you have the hypotenuse and have the ankhatete (sorry for the german names)
with the cosinus you calculate the relationship between them so what you write down would be:
cos(0 greek letter) * x

and while I am at it:
all formulas for that would be:
sin(0 greek letter) = y/r
cos(0 greek letter)= x/r
tan(0 greek letter)= y/x
