im so confused with all these part b's when it says force exerted on the pulley. i get everything apart from the angle, like why dont we just use 30 degrees when doing cosine rule

the string is exerting the tension force both ways from the pulley, one is at 30 degrees from the ground and the other is straight down
you should find horizontal and vertical components of each force and add them together to get the resultant

u could do this by breaking down into horizontal and vertical component then adding em up and then taking the resultant of that vector too... like Imoakley said but i think this is just easier ig
