how about connecting the point where the smaller square touches the circle to the bottom right corner of the biggest square @rustic pebble

I solved it
The center of the square to the bottom left is r+r*sqrt(2)
since you can form a square with the radi as the sides
and since its a square, just set the expression equal to 12 sqrt(2)
and then you have the radius
then you can find the area from there
