Then how do u simplify the numerator

  1. 1/2 is equivalent to x/(2x).
  2. Because of that, you may replace 1/2 in the numerator with x/(2x).
  3. Now the numerator reads x/(2x) - 1/(2x).
  4. x/(2x) - 1/(2x) is equal to (x-1)/(2x).

There is something to say about the equivalence between 1/2 and x/(2x) being conditional on x not being 0, but I claim you can ignore this for the purposes of evaluating the limit (more details if you want)
