lol
hojicha spongy box 🤤
dang
Oh I've had the hojicha items

i had a matcha latte from peets once and it was really bad
Yikes
but ever other matcha thing i've had is really good
so
take from that what you will.
it probably just needs a lot of sugar
Slim the type to dislike brown sugar black tea lattes...
"It should have a bitterness to it" ugh
And what precisely is your problem with that?
I don't like bitter things lmao

I think I've said this once before but enjoying bitterness is simply Stockholm syndrome
Dont forget midwest palate ange.
What exactly is "midwestern" food tho?
Like I lived less in the midwest compared to the south and east coast
And more blandness
Not having taste buds
Also sweetness
Not using seasonings in food
Yes
But while I lived in Chicago for instance I mostly just had cafeteria food from the dining hall

Hmm
Uchicagos dining halls... Oh how they failed you
For as bad as caldining was, it always made an effort to expand the breadth of my palate.
I mean tbf there were a lot more options than what I in particular went for
Lol
So if my palate ought to have been expanded then that was on me
Moroccan food isnt the sort of thing that I think of as avoiding bitterness
From what I've had at least
Hmm
So when I was in Morocco the main things I had were... chicken duez was the best no questions asked
Kofta
Kafta?
Someone save this man from himself.
Is that beef?
Yeah
W onion
Sweet, savoury, sour
I mean there are spices in it and salt but it's not something I'd describe as especially bitter
Kofta is good
I love tabbouleh
This just feels wrong
Why
Idk if thats morrocan
Tabbouleh is expressly bitter
I mean to be fair Morocco is different from other MENA places
Ive only had it at a syrian place
Maybe not in north africa
I guess Morocco might have less MENA influence by virtue of geographical distance
Idk what Tabbouleh even is
Berber influences perhaps?
And toum
It'a so good.
Chicken duez, kofta were what I had the most. Couscous sometimes
Tabbouleh is fireeeee🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
How about bitter spices.
There's the ordinary tagine which isn't quite my style as much
mmmm yes
Or like
now u are talking
But yeah one thing about Morocco vs other MENA countries is
Throw on some parsley
Morocco isn't very good at rice
Really
But it's unquestionably the best at bread
I see
Middle east is excellent at rice but the bread is very mediocre. Pita bread is good insofar as it is versatile but
I dont believe I've had moroccan bread
Overall they don't stack up
What sorts are there
Do you consider American bread good? 0.0
they put sugar in their bread
It depends on if you mean american "bread" or american bread
"Bread" with sugar is not bread
daheck is that
This is very standard Moroccan bread
looks like a stone
This looks very good
Dense and fluffy
Enjoyable for eating with things
Yup
german bread
Also Moroccan breakfast food
Very very bread y
Honestly after chicken tagine it's my favorite thing about Moroccan food
I was in Tunesia once, I couldn't even digest their food.
What was it like?
christ bread
🇹🇳
i hate roti and i hate bread
It might have been the water there as well, though.
like for meaty dishes
pita
obviously not eating cereal with roti
Ive had it before eating like Trinidadian food
but im tired of it
and im tired of breads in general
Ah yes, my indian brother
that looks good actually
Im italian 😦
We have shite load of breads
all of them are bad :dead:
Dont you dare disrespect paratha
mirza, btw, did you notice that some of the frog emotes were removed during your absence?
Since i don't eat it that much im not as desensitized to it
Froge

So, yo have chosen death
hmmfrog is gone
Droge
😦
Sad
Frogert
is better anyways tho
Disagree
frogfone gone too

Go calculate an obscure galois group :nice:

Looks pretty good damn
The earlier picture is squareish and it's a breakfast thing called msimin

is it just straight up msimin

@errant kiln you sed or heepy?
I am hippy.
makes sense

going trippy?
they're so gorgeous and delicious
they're like this
that is not me

the first time i tried one of these, i completely lost sight of who i was and what my purpose at that moment was.
milk
it's a milk tea
well the brown sugar is thick
this guy mixed it a little too much
it's best when they're still bleeding together
?
There is tea
And there is milk
And there is brown sugar syrup
And there are pearls
It's a latte because there is milk
You know they just smear the ingredients on the inside of the plastic cup before pouring in the liquid so it looks pretty from the side
Brown sugar milk tea too sweet
looks so good
i have gotten like 4 of these and every time when i get it it's completely separated
and then i flip it to mix it
and then it looks like this
i could go get one tonight
die
i already have leftover marugame udon in the fridge. yum.
I have some left over water, beat that
i hope the noodles hold up
biryani... cringe???
yes
it gets extremely boring when you eat it so much
the stuff you get in restaurants etc is not how it's always made at home either
what's in the fridge right now is a shit ton of rice that's clumped together and won't seperate no matter how much you heat it :nice
the rice is also literally tasteless
i see
how nice
did you have barbeque?
bibimbap, perhaps?
kimchi jjigae?
that looks good
restaurant biryani will never be as good as homemade
why is this bg transparent
i like this word
bibimbap
as in i have liked it previously
just the word that is i have no clue what it means but just the phonetic delivery
i heard it on a T1 video/stream

Interesting read though
hi
so if i know a problem has an error in it
should i try to find the typo on my own
or should i read about what the typo is about
idk what im asking here tbh
yeah you said one of the problem had a typo
what do i do
i didn't read what the typo was yet
1-8 right?
the MSE thread said there was one
and if you get stuck you can check it
but i wouldnt say this is the kind of thing worth spending too much time on
ok
Admission for winter session are starting soon. Computer science is probably gonna be my first option, but I'm also thinking about mathematics, but are there any particular concrete reason for someone to do a bachelor in mathematics apart from fun I guess?
I've never seen someone in real qualify or call himself a mathematician- I don't know if it's because of some sort of audacity or people being humble, but what does someone with a B.Sc in math typically does on a daily basis after graduating
Hmmmmm
in that case I feel like a bachelor in math (for software engineering) is sort of overkill in some way, but even then
wouldn't the computer scientist be better than the mathematician as a software engineer?
No,computer scientists usually can't program
o_O
The purely theoretical ones,that is
perhaps computer science is not the best term to refer to what I'm trying to say hm
yeah, you just need to know how to code
I've been making video games for like 5 years, but I feel like that's not enough. I've got to the point where the code itself no longer interests me and I'm more interested by the stuff behind, or at least concepts like design patterns or whatever
hmm in that case I feel like a B.Sc in math won't be enough unfortunately
@sonic ether what games did you make
well
nothing really, in fact, I haven't entirely made a game yet, but I'm currently in the process of completing one after getting accepted in some development team
nothing too serious, just very simple barebone scripts in some platform named Roblox that barely involves math,
although there is math present for stuff like matrices but welp
Okayy
welp here there is some math
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/689686353021370376/857746540621987880/2021-06-24_18-16-18.mp4
well it's really just some catmul rom spline but yeah
actually catmull rom centripetal mb*
but yeah, it's mostly boring and I'm more interested at assembling a bunch of different systems together like I'm doing in some game I can't unfortunately speak about so the code itself is no longer relevant, I'm more looking into ai, databases, design, theoretical cs, sum math- basically cs stuff
that looks very nice
Wait this is awesome
@azure kettle do you have any reincarnated villainess manhwa recommendations for @blazing pawn

yeah next games on my list are
raidou 1, chrono cross
devil summoner soul hackers
I've read I Tamed a Tyrant and Ran Away

This author is a pretty solid writer
the virgin isekai shounen vs the chad isekai shoujo

There's also the BL isekai
The affairs of the other world depend on the corporate slave
Imdeed
I might also recommend The E-Sports Circle’s Toxic Assembly Camp
These titles sound so trashy
Wow
lmfao
E-Sports Circle's
Does it sound less trashy in chinese
电竞毒瘤集结营
Still kind of trashy
It doesn't really conform to the naming conventions one would expect of sophisticated literature
I see
a stepmother's marchen, beware of the villainess, the villainess lives twice, I tamed a tyrant, it's time to change the genre, this villainess wants a divorce, the princess imprints the traitor, the villainess reverses the hourglass, please throw me away, when the villainess loves, shadow queen
most of them are just girl gets abused then assassinated or something, reverses time, blah blah
some of them are isekai into villainess story
what is 'isekai' what is this weeb speak
isekai is a genre where the MC is transported to another world

it's usually just a crutch tool for garbo authors to make whatever garbo plot premise they want
just to cover my bases, pretend I said the animatrix so that it's technically an anime, I had that on vhs so I know it's real
whenever i launch minecraft it is an isekai
irl inception isekai
every time i log onto discord it's me getting into my isekai
I can't even add or multiply in the real world
but on discord I can take derivatives
inception was actually very heavily inspired by an anime (although nolan doesn't claim it was)
(nolan is lying because some of the scenes are exact copies)
Isekai alignment chart when
honestly that's the perfect crime
nolan is trying not to expose himself as a weeb
only weebs would be able to confirm that it was stolen
or whoever the writer is
but what normie would ever take the word of a weeb?
rip satoshi kon
he made some of the best anime movies ever
and got ripped off by hollywood twice
yeah like paprika
and perfect blue
yeah that was good
(which was ripped off in black swan)
nothing wrong in basing a movie off another, especially another movie made in a different way and a different language
I honestly have never been able to get into anime
but I hate that inception and black swan directors have to deny they did so
when they obviously did
stealing a possibly good plot from an anime and denying it is such a based move
What is the subject of complex variables exactly. Obviously it deals with the complex plane, but how so?
integrals and stuff man'
at least where i was
what i learned in complex variables was just a little bit of the algebra involved with complex numbers
then how to do calculus with functions of a complex variable
learning the results (not proofs) of theorems up to the residue theorem, minimizing the results which are not immediately applicable by engineers
overall felt like calc 3 but with imaginary numbers
so useful for engineers?
well okay to clarify
my school has two classes on this subject
one is called functions of a complex variable/complex variables
which is appropriate for early undergraduate/scientists/engineers
and then we have complex analysis
early undergraduate/scientists/engineers
which is for math majors near the end of undergraduate/ are in graduate school
my brother is an engineer and told me in university while learning about laplace transforms the poles in the complex plane can tell you about the stability of your system
dam
i figure then they do go more into this stuff in their engineer specific classes

I don't know how relevant that stuff is to him in practice though at his job

I know that a sinusoidal can be represented as the sum of two equal, but oppositely rotating vectors in the complex plane. A complex, conjugate pair or something like that.
seems useful to an engineer for some reason
yeah a mechanical engineer for example
yeah, like expressing a fourier transform
could use two orthogonal pistons to create circular motion
obv there are more arcane uses
electrical engineers as well
of which i am not probably informed
I guess I just don't see why you need the compex plane for that, but 🤷
we can solve many real valued problems using complex numbers
In electrical engineering, electrical impedance is the measure of the opposition that a circuit presents to a current when a voltage is applied.
Quantitatively, the impedance of a two-terminal circuit element is the ratio of the complex representation of the sinusoidal voltage between its terminals, to the complex representation of the current f...

REAL ANALYSIS IS GREAAAAAAAAAAAT
Cringe ^!
What the fuck is going on. I feel like I stepped into an alternate dimension; I took a walk to get groceries, heard what sounded like explosions and/or gunshot coming from all around me and when I called campus safety they just repeatedly told me the date and said not to worry about it.
What the actual fuck
I would not be surprised if this was a weird dream or if I'm just experiencing auditory hallucinations. Those are the two most likely things I can think of.
Wait there's a national holiday for fireworks?
Also, I thought it was the American independence day today?
Yeah
I've never heard of fireworks being used to celebrate American independence before
I owned a cap gun when I was a a kid and they sound the same
Like two years ago for college
They didn't do this last year
Yeah for 4th of july americans shoot mini rockets and try to kill each other
that was cause pandemic
yeah monarch literally everybody does it on the 4th
this but unironically
Firecrackers are a frequent occurence for Chinese New Year, but they sound different to these
every year we burn our hill off which the city launches the fitewotks
there are fireworks here all the time
And I mean, it's possible there were fireworks in Singapore and I just missed them, but that sounds unlikely
But like, I was walking through a residential area
Isn't that a massive fire hazard, given that it's the middle of the summer?
yes
don't they cause lots of forest fires
usa usa usa usa usa usa usa usa usa
it's only going to get worse 👍
Oh god why did I choose to move back to America other than that I couldn't extend my Singapore visa any longer
they're fucking stupid
i live in a damn forest and people launched fireworks nonstop here for the past week
i don't think your average american police officer is making that connection in their head ultra
I probably sound like an American as well.
yeah, july 4th is "purge day"
I'm originally from America even if I haven't lived here in forever and my family are all Americans
those movies were such a stupid idea

happy 245th birthday to the entire idea of freedom

that's the small leap to make. the big leap is "maybe i should explain our tradition on this date"
Pakistan is the very embodiment of freedom
how do i spend my 4th of july? model theory.
Well it makes sense that the worst country has the worst traditions.
:pk_heart:
hey mirza?
yea I am spending my freedom day doing representation theory
hey ryc

i used to be disillusioned with america. but then i visited the beautiful parks in utah and nevada. now i am illusioned again.

This image is the perfect encapsulation with everything wrong with America.
feels good to be illusioned nerds

what part of utah were you in RYC, i drove thru at least half of utah and hated all of it
stop using correct information and simple deductions to prove me wrong
how is that possible, it's fucking gorgeous
Yet another example as to why modus ponens is fake.
from east to west along i70 and us50, and then down to southwestern utah
literally a crank

idk some mountains aren't going to impress me i saw plenty of them in colorado, i need some GREEN color here and there
but it felt like being on an alien planet
colorado was also beautiful, but also very familiar to me
given the green
utah was cool because it was so red and orange
nothing is as surreal as being in Kansas tho
also maybe you stayed up in northish utah
yeah i was in the northern half
southwest utah was really beautiful and green, similar to colorado
that might be it
what part of the US is this, looks nice
montana is probably very nice
this is my backyard
monkagiga
there that was a cool part of utah
cedar breaks national monument
it's all green behind me
and then down below
yeah that looks cool, i guess i drove thru all the shit parts?
but there's just this big ass half canyon
that is so cool
we went to arches and it was cool and red but definitely not green at all
yum
puke is more of a tan / puce / olive.
listen to me slim.
this time i'm conceding olive.
even though olive is a nice color
horrid alliteration
impressive
is it?
Yes
slim's been seething about how nice muted secondary colors are for a while now.
he's been cooking these retorts up in his head for what, a month?
wow, that's kind of sad.
whats muted mean
less vibrant
sorry im not interested in honorable drama
or, opposite of vibrant
you’re muted.
,mute @deep mango
This may only be done by a moderator!
isn't it so nice?
it's the dark souls map, but someone made it not shit
anyway these are some lightly muted colors
good
i was about to say this looks like the dark souls map lmao
Oh wow this is incredibly pretty
same
dark douls
i couldnt care less about the game
it looks nice
i been playing ds1 recently its pretty pog
it's just a very aesthetic picture
so basically, i was called a pukemeister for enjoying colors such as those featured in this drawing.
well outside of the old textures the map itself is actually quite well made
especially the oranges and the greens.
So in the game do you start at the bottom and go up or do you start at the top and go down or is it something else?
now this is color
ah yes i puke light blue and teal
Oh if you like abstract art you'll love this one
,av bannanachair
what are you on about

there's one area where you go up but for the most part you are descending in different parts of the map
pukemeister
puke is more of a tan / puce / olive.
i wrote maybe two words about the color of puke
towards the end of the game all the areas are deep in the earth
That's cool.
I'd probably try it if I didn't suck at video games (Like, I can't get off of Tarsis in KOTOR)
I want to know this too

nG i never showed you those trig identities i came up with
no you didn't
they are really bad
Try \right\{ instead of just \{

just toss the 0s in the bottom row wherever
theta=pi/(2n+1) here
{} is objectively the most based way to do this
actually using {} is misguided, obviously you need a category to represent it since a set is too small

The lack of a #probability-theory channel under Advanced Mathematics makes me feel discrimminated against
lumping me in with statisticians makes me feel discriminated against
If we're going to complain about the lack of advanced mathematics channels then why is first year algebra in the same channel as more advanced abstract algebra.
I feel like there should be an "Intro abstract algebra" in early university or something
i agree with bannanachair.
It'll probably be overrun by ppl asking the hs algebra stuff
I should teach it
Oh you meant channel
few times
I thought you meant a class
Well hs students should learn group theory anyway so I don't see the problem
And lol if it weren't ridiculous I'd just use the ICM for channel classification
But no matter what you do someone's gonna complain
no matter what you do im gonna complain
im right there with u
I mean there's a split between #elementary-number-theory and #advanced-number-theory and #groups-rings-fields probably gets more traffic than those two combined.
There's also an arbitrary distinction being made in the geometry channels, between #geometry-and-trigonometry and #point-set-topology (okay this one is just me joking)

Einsiedler/Ward for Ergodic theory, Oksendal for Stochastic analysis/PDE's
I haven't done PDEs but they seem nice

idk some stuff is good
ive been reading Bott/Tu as well this summer
but it's also in a sense kinda dogshit
r/math has some good threads. Not the super popular ones, but sort by new and you'll find some real diamonds in the rough.
Oksendal is good, but unfortunately skips the very cool foundations stoch stuff like Kolmogorov's extension theorem needed to construct Brownian motion formally. I should check out that ergodic theory book
The day you enter a probability class, that day is when you become an "applied mathematician"
i don't think ill ever end up getting very deep into prob/stoch stuff but i do enjoy it
i guess
the popular ones are real dogshit though

im hoping to do quantum info so hopefully i do some related stuff there

cutting edge traffic theory
Sounds riveting.
its more of just using number theory in context but there's more algebraic topics as well as a geodesic flow section?
really mindblowing stuff
tbh sounds interesting unironically
I've been challenged to think of some pure math that has zero math applications. My go-to example used to be k-theory, but I'm told string theorists use k-theory.
Everyone loves traffic

counting string theory as an application
In order to write in r/math you need:
- 1.000.000.000.000 karma points.
- To be in Reddit since 1347.

- Climb Mount Everest 76 times.
- Pass all pkmn games with just one lvl. 5 Magikarp
- Do all Stewart's calc exercises 3 times in a summer.
- Get all Sporcle badges in a year.

i was almost going to say fractional calculus but then i realized there's some SPDE stuff regarding that isn't there
Then there's this other Reddit where you can just ask for help which is what is supposed to be
A wheel is a type of algebra (in the sense of universal algebra) where division is always defined. In particular, division by zero is meaningful. The real numbers can be extended to a wheel, as can any commutative ring.
The term wheel is inspired by the topological picture

funny name means high citation count
teach me floer homology
no
ok
And what about economy?
mmm yes what about the economy
yeah we got to the Koopman operator it seems super cool
learn some SP
Gliklikh "Global and Stochastic Analysis with Applications to Mathematical Physics" is the 🧠 applied math book.
teach me about the gelfand rep
oh goodness
idk what that is

what's SP?
stochastic processes
Idk why but I recommend everyone Walpole probability & statistics
i mean im gonna do that too
not every question is a feed
btw
I will stan economics, or at least some of it
What the **** is a stochastic process?
arnold mathematical methods of classical mechanics
"Functional Analysis, Spectral Theory, and Applications"?
What the ****is an stochastic process?
a stochastic process is something a probability professor made up to get tenure
the chat is moving too fast
the chat is a stochastic process
This textbook provides a careful treatment of functional analysis and some of its applications in analysis, number theory, and ergodic theory....
speccie theory
oh hm
combinatorial species
That means we are brownian motion
do u know what brownian motion is
Jokes
r/wooosh
oh i see

jon got wooshed rip
@inner finch Topological Methods in Hydrodynamics?

yeah i don't use reddit for a reason
someone give them reddit gold
It's a real snorefest

Unless you really like water
Discord is better
i really like water

ryc is a homophobe
Ryc do you have any recommended intro books
Lemarie-Rieusset's The Navier-Stokes Problem in the 21st Century is probably one of the best books out there, too bad it's the most boring Millennium Prize Problem
i do have a yellow name. but that's besides the point.

wow thanks ryc

oki looking into it
has a nice cover ngl
this means the book is going to be bad.
Batchelor is old
still gets recommended all the time because it's good but I don't like old books or old people
this book does look good
the lemarie-rieusset book
more fun than batchelor
where are all my free pdfs though
since 2010 no one has had time to write a good textbook
If it's not written on a typewriter, what are you even doing
I might like this actually
