What are some of the plot devices you love, or hate, or have a love/hate relationship with?

I have a love/hate relationship with Deus Ex Machina

Don't really count MacGuffin as a plot device

I like diabolus ex machina even tho it's often objectively bad writing

it's just fun to see things go wrong for main characters due to bad luck or forced sequence of events, especially if the movie is bad and protagonists are annoying
