foil method stands for F.irst, O.utside I.nside, and L.ast when you are multiplying binomials

#

so like (x+2)(x+1), the two Xs are the firsts, 2x and 1x are the outsides and 1 and 2 are the lasts.

so you would first multiply the firsts (x times x = x^2), then the add the outside insides (2x + 1x = 3x), and multiply the lasts (1 times 2 = 2)
