#đșThe Penguin

Like a medieval pre battle speech
Batman still not being involved is crazy.
This is the biggest shit going around in the city.
Not yet
Season's gonna end with some shit going too far, that's when it ends and Batman comes in
The Falcone massacre shouldâve already alerted him.
Its good that they keep Batman out cause if he were in the show it'd become a Batman show instead of Penguin, like you cant really have a crime thriller with some deus ex ninja running around
So far, The Penguin has been amazing. I have a few minor complaints but if it sticks the last 2 eps, its gonna be one of the best shows of 2024 for me
He doesnât have to appear
Yeah its like TDK where they managed to make a good stand alone show inspired by comics
At least he should be doing stuff off screen
I seriously doubt that
I am sure that will be explained in the movie
Imagine final ep Sofia just starts shapeshifting outta fucking nowhere lmao, "So what are you, some kinda... Clayface?"
A little exposition dialogue will clue you in probably
Listening to official podcast, it has only been 10 days since end of last episode and the current one
I mean I know Sofia is Bane so, can't wait to see her fuck up Batman
Oh I gotta listen to the pod too yeah
Ah.. Don is talking about Eve, Oz's partner ...not Sofia
The director's input in the pod is always awesome... less so the producers but its whatever
Also we know there will be no supernatural stuff in Reeves Batman universe
Thing about the actors I love in the pod is that their voices are totally unrecognizable
The most important person is the showrunner in TV shows
I was like "Wait that's Sofia's actress talking"
One thing I can respect about Oz is his ambition. Very relatable stuff.
I do hope Sofia survives this season and we will see her in future Batman movies.. not a huge role but a background one
Yeah but for logistical and industrial reasons I feel like, the vibe I got was that the producers, Laura especially isn't good at articulating what she means. She wrote the entire Sofia backstory so she's got talent, but in the podcast she sounded like she had no idea what the fuck was happening
I donât see her survive
Sofia is such a far cry from her role in How I Met Your Mother, she was lovely and wholesome in there while she's killing around people here. Goes to show her range, she does both of them perfectly
If you mean Lauren Lafranc then she's the showrunner not the producer
Maybe, she can be a seasonal villain or a background Batman one
Didnt know those were different đ
If Sofia does kill Francis, then Oz is out for blood. He will probably do worse than what he did to the Maronis.
I think she might but let's see
Showrunners are basically creators of a TV show who have a overall vision of the show, often times they also select various directors to direct a TV episode..
Producers are people who find money for the show or pitch a idea to a studio among others..
She does survive after Long Halloween and ends up being the main antagonist of Dark Victory, where she fakes being in the wheelchair.
I mean she has a crowbar which I believe is definitely gonna be used
Ya
Sheâs also one of the producers.
Makes sense
Showrunners usually tend to do both.
Ya but there are other producers as well
Oh yeah Sofia, thing I love bout her character is how she looks different each ep, like hairstyle and clothes
Really cool
Matt reeves is one of the producers too of this show
Yeah, she's sporting a short haircut this ep
Her black coat and silver earrings were fly af this ep
Ya and she's a interesting character.. in the pod they talk about how Eve talked about Sofia not being the hangman (like her father) and that probably saved her life
Was a tiny bit wack she was goin round town alone tho
Instead of having a small entourage of goons
I mean they probably were hidden
I was rather confident start of the season
That Oz's mom would get killed by Sofia
But after this ep not too sure
Like from a directional PoV, they ended it with a cliff hanger
Which typically don't follow through
Next episode is gonna be insane.. if you have seen the preview
Next episode will cover Penguinâs backstory.
Possibly
Im so ready to see Oz obliterate the Falcone-Maronis
Fuuuuuck yo wife n kid, Sal, you go join em
Gigantes*
Nah that was absolutely fucked up. Maronis are more honourable gangsters.
He backstabbed them before too, which Sal mentioned in the prison.
You have a romantic view of gangsters man, honorable doesnt mean theyre good people
I never said theyâre good people.
Like theyre honorable but that doesnt mean theyre actually honorable lol
Yeah but like, idk- being honorable is just so far in that "they dont eat their own" got a family unit
But theyd still do anything anyone else does
Like Nadia was planning to get her son and kill Oz anyway
It was either him or them, and he knew it
Because Oz betrayed them
Nope
He didnât have to sadistically burn them.
Yes he did
Only reason they didnt kill wanna kill him is cause they thought he'd be useful
For the bliss business
Among other things
And having an inside man with the Falcone
Like yeah they wanted to kill him cause he lied and kidnapped the son but
Ok whatever im not energetic enough
Point is you cant be honorable and a gangster at the same time, thats just not how it works lol
I think you have a black and white view of the world.
Youre the one giving that vibe
Not really
Who Vito Corleone was based on
Comparing Costello with Hitler is crazy
Like bad men or whatever are still people so theyll always have amicable things about them
But that isnt to say that their line of occupation allows for it
Youâre a Mongolian. Do you think Genghis Khan was pure evil?
How bout we dont bring up peoples' ethnicities as an argument
No. Not all gangsters are evil
There are gangsters who are more decent than a cop for example
Iâm not bringing your ethnicity. Iâm just asking you a question.
Ok donnie
The issue is you think all people who engage in crime have to necessarily be like Hitler or any evil person.
Idk man youre giving off this highschooler vibe to it all, you can watch more documenteries or other crime flicks like scorssese if you find it more digestable
The godfather thing is a good movie, but thats just what it is a movie
Its not remotely the same as reality
Forgot about movies. Iâm talking about IRL
Vito Corleone kind of gangsters cant exist
Cause the way it works just doesnt allow those kind of men to climb ranks
They literally did. I gave you Frank Costello as an example.
Vito Corleone was based on Costello.
No im saying if youre in an industry that exists outside public supervision and your revenue source is extortion, human trafficking etc.
Frank Costello didnât like using violence at all for example. It was more of a secondary option.
I like Oz cause I think he's cool but im not sayign he's beyond barbecequing a mother and son alive and shooting a guy point blank, I like Sal cause he gives off the old samurai vibe but he isnt beyond brutally murdering an old woman either
Yeah, her outfits are great. That golden dress was just perfection lol
Monke
Next episode will be crazy https://youtu.be/KjxtRfaQ2AI?si=pQSUkcxh7XgM2cJ2

@errant vault Shit I got some ideas with League of Shadows I wanted to bounce off you
hey woddup dude was at work earlier
lay it on me
Shit were hours ago hype died down a bit lol
But yeah one sec
i dont think vic will die
francis is more likely
since this episode had vic graduating into a real gangaster w him killing squid and the scene w oz explaining how it gets easier
so doubt theill just end him after that
btw eves scene w sofia was a perfect inversion of ozs killing of alberto
hell their even sitting in the same chairs
Whose that
ozs mom
Oh shut
Yeah
Btw the crowbar ending, and how oz found vic trynna steal his wheels
Is the same origin as red hood robin
They could adopt that into the Zaaz origin if they wanted
theres a scene in the trailers
that makes me doubt vic dies
also it might have spoiled how the next ep goes but ehhhhhhhh
Itâs chill yeah
Ok but yeah with the League shit woulda been kinda cool if like
In Nolan they were just dressed as generic ass goons we see in every movie
If they made em each more stylized like Mortal combats scorpion kinda cool would be dope
btw
But have each one unique, like theyâre all sporting a unique animal look; the movie goes in and peppered with flashbacks to Batman back in his training days; when theyâre all initiated or complete training or swear their oath or whatever, Ras asks them to decide an angel (spirit animal) and when itâs Bruceâs turn we got ominous music as he remembers that time he fell into the bat cave, and without saying it like visual story telling he picks a bat
So in the movie when heâs going up against other shadows, they all got like a unique vibe to them
Like you can hire a contortionist for The Serpent
The Mantis uses duel daggers
Shit like that
Maybe the wolf is like super aggressive and confrontational
And mid fight worth Batman
He roars âWe were brothers!â And Batman snarls back âWe were(past tense)â or solemnly whispers âI knowâŠâ some shit like that
So we have the aggressive one as the wolf, sly one as the serpent, etc. and the traitor, the bat
Interesting tidbit I found, the actor of Vic, Rhenzy Feliz was also a lead in a marvel show
Runaways
helluva glow up lol
shark
u cook
tho i think thatd fit the terrible trio more
since they literally had that typa origin the cartoon
got no idea what that is but we stan
meanwhile croc
they trained w bruce and got expelled for being evil and shit
in the animated series they were just a trio of rich pricks
thats some goofy ass fit they got
yea they aint exactly top tier bat villains
idk why ras would pick an animal tho
since his name literally means the head of the demon, so the league would probs just be demon themed
So you got animals, and he's the Demon
Yeah
Ok well demon masks work too
But I wanted to see em as ninjas n shit
Anyway new ep was good but
Cause of cliffhanger
thatd fit
Def one of the weaker ones for me
honestly i hope the talons are just the courts batmen
like high tech gear and sick masks
where the league are more like traditional ninjas
yeah
i think this ep was one of my favs
league, owls, joker uh, yeah thats about it- u can only have 1 of em
since theyre all like endgame threats
send it

yea i think hush is like top 2 most likely part 2 villains
ohhhh that batman show
i thought u meant the original
Haha, yeah his character is like his counterpart in the comics
Also, damn he is 27. I genuinely thought he is like in his early 20s
Cristin Miloti is 39, she looks early 30s to me haha
yeah goes for most actors playing lotta kids
like spider man's tom holland is a grown ass man and it still feels wack to me
yknow
thats the same age as Christian Bale's Patrick Bateman from American Psycho
btw
sorta nuts that the events of the batman and the penguin take place in the span of the same month
also
most of the events in this episode took place over the span of one day lol
w sofia and sal breaking in to ozs apartment to the end w sofia kidnapping vic and francis
the entire breaking bad series was like over a single yr
yea but like
i remember when don was surprised that the timespan from batman part 1 and 2 is like a month
since we know part 2 will pick up a week after the penguin ends
sofia gets out of prison after all these years
and immediately decides to fuck shit uo
bruh honestly the current events be making me wonder wtf is batman doing
like early on it made sense since the events mostly happened behind closed doors but like
bruh the falcones got erased and sal maroni escaped from prisoner
and a new drugs on the rise
i thought bro was in crown point dealing w shit but bruh
i mean its the same shit in every batman, things are always spiraling outta control lol
freeze trynna turn gotham into a snowglobe while killer croc out there eating kids, meantime penguins having a street war with black mask
2 years but yes
Matt Reeves said The Penguin takes place withing 5-6 weeks
bro imagine bruce jus chillin on a rooftop in crown point and seeing oz chilling w his mom
and he thinks
i mean i can see it
"would you look at that, the penguin turned a new leaf huh. Ig theres hope for all of us :>"
and then just leaves
we saw from first movie
he spends his time beating up squid level criminals
and lets the crimelords do their thing
lol
ik but like
youd thing hed snoop into this shit
like a whole crime family died and a crime lord escaped from prison
would been fucking hilarious if in middle of the gang war, batman shows up and starts assaulting squid of all people then leaves
bruh imagine if bat just jumped squid while hes with victor
cuz he thinks squid was assaulting vic
"Heyyy what's your name? Watchu up to kiddo?"
"I'm uh Vic Aguilar, gonna go meet my boss hehe"
"Ah Victor Aguilar, what a guy"
like bros prepping to shoot and turns around to see a 6 foot tall armored ninja furry man giving squid brain damage
i still got no idea what the fuck squid's plan was
he comes alone
and wants to blackmail an actual gangster
ig he assumed he could muscle his way into the operation
squid was a big fish in a small pond and thought he could go swim w the sharks
yeah that was stupid like ur not that guy man, but then he brought up the blackmail and i was like hm ok maybe
but then he wants to go in person alone like he's just gonna shoot u lmao
bro squid was dead the second he threw the money at vic
like we know Oz isn't exactly a big dog in the rackets
but he's still in an entirely different dimension to squid lol
i love how the criminals are doing their own parts rn
oz is slowly taking over the gangs meanwhile riddler and joker are cooking up plans to fuck over batman in arkham
also this episode made me change my mind on julian possibly being scarecrow
i just cant see scarecrow submitting to a dom lol
i was wondering what in the hell he was gonna do to help
i wanna join u sofia, dude ur a fucking retired nurse what u gonna do to help a crime family
oh their sentient dildo, ok
ig bros gonna help sofia torture oz?
bros unironicaly sofias side hoe
btw someone pointed out that vic is likely to die since they did a death in the family reference w the crowbar
but to that i argue that they also did a killing joke reference w sofia going to talk w eve
oh man
howd u feel bout that
eve selling out oz
for nothing
i was like ok sofia's gonna torture or threaten it outta here
oh wait no sofia's leavin ok
tells her anyway
like bitch what u do that 4 đ
i think she just felt betrayed that oz lied to her abt sofia being the hangman
and helping the real hangman thats been killing her girls
btw dude did you notice that during the breakfast scene at the apartment
francis calls oz rex
Did she know about the mom
Nope, but weâll see
Who Rex is, either the guy he planted the knife on
probably not
Or someone else important
the gangster oz idolizes
rex calabrese
nah i dont think so
I remember him as Rex, so was confused when Oz talked about a Rex when he was burning the car
Iâm gonna assume that Rex Calabrese was the same gangster Oz was talking about with Alberto
castillo was the henchmans name
rex calabrese was the gangster that oz idolized as a kid
so i think they implied that rex was also ozs dad this episode
maybe he was an abusive prick behind closed doors and a beloved nice guy on the streets
o nvmmmmm
ye nvm nvm rex wasnt ozs dad
francis had a episode when they were eating and argued w oz cuz she thought he was her husband
and she said that shed go to rex to get the heat back on
o btw someone pointed out that at the start
Probably sodomize Victor with it
when sofia dosent even like her own name as a insult
Mommas about to get TORTURED
its sorta ironic since oz hates his nickname
dude i think they are gonna electro shock ozs mom as payback for how sofia was electro shocked in arkham
and we might get scenes of her w her kids before she becomes braindead from it
also i think that they are gonna torture vic aswell tho that will probably just drive him insane
considering he just killed a guy, got told its alright by his father figure and is now getting tortured by sofia
how did his brothers die
they're milking the fuck out of that mystery and I hope they tell us
Next episode will be a flashback ep
o btw
heavy spoilers pointed outt hat since sal is out
after the shows done they could have the dent show focus on harveys involvement sals trial if he gets arrested again in the show
since sal was the guy that threw acid at dent which caused him to become two face
Yo that would be so fucking insane
Yeah they torture the poor old woman until sheâs in a vegetative state
And Oz puts her down in a sick poetic way of keeping his promise that should she ever turn out like that heâd euthanize her
That would make me sick to my stomach like Neganâs intro or Oberynâs death
Do it
i mean it would fit the reports that the series gets more fucked up over time
my favorite episodes so far:

Yea now that was my standout scene, it didnât go really at all how I expected it but Iâm glad because it was a really good scene and I loved what it did for both characters. The initial outcome of how that scene was gonna play out felt predetermined from the start but the way scene was written and preformed made it work so much better that way. Sophia probably had her mind made up that she was gonna kill Eve and Eve probably figured she was gonna die but they both played the situation perfectly and Sophia realized it didnât need to end that way. Sophia got a peak into what Eves life is like and got to be the bigger person and prove sheâs better than whatâs sheâs portrayed be. Eve bared it all to Sophia, faced her fear head on, got clarity on her situation with Oz and the part she played in it all.
When you living in the slums and that fast money starts running slow and drying up, seeing people eat where youâre supposed to be eating can start to make you desperate irrational.
The way he spoke and acted with Vic made him just come off not that bright
Low level street thug
Like what the other guy said, big fish in a little pond who thought he could swim with sharks
But your scene with Eve x Sofia, my thoughts that exactly
I was pleasantly surprised how Sofia spared Eve, but in a creative way that didn't feel contrived
Cause at first you imagine she'd kill her, which would be ok albeit generic, sparing her would have been contrived, but they managed to pull it off in a really neat way
Where Sofia's motives for her decisions made perfect sense for her character
Just read a theory that Rex is Ozâs father. The way his mom keeps mentioning him.
I hope that isnât the case
Rex was probably more like a father figure to Oz and his actual father mightâve been an abusive man who dumped the family.
Also, crazy if this actually happens.
Bruh imagine sal just losing his marbles while sofia just wide eyed staring
"Holy fuck the lunatic did it, SOFIA YOU SAID HE CARED FOR HER WTF IS THIS SOFIA"
if sofia fucking dares...
IF SOFIA FUCKING DARES...
(it's a canon event to almost every Penguin iteration, i'm delusional)
Bro
Idk wtf is oz gonna do to make me dislike him in ep 8
Mans abt to watch his mom get tortured and be forced to kill her
Idk what that is đ
Kingpin( Daredevil TV series) vs Carmine Falcone(Reevesverse). Who is the more powerful Don?
The Penguin finale: Oz reaches the
height of power in Gotham's criminal
underworld
Bat-signal: turns on
Penguin:
Kingpin
Just saw the Joker 2 movie
It really did kinda suck lowkey, but you saw how it coulda been amazing
Anyway aside from it sucking, it ironically ties in perfectly with Reeves Batman
Major Spoilers for the movie, like ultra spoiler:
|| In the end, Phoenix's Joker gets shanked and dies, the killer is some rando kid who starts dying maniacally and then in background you see him slicing his face- timeline and actor wise, you can write it off as the kid is the new Joker we see in the Reeves universe||
That would make no sense timeline wise tho
Idfk that movie was wack
The cinematography, the shots
The acting
All kino
Then the third act
Joker happened in the 80s
And it drops like a meteor
And bruce was a kid
So if that was berry keoghan joker in joker 2 which took place 2 years after joker
Hed be wayyyy older
Deep cope rn
You jus saw shit
It was all there man
If this was keoghans joker id fuckin cry lol
|| If he just stayed as Joker, made an asylum riot and blew up courthouse and ride off into sunset||
|| "Arthur gets The Joker raped out of him" who the fuck came up with this shit ||
||Imagine if the movie was abt arthur escaping arkham w the help of harley and a new guy he took under his wing||
||And the movie is the joker personal slowly returning as arthur is cut off from his meds as he causes chaos in the city||
Its a musical romance court room drama
You saw glimpses where Joaqin and Gaga could use their actual singing voices, as opposed to the amateur poor singing voices in most the movie
Woulda been nice if we saw their songs gradually go from beginner
And get better each song as movie goes on
And then the end we see them singing with their grammy level singing
The penguin saving wb rn
I wanna saw tho
I liked this Arkham
Reeves too
The 80s level low tech just for me feels like a good Gotham
Joker's 80s Gotham with Reeves vibe would be my sweet spot
I'm enjoying the penguin and this is not a real criticism but I do think it's funny how all these gangsters doing crimes aren't constantly looking over their shoulder in case batman is coming to beat them up
ngl this my only gripe with the show. itâs almost like batman doesnât exist despite him terrorizing all bad guys and penguin nearly dying to him
I liked the serious parts, then the music would come on
I like musical movies too but this movie had no business being one. Felt like it didnât work and was forced most of the time.
But it being like a dream sequence n shit
Was kind of lame
If he did this shit but it was real
It also felt like it wanted to be a musical but didnât at the same time.
idk didnât work for me but itâs whatever I didnât hate it as much as everyone else did
He didnt want them making actual good music, like Gaga obviously can sing a gorillion times better
And in the first GagaxJoker you saw how Phoenix could sing really well, for just like 1 or 2 lines lol
He sounded like Frank Sinatra
But they just had to make em sing like amateurs whispering
Which is fine at first but slowly make em sing better
|| The whole movie felt like it was him slowly bout to fall off the edge and turn into Joker for real fulltime, but then it all just stopped cause he got raped; like what the fuck Todd||
3:20 to 3:40
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyD2SS89g64&t
This scene is a little long which makes me worried about uploading it... Warner Bros. please don't assassinate mfdklafjdkslajklads (If you liked this scene please consider watching or purchasing the movie officially.)
i was gonna name this "Arthur's Crash Out" but i'm not cool enough
Those 20 seconds, so good; could see Joker as this like cultural phenomena, cult leader, head of a movement idfk
But nah lets just throw it all out, thanks Todd- real oscar shit right there
It being a musical was the worst part about it.
favorite scene in the whole movie
Also, Arthur shouldâve embraced being the Joker after getting SAâd and losing his friend. That Harley scene wouldâve been better if he actually killed her when she dumped him.
If only it couldâve been a serious courtroom drama
Yeah that ends bombastic
We had the liveshow drama in the first one
Then we get a courtroom one here
With some pseudo grimdark Shawshank Redemption B plot going on in Arkham
I found the scene where he tells Lee to stfu kinda hilariousđ.
She shouldâve stopped singing lmfao
It was annoying
Iâm curious about the untitled Batman saga series. https://x.com/culturecrave/status/1851381360742846557?s=46&t=_AWFhpIAIwbUeGd6RdGh0A
Didnt the JJ Abrams Superman movie get canned?
Also what the hell is a Jurassic League lol
Would be great if this is the intro to the Batman 2.
justice league made out of dinosaurs
yo i just saw a theory saying that julian is the mad hatter
proof? the trailer has a kettle boiling water and the next episode is called top hat
which yea penguin wears a top hat but so does the mad hatter
SPOILERS
Thought Iâd rip off the bandaid innit
Is Ep 7 the best episode?
"damn oz.... i- i-m i- im no- im not sure i can go through with that. Im sorry"
victor 20 minutes later after finding out its either "him or them"
NEED the DCU Batman to fight like this please
Agreed
Looks like my prediction came true. ||Oz was responsible for his brothersâ deaths.||
Awesome episode loved his backstory
Heâs such a fucking asshole đ€Ł
Little bro killed his brothers just so he could have his moms love all to himself
The scene where heâs watching the black and white video is gold fantastic juxtaposition
there's way too much happening in gotham for batman being no where to be found. notorious mafia family all die by gas, bliss being distributed in all parts of gotham, and now an explosion in crown point.. WHERE IS BATMAN
in my head canon he's just resting after the riddler blasted him in the torso with a shotgun point blank and helping with rescue efforts but its been way too long đ
I had that feeling too. Seem like anytime they were mentioned he got irritated.
Fantastic 7th episode. So Oz did kill his brothers and never told his Mom about it and so for Francis, her two children went to someplace and never came back. Btw the actress who played Young Francis did a really good job.
Sal is dead and ya Sofia is thinking out of the box, sending that car bomb, she knew it was a trap. Don't know where Vic is, i guess gathering an army.
Final is already here and I get people saying Where's Batman but I feel like we don't need Batman, the show is about Penguin and this is gangland warfare that's happening.. Why would Batman intervene when two gangs are fighting each other??
Batman I believe is doing work behind the scenes but he doesn't need to be directly involved or show up in the show. Reeves himself said that they couldn't find a part for Batman in this show as that would cause a total distraction and I agree.
Yeah the moment Batman shows up it wouldn't be a Penguin show anymore, though we might see a glimpse of him in the finale as the show would have ended by then
As for the episode, crazy. Oz killing his own brothers was low, even for him.
The car bomb really had me on my toes when he was unveiling the coat
Also, same reaction lol
Did he intentionally ||kill his brothers?||
The vibe I got was that he didn't
Not like a 10yr old or whatever was gonna || predict death by rainfall ||
Hmm, either way why is he such a sociopath how was he made that way?
Those seemed like great brothers to be honest, especially the older one. He even offered to do to come up after he realized his mistake
"Impulsive at first, then intentionally left them as he realized what was happening"
Ya, I don't think Oz deliberately killed his brothers... he was angry, shut down the door not knowing the rainfall would kill them..
Where does it say that?? But I would say he wasn't too grief stricken about his brothers
I got mad Oedipus-freud vibes from young Oz and his mom lol
There was a comment on YT that said thats what the BTS said, so take it with a grain of salt
Another one pointed out he was constantly glaring at the rain which was a visual que that he knew what was going on
"I want to be free." A new episode of the HBO Original Limited Series #ThePenguin is now streaming on Max.

OK I'm watching this now
And I noticed in that BnW movie they were watching, Oz was paying attention to the tap dance/feet of the guy, elluding to his insecurities
Appearently Colin Ferral was only on set for a brief time, being the biggest name he had the most scheduling issues- so all the scenes without Oz were shot like months after Colin left
yeah, it was weird
So ya in inside the episode.. the showrunner says Oz doesn't actively kill his two brothers but he had every opportunity to prevent that from happening and I guess when he was with his mom alone watching a movie he looks back and sees rainfall as well
The child actor in the BTS giving decent character study lmao
Ok I don't want this to go the wrong way but: I'm a little worried HBO might pull an Alicent Hightower with Sofia, wherein she basically just drops all her villainy and rides off into the sunset cause she wants "freedom" only because she's a woman
The small scene in the episode of her going back instead of sticking to her arc, and also the Lauren Defranc's inputs kind of made me worried
But we'll see I guess
I mean that could happen
The story of an innocent woman who was framed and then turned into the monster that everyone accused them of, is a very sick and tragic backstory. It'd be alot richer and three dimensional if she were to meet a grim end imo.
But she wants revenge on Oz as well, so maybe if she killed Oz then she could leave it all behind but I doubt that
There wasn't a top hat this episode lol
"0/10, no top hats, false advertising"
exactly!
Are we even gonna see Penguin wear a Top Hat?? Certainly not a monocle
Imagine he pulls out an umbrella gun in the finale lmao
That'd be wild đ
Honestly, I really enjoyed this episode. Think it was a step up from the last couple imo
The fur coat is a little on the nose, I really didnt mind the leather one he wore. Like that scene when he was sitting over Vic burying the bodies- really fit the character
Na, I'm not saying he needs to be a part of the show. But the show takes place in real time so I'm just wondering where's Batman
I wanted some batman mentions tbh
Real wet work, vile, "my job is to get rid of bodies" vibe
If I recall this all happened in like a couple weeks after the Batman movie iirc
Oz building this empire only to realize he's gonna get his shit shut down in a night
The first few episodes were over like a few days, then the time skip was 10 days
The show is about The Penguin not Batman and if Penguin becomes new kingpin of Gotham then Batman will definitely get involved in the second movie
If the Batman villians were smart they'd just move to other countries
Or states at least
I hope there isn't a season 2, the studio might be like "oh hey this makes money, make a god damn other season motherfucker"
I hope there is
Like a Harvey or whatever series after this
they'll do other limited series
Nah Id want Penguin's story to wrap up, and the next season is called "Two Face" or some shit idk
If they milk it or intentionally make up stories because they had to, the writing will necessarily be inferior
With new DCU Batman coming.. I don't know if WB will allow many other limited series from the Reeves universe
I would absolutely love a Harvey dent limited series where he descends into madness.. Oz could be new kingpin then
Eh we'll see about the new Batman, Reeves' Neo-Noir setting for Batman has a special interest for me
Not really too keen on a more campy and bombastic batman
I'm keen on both.. I want Batman to interact with other superheroes as well
they'll probably do a series for hush or w/e villian he is
Yeah but I feel like a low stakes, personal stake etc. fits better for Batman- where he's up against serial killers, mobsters etc.
Yeah I know but there's just things that's happened that he wouldn't typically ignore based off his actions in the first movie. That's why I mentioned the head canon that he's probably injured/resting.
When you introduce other heroes with super powers, it gets kind of wild
Like I Batman fighting doomsday in BvS wasnt it
Fair but I think he's also just gathering info on what's happening right now and see where it goes. Again two gangs are fighting each other and Batman doesn't think he needs to intervene imo.
the animated series shows you can do both
Yes plus Batman has fantastical villains too that can't appear in Reeves grounded universe which will happen in DCU
I want the batman films to have more personal stakes, him chasing the riddler around and it just being a detective story wasn't that compelling for me personally
So Sal died of a heart attack ?
yeah, pretty sure
Don't know what he was.. maybe he wore a pacemaker and the electric stuff interfered with that..
it's brought up in the bts, it's from his outburst of emotion. All the rage and anguish
tbh I liked that the most
I like how Reeves Batman showed the detective side of Batman something the Nolan films didn't show too much of
I think it's dope they want to show the dectective side, I just want more from the movie than that. The nolan movies were more compelling
But there's plenty of Batman material to pull from that's even more compelling
I thought he burst his liver or something from the stab wound he got earlier, but yeah they said it was a heart attack
You don't die suddenly like that from a liver wound
There is. It also seems like not many writers/directors want to take risks in adapting other Batman material. Every Batman live-action adaptation is just Year One or The Long Halloween Batman
Yeah, but I wanna remain optimistic

Another great episode. It seems like Oz was an evil piece of shit even as a child. Some people say he didnât want his brothers to die, yet he closed the door when they called out for help, lied to his mother that they went to the movies, and it was hinted from the start that he was jealous of the preferential treatment his mother gave his brothers.
Also Oz playing mind games with Sal lmfao. He already won.
In my opinion, this was the best scene in the episode. Penguin was like Jose Mourinho, the infamous football manager obsessed with winning at any cost and considered a master of the dark art in the sport. He ended Falcones and Maronis.
With the way things are going, I donât see Sofia kill Francis. Itâs gonna be Oz and finally he will be a heartless monster who doesnât have anything holding him back.
Oz got the mother complex badly
Yes, Oedipus complex.
Don't know if I would call it Oedipus since that originally revolves around a son killing his father and...yk the rest
I hope the final episode is at least an hour.
The psychologist freud came up with a syndrome called that to justify why he wanted to fuck his mom lmao
The savage
I was so uncomfortable with their flashbacks lol
Itâs what the complex is called.
I know that lol
I love the accents the director made em do, over the top jersey accent "aye cowhm heyar ahzwaald"
Are you an expert in this field?
I am woyking heah
fawget abowwt iiid
I mean if you read Freud, itâs pretty obvious Oz is suffering from Oedipus Complex.
Instead of his father, its his brothers
was hopin youd spurg out ngl lol
Also had his brothers killed because he was salty his mom loved them more, I assume.
Bro really wanted the kill
Oz and I have alot in common we both wanna fuck his mom
Yeah, kind of surprised with the line up though
The first few eps moved at a decent pace
These last couple things went by quite fast
And there's still quite a bit left to resolve, with only one more ep
Imagine if Batman wanted Oz to be the boss and heâs doing jackshitđ
Both Falcones and Maronis are gone
I love Lauren LeFranc's absolute barbarism writing gendered characters:
Sofia(Female):
-Hot
-Misunderstood
-Badass
-Girlboss
Oz(Male):
-Fat
-Ugly
-Crippled
-Wants to fuck his mom
-Fratricidal
-Fucking bald
Bro at first glance, I thought he was Jason Schwartzmann
Calabrese doesnât seem like the person Oz described initially.
Couldâve been another evil mobster like Falcone, but small time.
I expected Rex to be fat and old, idk why
As opposed to good mobsters lmao
Never change donnie
I never said mobsters are good. Itâs just that Falcone was a very evil man and not someone nuanced.
youre right, youre so smart donnie
You seem to think you are though.
Always loses an argument and never admits his mistake. Thatâs your issue.
âMuh there is only good and evil in this world.â
you cant just fail to change ur opinion and say "i won" lol
yOu CaNt JuSt FaIl To ChAnGe Ur OpInIoN
You know what I said, but you intentionally misinterpreted my statement lol.
You did. I never said mobsters are good and no you didnât point out anything.
thats what I mean, if youre convinced you cant be wrong, then its always gonna come across like you won

imagine the other dudes coming in and seeing this in chat lmao
love u donnie never change
Lmfao youâre the wrong one though. âThere are only good and evil in this world, just accept itâ. You donât know how the real world works, kid.
âYou canât comprehendâ
The irony when you misinterpreted my statement
And now youâre backtracking
Nah man, youre just idk
Its a dumb argument anyway not really important but like
Vito or whatever, theyre not real people
Good lord who brought up Vito?
Asking if a crime lord would be above killing an old woman is a little redundant
Arguing with a chump like you isnât important
You did earlier
Idk was the crux
Idk what to tell you donnie, youre the only guy that gets into arguments consistently lol
Usually always devolves into shit flinging too
No youâre the one who provokes
Itâs not easy to have a decent discussion with people like you
Whatâs funny is that you believe gangsters like Vito didnât exist even though he was based on a real life gangsterđ. But you donât admit your mistake.
Cause he wasnt
Its a movie
Just cause theyre inspired by them for screen
Doesnt mean thats actually how they were irl
Even in the movie you understand he's someone that kills innocent people for money
Its just he does it in a more dignified way
You can try scorcesse movies which tend to be a bit more accurate, but even then their real counterparts were alot darker
Thing is he wasnât just a mere inspiration. I already mentioned Frank Costello, but you never did your research. You think all criminals are very evil and there is no complexity.
and less glamerous
no my point is that there is complexity
Iâm not talking about movies. Maybe try reading upon actual gangsters.
being an "honorable" gangster doesnt mean hes beyondf doing bad things lol
Mobsters like Vito existed, itâs just that it was uncommon.
like idk, they can seem nice but ultimately with how dawrinian the "industry" is its not something that facilitates the characters
you wanna describe
idk what ur trynna say
im saying the mob world due to what niche they occupy, are particularly darwinian in that they promote cruelty and criminality
âBut ultimately with how darwinian the âindustryâ isâ
Just asking whether you think itâs the only industry thatâs darwinian.
You think legal business do not have cruelty and criminality.
whereas with mobsters its an industry that arises in an area with a lack of oversight, and being financially driven it means it weens out the less lucrative ventures
which includes the inability to retain the source of revenue
this is all to say that you cant really succeed as a gangster if you have lines that you wouldnt cross, cause structurally thats how its designed
and the less oversight there is, the more it perpetuates
atleast in scale
You wouldnât succeed in any business, if you donât cross the line.
im not saying legal actors are moral as opposed to gangster
Just telling from my experience as someone who works in business field. Itâs a nasty world out there.
im saying there are variables in everything but gangsters in particular occupy cruelty by design, its like how if youre an engineer
the engineering industries by design ween out those who cant practice math
and gangsters dont exist without being cruel
and youre not going to exist long in that profession if you have some moral principles, much less a hegemon like a boss
like urban mafias in the us were all fundamentally protection rackets, which mean necessarily means they need to approach shopkeepers or managers and intimidate or harass them
even if they have tertiary businesses
like your whole job is to go find some poor guy selling oranges and break his legs, if youre unable to do that youre just not going to be a gangster to begin with
and then it ramps up when you need to compete with rival crews
so if youre already successful in the business of being a gangster, say a boss or capo- it just means you had to have been some guy whose already murdered innocent people, typically in a really theatric and gruesome manner, which then means youre not someone with moral scruples
its not cause "gangsters = evil" its moreso how gangs as an industry are designed
like there isnt a rule that says athletes cant be fat, but just due to how the athletics industry works and what they require of its participants 99% of athletes arent overweight
similarly with gangsters, it just internally promotes those with underlying psychopathy
And do you admit itâs the same with business in general? https://bigthink.com/leadership/corporate-psychopath-ceo/
Sure, but business men aren't going around killing people with their bare hands lol
Business men do hire people to do that.
But not common amongst small scale businessmen
Miltiary officers, intelligence agencies, more aggressive company management etc. all promote that kind of behavior
Whereas in big corporates, thatâs a different story
To varying degrees
But gangsters are different in that they explicitly promote it as their primary characteristic
The thing whatâs intimidating about big tycoons is that they donât have to necessarily have people murdered if theyâre crossed. Thatâs usually the last resort. Itâs the manipulation via psychological means.
Theyâre so powerful, people dare to cross them. Whereas gangsters have to kill in order to be feared. Like you said itâs the primary characteristic in their line of business.
Were getting too off topic for a fucking "the penguin" channel lol
It happens
I didnât mean to go off topic, but I am fascinated by the similarities between legitimate and illegitimate business.
oz killed his brothers wtf
yeah a giant ass explosion is kinda where i begin to go now wondering where da batman is
eepy bat
no way we dont seee batman after this
a whole city block got blown up
we probably wont but man no way he wont have this on his radar
also is there 1 episode or 3 left?
Do you guys think Mrs. Cobb is aware that Oz was involved in her other sonsâ deaths?
That has been made clear by the showrunner unless sheâs messing with us.
No Batman
But there should be a hint if heâs involved or not
im assuming penguin will be left semi open and will be continued in the movie
1
lol he 100% knew it would kill them
Just watch the after show thing
They make it pretty clear that what he did was intentional I think his little smile when heâs watching TV w mom gives it away he had MULTIPLE opportunities to save them and chose not to
And I donât buy that lol
If you lock someone in a room with pouring water sure you didnât actively kill them but you absolutely caused their death
The only thing that pissed me off was how contrived and easy it was for Maroni to have a heart attack but I think Oz getting mega fucked by that bomb sorta puts that concern to rest
It wouldâve been different if he had a change of heart went back and couldnât get the door to open but nah heâs an evil little shit thereâs no debating it
Yeah, the Penguin, whether in the comics or in live action currently, isnât a sympathetic character anymore. I like that they made him a proper villain.
Apparently, the crew on the set of episode 8 were incredibly astounded by his actions in the end.
Gonna be one hell of an episode
Yeah the heart attack really was just like a, deus ex machina feeling but I do like how they made Oz respond to it being like âletâs fucking go I killed himmmmâ mate didnât do shit, he got lucky, but heâll never admit that
Reminds me how he reacted like tough shit as Carmine was being arrested and taken away in the film
Dude is a coward too.
Couldâve yelled, âthereâs a bombâ, but instead just ran away alone.
Also Penguin parrots the same âbig manâ dialogue in this scene. A senior citizen was beating his ass
ok
just saw it
peak
i dont think oz killed them on purpose
like aint no way dude somehow predicted the rain would flood the sewers or would even know how much water the sewer could take
i think he was jealous of his brothers and probably just wanted one night to be with francis
also in episode 5 we see him come accross the same door and he freezes for a second and looks regretful before carrying on
He obviously did lmao
He saw how much it was raining
Lied to his mother about their whereabouts
And actively chose not to save him
Again
It wouldâve been different had he tried to open the door and wasnât able to or something
But he wanted mamas love all to himself
i do think he regrets it atleast
I think he does yeah
I wonder what Oz does that makes him "irredeemable" or shocking
Kills: Eve, Sofia, Vic, Francis
I can already seeing him doing those lol
Maybe Sofia's niece?
Killing his own brothers was already crossing the line đ
this episode was basically just the death nail in oz being likable
bro fr drowned his brothers
shot up a corpse to get bragging rights
abandoned his men to get blown up after going on and on abt how hell treat em better than the falcones and maronis
he killed his own brothers, what the fuck man lmao
"ah classic oz, what a guy"
"eh he looked like he felt sorry for a 2 sec shot, shit happens"
honestly his mom saying hes getting more handsomer with age during the flashback was a fuckin devious comment considering him rn
imagine if they gave the kid prosthetics "aight kid now just wear this plastic nose"
male pattern baldness at 11 is rough đ
poor benny, even their mom forgot about him
"where's jack!?!?!"
"what bout little benny"
"oh yeah him too ig"
idk all over the place ig, the lore kinda got messed up
cause of the original jonah hill casting
oz was meant to be younger, like batman and riddler
meh oz always fit as older than the rest
i think Oz is supposed to be like 44
cause its in 2022
and the flashback was like 1988
if he was like idk 10yrs old in '88
he'd be 44 in show
ig
i mean he had full head of hair
then
jonah's penguin woulda been 34-ish if he played him, so like sofia's penguin age
and colin's penguin is a little older
bro imagine if the show ends w oz winning
hes looking over gotham from the newly rebuilt iceberg lounge
and bros enjoying the vibe
and suddenly the bat signal just turns on
and he goes
idk originally batman was kind of old too, like comics and the original cartoon he was like mid 40s atleast- with riddler and co. being a little younger
freeze, penguin etc. were always about his age maybe
"ah fu-" end screen
it was the movies that made him younger like bale and pattinson
but yeah i dont really give a fuck bout the ages too lol
i always saw bruce starting out as batman in his 20s
its only some specific ones like Ras, Strange that i cant see a young actor
playing them
yk
w the final ep coming next month
i think imma go rewatch the movie and episodes during the weekend
along w the riddler comic, to get the full experience
yea typo
it can work, prime batman in 20 years when he's mid 40s
colin's penguin would be like mid 60s by then
crown point blows up killing dozens of people
battinson:
"hey batman, remember that carmine dude you were chasing relentlessly the whole time? yeah his entire family and empire got gassed to death"
"hey bruce so uh a crime lord escaped prison and his wife and kid were found burned to death w some apparent drugs missing"
bruce: "drugs, murders, burnings. All on the rise, i go into the night trying to make a difference, im not sure that difference will ever be made. The element, ever evolving awaits me to fall. But i will rise above it, i will save gotham no matter what."
"a crime lord you say?"
"yknow the maroni dude... the guy you think mighta killed your parents..."
imagine bruce just hears some real shit has happened
and he just goes into the bat cave to write abt it and then go out to beat the shit outta drop dealers on the other part of the city
honestly i hope part 2 shows wtf batman is doing
like my head canon to save his reputation rn is that hes sleeping
"As you can see Alfred, the explosion was in daytime. I am Batman not Pigeonman."
i mean to be fair
bruce would not have heard the explosion
and hes probs munching on some berries that alfred picked for him
As if tiktok doesnt exist in this world
imagine bruce just has a monitor in the bat cave blasting tiktok shorts to see whats going on in the city
"the pop culture.... i must keep my hand on its pulse before it leaves me behind, the element can appear anywhere, anytime, i must... be ready"
bruce says while watching some random gothamite playing w her cat while the explosions going off
they did this in john wick too, first movie cops showed up and covered for him
to show that the assassins can do their stuff in secret underground etc.
then fast forward theyre having ww2 fast and furious out in public and no one shows up lol
i just realized sum
Ye
ozs idol died from a heart attack and inspired oz to become a gangster
I think
besides the first episode
and sal died from a heart attack this episode
Rex Calabrese "gimme a fish"
also something interesting
rex isnt at all what oz described him as
hell rex didnt even give a fuck abt oz when oz said hi to him
|| Episode 8 leaks, another flashback where Oz killed Rex in secret ||
Sorry for spoilers yall

|| Rex went to police station, one thing was for sure. He didnt go in there for lunch ||
||sally bugs smh||
99% certain the doctor doesn't exist and he's a figment of Sofia's imagination
Robert Pattinsonâs Batman all 7 episodes of The Penguin so far:
This idiot didnât watch the movie properly. Only low level criminals were afraid of Batman. https://fxtwitter.com/therealsupes/status/1853407008071844226?s=46&t=_AWFhpIAIwbUeGd6RdGh0A
You could argue Penguin found him scary after the car chase, but top tier criminals like Falcone didnât take him seriously.
This dude reviews superhero movies for a livingđ
Girl, literally one week previously Batman beat up all his guys at the Iceberg Lounge, blew up his car on the freeway and left him tied up
You donât think thatâd make an impression on Oz?
The person said âcriminalsâ. I mentioned in the sentence above that Oz would find him scary after the car chase incident.
In the movie, not everybody feared him. Heâs barely experienced and people like Falcone didnât take him seriously.
Donnie, Rubes called you girl, arent you gonna defend your masculinity

You were supposed to destroy them Don, show em what a big man you are
I really donât understand why she addresses like that
There was this really cool Scarecrow pitch that basically went like this:
Jonathon Crane was born to an abusive alcoholic single father who failed at becoming a priest/pastor
And raised his son on their family farm on the outskirts of Gotham
His most common form of abuse was strapping young Jonathon to the scarecrow posts to show him what Jesus went through
This resulted in a very traumatic core memory for jonathon
The fear toxin can be of either two things:
-
he left home after his fathers death to pursue his studies, particularly in chemistry and he ended up making the toxin
-
He stayed and he accidentally created the toxin by tinkering with the veterinary or insecticide chemicals for his farm
Anyway fast forward to modern times heâs a serial killer who crucifies victims in the cornfield and laces them with the toxin before leaving them to die from exposure, essentially leaving them to scream in terror in the distance as they die
The imagery is really cool
i still wouldnt say that oz is afraid of him
like he seemed pretty chill when he first met batman, hell he even called him sweetheart
Jesus Christ
Do you guys think Oz meant to do it, or do you think he was expecting them to find some way out?
i think he did it out of impulse at first
#thebatman #thepenguin
was a little worried when he didnt come back
and then just forgot abt em in favor of chilling w his mom
Revealing or acknowledging it, brings guilt too
Kids are like that
The naughty ones
Prob but felt good in the moment
since in episode 5 we see a small scene when he sees the door and he freezes and looks down
btw episode 5 sets up how oz beats the maronis w the faulty electricity and the box
I just love Oz
Find him highly relatable
Victor too
Usually shows mess up characters like Victor but they did him solid here
Great direction and writing and production in general
i love how instead of getting pissed about victor getting caught out by sofia he urges him to get out
like oz might be a evil piece of shit but he still has signs of humanity
Yeah it feels a lot more authentic
Much more realistic
Than some black/white moral easy bs
honestly
i think he might even have humanity if his mom dies
cuz bro has clearly shown care for other people
Yh heâs a piece of shit but a lovable piece of shit
like when he gave money to selina on his own and was worried abt her working in the 44 below
also when he went for a drink when vic left
You reckon
o yea
David Zaslav is my uncle
Thereâs ways but theyâre often very convoluted
What did yâall think of Ozâs backstory? Itâs the thing I wasnât too sure of
It felt very ordinary, almost a bit random
But itâs grown on me
Yeah was glad with it, very glad it wasnât the whole episode
i think it revealed allot
And just a bit of it
like his love for his mom runs deeper than we thought
Yeah childhood shows a lot about people
also the fact rex basically didnt give a shit about him and wasnt at all who oz told us he was
Itâs so important that psychologists use it in therapy
I think this is the most interesting part
Yh that shit was hilarious
Oz killing his brothers is kinda boring
But doing it to be his mumâs fav is great
i think the oz killing his brothers bit is the most interesting part for me since im not sure how he felt about it
did he mean it or did he just assume they would escape
He wanted to be depended on like his older brother
But obvs he couldnât cause of his disability
cuz like he showed worry when they werent coming back
i think top hat the movie might have foreshadowd the finale
w the gangster dancing and miming gunning down people
imagine if oz just pulls out a umbrella gun and starts blasting
also i love how they reworked ozs og comic book origin into this
I just want sofia to die
since in the comics the reason he uses an umbrella was cuz his mom insisted he carry one cuz his dad died of pneumonia
from a storm
so i think its sorta cool that he uses one in the batverse cuz of the fact he basically used the rain to kill his brothers
also i love how ozs backstory is the literal polar opposite of vics
where vic lost his family cuz of a man made disaster w the flood and he had no way to save them cuz he was outside and they were at home
oz let his brothers drown in a rainstorm cuz he wanted to go relax at home w mom
I have been begging for centuries to see a Penguin use the umbrella gun in live action
Oh my god I'd kill for that
Yh its poetic in a way
Whatâs boring about it?
Itâs an extremely morally complex momment
Letâs not overstate things
Extremely morally complex is a big statement
Itâs fine
Because we donât even know if he intended to do that in the beginning, he could have simply been trying to fuck with them
He kept looking back at the window, as if he expected them to come back
But as the night went onâŠ.
Yeah itâs fine
Itâs a lot better than fine, itâs brilliant
The whole idea around it being the fact that he over projects his feelings because of his insecurities.
Itâs a troubled kid doing something terrible and choosing to stay quiet instead of facing the consequences
Itâs decent
Itâs not anything radical
Itâs a tropey origin
So Agathaâs better?
Ight
