You could use sine and cosine laws in a right angled triangle. Keep in mind that the hypothenuse is the same in both laws.
I could, but i won't. You'll have to figure it out yourself. Otherwise you won't have learned anything.
For the second part, keep in mind that two parallel lines are crossed by a third one. You probably have seen what this means for the angles.

Some things to note: given what we are told about the triangle (that sin(y) = cos(x)) we can make the observation that these triangles are similar
We can re-draw the smaller triangle to see that sin(y) and cos(x) represent the same sides relative of the pair, and since they are equal than they must be similar
This is the key to the first half of the question. The second half is understanding notation
