errm
precisely
the little i forgot the name , the numebr next to the square root
is the denominator
sqrt is 2 cube root is 3 etc etc
so sqrt of x is x^(1/2)
cube root of x is x^(1/3)
so on and so forth
so x^8 would become 8/3 and then 4/3
the coefficient isnt immune from the square and cube roots either right?
it's going to be whateverr umm
5^(1/3*1/6)x^(8*1/3*1/6)
whatever that comes out to
ok sounds good
i'm gonna check the answer sheet quickly to see if i got it
ok yeah i did
thank you so much
i'm gonna depart now lol

$\sum\frac{k^{2}}{2^{k}(k+1)!}}$
So I had to find the convergence radius normally I do ratio test but this will give me 1/2 |x| * 0 <1 ?

lowkey proud of that latex
still has an error though
also, you can just do $k^2$
Bonk
and $2^k$
Bonk
okay but
anyway
help me please ;-;

from k=0 to inf?
$\sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{x^kk^2}{2^k(k+1)!}$
Bonk
okay so $a_k=\frac{k^2}{2^k(k+1)!}$ right?
Bonk
- $x^k$
BrettASUS
we want to turn it into $\sum a_kx^k$, no?
no worries
$\left|\frac{x^{k+1}(k+1)^22^k(k+1)!}{x^kk^22^{k+1}(k+2)!}\right|$
$ \frac{1}{2} \abs{x} \lim{\abs{\frac{2k+1}{k+2}}}$
Bonk
yup, i figured
now we must do limit of the 2k+1 k+2
which will just be 2
|x| < 1?
but if I remember correctly the answer was infinite
how did you get (2k+1)/(k+2)?
$\frac{(k+1)^2}{k^2(k+2)}$
;-;
Bonk
sssh
as k->inf, what happens?
im not in a rush
and what does that mean for the ROC?
aaaaah
for any x it will always be smaller than <1
for the convergence radius is R
(-inf,inf)
yup
easy
๐
and uhm
I had a sum
and we had to calculate |s-s9| <= ?
s= s1 + s2 + s3 + ... + sn ,
so s-s9 , is s10+s11+s12+s13+...+sn
or is that not quite right?
depends
i think it should be
s-s9=s1+s2+...+s8+s10+s11+...+sn
$\sum_{n=1}^\infty (-1)^{n-1}\frac{n+2}{n^4}$
$\sum$
Bonk
ye forgot it
it was this one
what?
$s_n=(-1)^{n-1}\frac{n+2}{n^4}$?
Bonk
having the original is nice ๐
What?
BrettASUS
is there anything above that?
Bonk
btw, this starts at n=1, not n=0 like you said before
true!
whats b? ๐ญ
;-;
i think this is bn
so b10
dont ask me ;-;
thats the entire reason I came here
where is this from
my TA
W
actually, nvm
Rip
im confused too
ill try
great
convergence radius again
with maclaurin series
i thought maybe
ln(4(1-(x/4)) = ln(4) + ln(1-(x/4)) ?
then do maclaurin series for the second one?
Taylor series: $\sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{f^{(n)}(a)}{n!}(x-a)^n$
Bonk
Maclaurin series: $\sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{f^{(n)}(0)}{n!}x^n$
Bonk
so just find f^(n) (0)
you know the definition of the taylor and maclaurin series?
$\ln{4} + \sum_{n=1}^\infty (-1)^{n-1}\frac{x^n}{n}$
BrettASUS
sadly not
.
hmmm
is this correct tho?
/n?
yes?
why cant you just find it of ln(4-x)?
need me to explain the general form?
if it is not too complicated
so, the maclaurin series is defined as the taylor series around x=0
for a function f
as you can see from my definitions earlier
here, f(x)=ln(4-x)
and we need to find its derivatives
f'(x)=-1/(4-x)
f''(x)=1/(4-x)^2
f'''(x)=-2/(4-x)^3
f''''(x)=6/(4-x)^4
and we need to evaluate these at x=0
f'(0)=-1/4
f''(0)=1/4^2
f'''(0)=-2/4^3
f''''(0)=6/4^4
so, what pattern do we see?
what can we say about $f^{(n)}$?
Bonk
yup
alright
$f^{(n)}=\frac{(-1)^n(n-1)!}{4^n}$
Bonk
why not n!?
so, now we fill this into our series
this is so wonderful
$\sum_{n=0}^\infty\frac{f^{(n)}(0)}{n!}x^n$
Bonk
remember that f^(0) is just our function
yup!
$\rightarrow \ln(4)+\sum_{n=1}^\infty\frac{(-1)^n}{4^nn}x^n$
Bonk
f(0)=ln(4)
(i knew you were gonna ask it)
for n=0, we get f(0)

how do i go about this?
I have to subtract the first term from the second
A minus sign before parentheses changes all the signs inside
So A - (B + C) = A **-**B - C
Id rather keep the signs as they are while i solve it so i dont get them mixed up as i already have trouble with that
Similarly A - (-B + C) = A **+**B - C
Do what you want, but sooner or later you can't escape from changing the signs ...
I know
Thats what im saying, ill end up switching them around so much i wont know what ive done and have to start over again
is is 9a^3 b+6ab-10a^2 b+6a^2 b^2+4?
Yes
Ayyyyy!!
i guess it was really confusing bc there was only one uhh common term i could combine
thank you!

Hello everyone I can't recognize which criterion I should apply to study the character of the series.
I have verified the necessary condition but after that I don't know how to continue.
Can anyone give me a little help?
$\sum_{n=2}^\infty \frac{1}{n \space \log_e n}$
Shadow91518
seems ripe for the integral test
@frigid wagon Has your question been resolved?
In my textbooks there is no mention of this test
HOW?
get a better textbook if this is really the case
what tests do they mention?
maybe they mention it by a different name?
- criterion of comparison
- criterion of infinitesimals
- root criterion
- ratio criterion
what's this "criterion of infinitesimals"?
can I share a link? but is in italian language, I don't know what his name is in English
i can probably figure it out so yes share it here
are these the only ones that we're permitted
cause i can tell you right away that root and ratio will be useless
comparison is the only hope, and that only if we can find something to compare against
got it, thank you
unfortunately not but I'll try later, thanks for the help
one last thing but can I rewrite the series as $\sum_{n=2}^\infty \frac{1}{ (\log_e n)^n}$ ?

but you should probably know that e^x outgrows any polynomial
why wouldnโt it
itโs still inf/inf
oh ok so i can do it how many times i want
so long as the conditions are satisfied each time
but i get e^x/6
wait thats not right
then you have 0/inf so you have to adjust actually
oh yeah i could of finished the question after the first derivative
like e^x/3x^2 or do i have to remove the ^2 term first?
you canโt do that
huh
0/inf is not the proper form
oh ok, so we do nothing. we just realize that 0/infinity ^3 is just 0
knief
its not 1/( e^-x * x^3)?
I though 0/inf = 0
Tara u think this reasoning is right?
I think intuitively it's fine, but doing 3 derivative to make it 0/(-6) make it much clearer
so yes, the logic is sound
oh yeah thayt makes sense too
ok, I've check, 0/inf is proper, I think knief is thinking 0/0
is x suppose to be t?
can we rewrite log 2 (t) to ln(t)/ln 2?
yep
yes, but I think we can simplify before that no?
how? like the bracket?
nvm, mistook some property, do l'hos
yep
oh yess
i got correct, just ln2
thank you so much
aight have a good day

how do you prove what the derivative of a^(x^2) is, where a is a constant? how does chain rule apply here
$a^{x^2}$?
Bonk
yes
prove as in with first principles?
uhh with anything
it would apply generally too tho
applying log no
log(-1) is undefined
you mean imaginary
yea
yeye, it was a joke ๐

a square and equilateral triangle have a total perimeter of 10. what dimensions will maximize the total area?
So this is optimization, but im struggling to understand it ocnceptually. we can express the side length of the square as x and sidelength of the triangle as y, and say 4x+3y=10
yes that's a good start
and the total area is x^2+(sqrt(3)/4)y^2
yes, say A =
rewriting y in terms of x and substituting, the total area is x^2+(sqrt(3)/4)((10-4x)/3)^2
man i need to learn how to use tex
i know you take the derivative next, but i dont understand why, or what to do from there
$x^2+(\frac{\sqrt(3)}{4})(\frac{10-4x}{3})^2$
and you want to find x such that A is maximized
yea
ASda
Assuming f is smooth (you can), then does that answer your question?
You want to find the maximum of f
so you take the derivative, find the critical points within x<=10, and test if its a min or max?
yea so in this case its a minimum, so test x=0 and x=10
x = 2.5 i think
what is x=2.5?

answer is like so different from what i got im probably universes away from solving it
3 E
2x^2 - 4x + 1
2(x^2 - 2x) = -1
2(x^2 - 2x - 1^2) = -1 + 2
2 (x-1)^2 = 1
2(x-1)^2 / 2 = 1 / 2
(x-1)^2 = surd 1/2
x-1 = surd 1/2
x-1 = + - surd 1/2
you can't subtract 2 from one side and add to the other

Does anyone know how to solve this
I got the anwser and it's 6384
But I'm confused on how that's the awnser
,rccw
Which number? 27?
u probably want to use picks theorem on 7x+11y<=1001 and subtract 7x+11y=1001 cases
@compact hawk Has your question been resolved?
Wdym
1001?
honestly i would try to find a pattern with diffrent y's, so like
y=91 <=> x=0
y=90 <=> x=1
y=89 <=> x=3
y=88 <=> x=4
but theres prolly a brtter method
Pick's theorem?
you would have yo only check 7 cases with y as it would repeat
yes because 1001 is divisible by 7 and 11. this is required for picks theorem to work, look it up if u havenโt seen it before
(<=> x=1 means there is only 1 x that holds)
The area of a polygon?
isnt picks theorem polygons?
basically you should find a pattern with how as y decreases x increases, and you want to sum the ammount of x's

I have no idea where to start, stuck right at the beginning. Could someone walk me through this please?
$f(x)$ transformed should be $f(x-4)+1$
mathisfun
I mean I think he could probably have figured it out from the table
But yea

Yes
what is the difference
whatโs the context
im assuming one is real numbers?
Theyโre two different variables
The point is they arenโt the same symbol
sometimes in physics they use them to denote inner and outer radius
or is it the same as just having x and y
itโs just two different variables
It doesnโt mean anything they couldโve been a and b
okay cool beans
thank you
Although as potatomonke pointed out sometimes itโs used in a way that makes sense, like big radius R and small radius r (say for an annulus shape)
So that youโre able to keep up with their meanings easier
okay right
in this context though
the context of "transposing formulas" its just two different variables
like theres no relation between the two
anyway thanks guys

How do I convert quadratic standard form to vertex form
This can solve me 4-5
,rccw
Complete the square
Yeah but whats the process
$y=x^2-6x+5$, $y=x^2-6x+9-4$, $y=(x-3)^2-4$
mathisfun
Yes
then add and subtract it from the equation
Mhm
