tbh. Superman alone couldāve stopped the threat, if he wasnāt nerfed.
Did I say he should destroy planets?
He would have defeated Engineer if he fought her alone
Superman didn't wanna kill the kaiju and he was busy saving others too.. Superman would have absolutely defeated the kaiju, he didn't even use heat beam
Reeve, Welling and Cavill Superman were definitely portrayed to be powerful. I know many donāt like the latter, but the other two were pretty OP.
Superman doesnāt need to kill or use full power to handle a baby Kaiju threat. He struggled, which is why the Justice Gang finished the job. Hell, even Mr Terrific was not impressed.
That wasn't baby kaiju come on.. also both Green lantern and hawk girl were struggling as well
The point is Superman couldāve done the job, instead of relying on Justice Gang.
Mr terrific was not impressed with Superman because Superman wanted to save the kaiju which for Mr terrific was ridiculous
He was working on it and Justice gang helped.. he would have defeated kaiju eventually and he was also focusing on saving everyone else along with fighting kaiju.. he wasn't 100% concentrated on just fighting kaijus
āEventuallyā
This is just head canon.
We also see this Superman struggle to lift a skyscraper.
If this was a Superman that didn't care about saving every life.. then he could have just went inside mouth of that kaiju and killed him from inside..
Again.. he wanted to save the kaiju
So?? Cavill Superman also struggled to lift stuff in man of steel
I donāt think he did, neither did Reeve or Welling. They were portrayed Godlike
Cavill Superman struggled to lift a oil tanker.. and plus Cavill Superman wasn't interested in saving every life and hence a lot of skyscrapers just fell unlike this Superman
We also see Cavill Superman lift a building in Justice League
Also important to remember that Gunn is a Superman comic books fan and when Superman was first created in 1938, he couldn't even fly and in many comics he wasn't this all powerful superhero.. later comics did make him very powerful and also the movies.. Gunn is going back to the roots.
Even the hypno glasses is taken from the comics.
Thereās another scene iirc where he moves a ship in BvS. Reeve Superman does better against Zod and his minions.
Whereas, Corenman struggled a lot against Ultraman. I think heās nerfed a lot, which even Gunn confirms.
Again for me.. Gunn's Superman wasn't nerfed.. he's still the strongest superhuman in DCU, he's holding back a lot of times because he doesn't want to kill anybody
Ultraman was a literal clone and he was helped a lot by Luther with his moves.. if it was Superman vs ultra man one on one.. Superman would have beaten Ultraman more easily
Superman always holds back. Even in DCAU, where the character was nerfed, he wasnāt this weakly portrayed.
The final battle was a one on one, after Engineer was fucked up. Superman had to outwit Ultraman in order to beat him.
Hence the āBrains over brawnā comment
Anyways, letās agree to disagree.
Ultraman is basically a Superman clone though with similar powers to his.
But ya let's agree to disagree on this
By the end Welling was much more op, but for s1-s6 dude was have issues with case of the week āmeteor freaksā
S1 Welling alone probably beats this version lol
Thereās even a scene in this movie, where Superman lays down like Yamcha from DB.
Gunn didnāt want to portray him all that powerful because he thought itās boring. He also mentioned why he prefers Batman for this reason
I'm glad Gunn didn't make Superman all powerful
Corenswetās Superman in terms of performance is only below Christopher Reeve, which Iāve mentioned in my review. Only issue with this Superman is that heās somewhat weak.
Considering how some reviewers were praising the comic accuracy of the movie, I find it odd he nerfed him. The Kryptonian heritage aspect is also a significant issue, which is weird lore wise.
Well, when Superman was first created in 1938.. he couldn't even fly, so he wasn't this all powerful superhero in the beginning
Gunn wasnāt adapting early Golden Age era Superman. I donāt know why you bring that up
By the end of GA era, Superman was incredibly powerful.
Gunn wasn't adapting any one particular comic.. he took a inspiration from a lot of comics
My only point is that Superman wasn't always portrayed as all powerful in the comics.. he was even killed at one point and Gunn took inspiration from many comics.
Again, personally I don't even think Superman was that nerfed in this movie.
Okay, but your point doesnāt make sense. Superman can fly, use heat vision, freeze breath, X-ray vision, etc in this film. His 1930s power level is irrelevant and from the looks of it, Gunn was influenced more by later works than the Golden Age period.
I personally don't think Superman was even nerfed but if even if you think he was, then my point was that he wasn't very powerful in early comic book runs..
BTW.. Superman killed those raptors quite easily.. doesn't look like someone who was nerfed and weak
What were some of the other things you felt you needed to explain to make this Superman work?
There are things that I know I donāt explain that I donāt even want to say out loud! But I wanted Superman to be vulnerable. I see the online things āWho would beat whom?ā ā Homelander or Superman or fucking whatever, Adam Warlock or Brightburn, and Iām like, āThis is the fucking stupidest fucking conversation.ā Like, so then whoever would win this fight means that theyāre the best? Because Iāll just go out and write God Man, who can destroy you with a wink. And I win. I win all the fights forever. But I didnāt want a Superman who could punch planets. And also weāre creating a whole universe now, so whatās a girl with wings gonna do in the face of that? So heās a little less powerful. [Green Lantern] Guy Gardnerās pretty fucking powerful. Theyāre all pretty powerful.
This is what Gunn said in the interview
enjoyed , but man does Gunn not like women?
superman prime, and this supe is still young, after being under a yellow sun for like 30+ years is nigh unbeatable
I like that it showed he can get beat up, but it literally took a another superman to beat him
and he still beat that one
What did you think about the movie?
the interview scene in the first 20 min was actually compelling
Whatās your rating?
Wym?
this is the most human superman for sure
6
the cgi dog had better writing than any of the women in this movie
Same. It was decent
Its being presented as a human story but instead of focusing on humans weāre in a pocket dimension fighting 3 villains and the world is being split in half
Itās quite contrasting in its messaging and actual events
But I love the politically charged nature of it
this movie does not pass the bechdel test
Tbh I didnāt care about the politics.
I think thatās the best part
Louis was decent, I found that most characters in the movie felt 1D but where good in being true to character
Superman is the perfect character for a politically charged story
then i'd say that yea, it was focused more on driving the story than as much character driven
And thatās done quite well
The core of the story is clearly supposed to represent a current world event that we cant talk about in here
What did you think about the el controversy is that gonna be resolved
I didnāt expect Lex to outright kill that dude Mali.
Jarhanapurians lmao
Anyone with two eyes knows what itās supposed to represent
Issue for me is other than justice gang do any characters get character development?
it was a savage, and some things in this movie were a bit savage
not really, superman started and ended the movie the same
lex too
Exactly
james gunn dropped us in this world said LOOK AT IT
I will argue I think Lex is a character that shouldnāt change
But itās true for the rest of them
none should ,technically
Well
kara hopefully
Lois and Clarkās relationship couldāve gone literally anywhere
More than 2 scenes could help that
they had a 10 minute ethics arguuement on geopolitics in the first 20min
Like Hawkgirl dropping Boravian leader. She said she aināt like Superman.
Smallville was fun getting to see the changes in Lex but him slowly revert to the villain, a similar thing happens in Superman and Louis, where Lex is so evil but wants to be good father to his daughter but fails.
Thatās my favourite scene
Likewise
that the honestly, outright murder of monsters and Mali
but like Guy gardner
yea i needed one more of those near the end
Thatās why I think the messaging is not translated very well
That Mr Terrific scene is cool as shit.
The argument is that Superman is human but we only really see him do magical stuff
Fighting in a pocket dimension and saving the world from tearing against an evil clone
Not enough Lois and Clark romance, not much Daily Planet, not enough with his parents
The ending with his growing up moments is great but doesnāt feel very earned when theyāre barely in it
I guess the film long couldāve been longer
https://boxd.it/aihUFF movie owned
I think time shouldāve just been spent elsewhere
Get rid of Ultraman and the pocket dimension and you have like 40 minutes there
Love how they made it out that Superman is his own man, and not someone that is lead by his parents.
that he is a hero is inherent, but he means he's just another person as anyone else living on earth and hes just trying to do his best with what he was given
I completely got that but we dont see a lot of him doing that stuff
if the world throws him an earth ripping dimesion tear, he will like anyone with the power to do so, could try their best
I wish he was more vocal about his distaste in how they treated the monster
All of the stuff is there but itās not very explored
The Ultraman bit was definitely inspired by The Boys. Even even the outfit resembled Black Noirās.
but like a human, he tried his best at what he could, which is protecting everyone else from getting crushed by the monster while messier heroes take the monster down
DCU Superman is basically Brightburn all grown up, if he was good.
it was done better here than in the boys show
kinda of , yeah
Oh no Mando didnāt like movie :(
they def went away from the comics
where as atleast we got a one-off Bizarro
Black Noir in The Boys show is much better than the one from comics. The ending was a cop out in the comics.
def by no means perfect superhero movie, buts itās great base to build gunns dcu on
I like that it wasnāt a clone of Homelander.
i think I got my fill personally, cool flying and fighting scenes, fuck yea krypto, supergirl, alan tudyk robot, Lex being a crazy xenophobe
I hope Mercy is in the next movie
i prefer this approach than in the boys
Pa and Ma Kent felt pretty real.
Iām glad it works for a lot of people, all depends what you want out of it
Wish there was more of them
If youāre just going for a good punch about youāll love it innit and thatās great
i felt it worked somewhat in the comics but there were other parts of the boys comics i preferred
they felt ultra grounded, not Kevin Costner tornado parent
what did yall think of the non orchestral track usage, for example during scene with Mr Terrific? Did that bother anyone
Fun scene
i loved it. it did seem a little gotg but also its own thing
The score was unremarkable
But I expected that when they hired a nobody to quickly come and fix it
the Mr Terrific "NOT AT ALL YONDU Whitslting Arrow" Scene was interesting
Also, Corenswetās Superman was also pretty serious when required. More angry than Christopher Reeve version. Snyder fanboys online were criticising how campy this Superman was lol.
They didnāt watch the movie
I like an angry superman
I felt that specific scene music choice seemed kinda to much gog rather than other orchestral tracks that were used. It also took me outa the scene, which is a cool scene.
i liked it
Is fine
What el controversy?
score was unremarkable imo
he wasn't campy at all. if anything he felt more genuine than the cavil version
bog standard superman score
Well the message
I liked the orchestral tracks and the end credits music.
They replaced the composer like 3 months ago to come in and redo it all
i loved it. can't wait to download the soundtrack
So think even they know itās quite weak
Of being sent to rule
good
But itās fine
I think they referring el lore being changed
That was horrible. Worst part about the film and it wasnāt even doctored.
it was not horrible
Unless, they can explain this in the upcoming movies.
it was one of the most perfect messages i've seen in the film
Was I asking u
It was. Kryptonians are no conquerors.
Theyāre vultrimites
open forum bub
I mean.. that made sense for the movie because it shows that superman chose to do good things himself even if he was sent to rule
whole damn point
Jor-El has the same views as Zod.
yuppp
just cause hes in the "science division" doesnt mean he doesnt want to prop up his race
They overdid with the harem partš
I had felt like there was enough ambiguity, that we could say it may be doctored, Lex is manipulating many things in the film, bolvariaā¦etc. him having it modified then showing only the dub is susā¦
Don't know how many watch Invincible but I mean, maybe this DCU Krypton is kinda like Viltrum..
It felt so over the top like something petty Lex would say.
i'll leave you with this #1392225868402921634 message
i mean, in relation to how todays social media is used, there are people who literally think there are pedo rings under Pizza Huts
the monkeys being online trolls was crazy
Lex also locked up his ex girlfriends in the pocket dimension iirc.
Also Mr Teriffic sayings itās real because he trusts the scientists that work for Lex that analyzed itā¦ š¤·š¾āāļø
This movie feels a bit like a sequel to a first movie that doesnāt exist
Yeah I'm conflicted on that cause on one hand it sacrifices the el reputation to increase the value of the Kent family on Superman. Maybe I would have preferred both families to be equally involved in building the character.
In the DC Universe, Mister Terrific is generally considered the third smartest human. He is often placed behind Lex Luthor and Batman in terms of raw intelligence.
Well, heās the third smartest man
not really. the title cards at the beginning explained the lore
Right but even if doctored the message remains the same, Lex is trying to de-humanize Clark, much like those that dislike illegals do
Yeah, but Terrific thinks heās the smartest.
Lots of telling and not showing
not with that garage door he cant
Absolutely.. Lex calls superman it
