if i rewrite this as 1 - sin^4x/cos^4x (since they have common denominators) would that be the answer? or can this be further simplified?
you can use difference of squars on 1 - sin^4 x, then use that 1 - sin^2 x = cos^2 x to simplify
alternatively you can just use difference of squares on the original sec^4 x - tan^4 x which does the same simplification in less steps
What could i do now?

sec⁴ - tan⁴
= (sec² + tan²)(sec² - tan²)
use sec² = 1 + tan²
= (sec² + tan²)(1 + tan² - tan²)
= sec² + tan²
= 1 + tan² + tan²
= 1 + 2 tan²
