I wasn’t let down. I love both movies, not sure what to rate this one though. I think the first is better. The animation is way better though in this. Miles and Gwen relationship is also really good. The movie had a ton of Easter eggs. The pacing I think is my only criticism. Everything else is great.

It’s supposed to be left like that most likely. I doubt the intention was actually to get people talking about this teenage character’s genitalia. It doesn’t matter if she is or isn’t trans in canon because I doubt they’ll ever confirm it. It’s just an allegory and has multiple nods toward it to push the audience on the right track

If anything, the thing to take away is the fact that you can’t definitively say if she’s trans or not is progressive and helpful enough because it can help people realize there’s no difference

One of the frames that’s of concern to UAE censors is a ‘protect trans lives’ poster in the background of one scene. It’s our understanding that Sony wasn’t expecting a release of Spider-Verse in the UAE given their rigorous censorship process for kids movies.

Watched it yesterday, I think it's visually stunning, I knew before hand it would end in cliffhanger I just hoped it would close some important character and plot threads for the film before doing the cliffhanger, this one felt kind of...episodic, which is not exactly good for a movie. Think of Empire Strikes Back, they closed some threads they could and then let some others open for the next film.

But overall I really like the story and the setup for the next film so it kind of balances out.

Btw huge gasp at the theatre when "To Be Continued" showed up.

For all we know, the lead animator, animation director, or environment artist in charge of Gwen is trans or is an ally, and the directors used that to tell a deeper story where it could be seen as an allegory. Spider-Man in general always had the power to engage people to think of the self/other self and the Other, in multiple form such as LGBTQ+, racism, or simply being a teenager with everything changing… if anything, the whole film is a returning to the roots of the character by using very important commonality between the multiple iterations, while also highlighting the differences of the individual Spiders. I love a film that gets deeper with time.

Likely part nostalgia and part i didnt like certain things about ATS-V. For one im not a fan of the cliffhanger. People may like it, i dont, it didnt feel like a complete film look at infinity war thats a cliffhanger for endgame but its in itself a complete film with a start a middle and an end. Across the spider-verse felt like it had a beggining, half a middle and then cut off saying "ooooh you can get the rest next time!"

That is one of my main gripes with the film. I still like it and wouldnt put it bellow B teir but i just enjoyed spider-man 3 more as well as the characters in spider-man 3. Only characters in ATS-V i found myself caring about was peter, miles, gwen and kind of the spot. Unlike Spider-man 3 where i enjoyed every character i saw from start to end.

Thats just me. Still liked the movie but i do think its been over hyped and nowhere near as good as into the spider-verse
