#Sum of (n+1)^2 numbers

Hello. I was checking university notes of my roomate and I saw this equation but it didnt make any sense to me. How can (n+1)^2 can be equal to (n+1)*(n+2) / 2.

I tried n= 5 as a example it is not right for n=5. Am I missing something here.

I know 1+2+3+ ... +n = n*(n+1) / 2

it would make sense if it was 1 + 2 + 3 + … + (n+1), but not (n+1)^2

but the problem is (n+1)^2 is cant be opened as n(n+1)
