The notation "1/2x" grinds my gears because of this

Oh I said something but you didn't really respond to it so I didn't say anything more
The common denominator in the title would be 2x
No the top would not be 2x-2/2x (I presume you mean (2x-2)/2x. Not that either)
Then how do u simplify the numerator
- 1/2 is equivalent to x/(2x).
- Because of that, you may replace 1/2 in the numerator with x/(2x).
- Now the numerator reads x/(2x) - 1/(2x).
- x/(2x) - 1/(2x) is equal to (x-1)/(2x).
There is something to say about the equivalence between 1/2 and x/(2x) being conditional on x not being 0, but I claim you can ignore this for the purposes of evaluating the limit (more details if you want)
