#breaking the 4th wall -opinions?

like everything, its a tool that can be used well or poorly. when 4th wall breaks are good, i do especially like them because its such a powerful counter to the usual goal of suspension of disbelief.
theres a bunch of good movies with 4th wall breaks but most are the kinda whatever type fo break where the character says a line straight to the audience. those are ok, but the really juicy kind is stuff like Bergman does in Persona
"NO MONEY MEANS, NO ANIMATION"
I tend to nearly always find it a lot of fun
I think, if it helps a story, whether that means it helps explain the world, character(s), whatever it is a little more, and done well, it can be good. Ferris Bueller, the few times it did it, did it well. It makes the audience understand the character a little more, his motives, explains kind of what happens that has led him to this point, understanding his thoughts, and so on. It makes the audience have what feels like somewhat of a connection with him already, and so that helps it go along
