(a-b)^2

linear programming / linear optimization
oh ok
what is the point that u didn't understand?
all of it i joined this class late and ive never performed a problem like this so i honestly dont even know where to start or whta im really looking for
im not sure how the set up of the problem should look
i dont even know what that looks like

It's a type of trig substitution. Have you learned that before
This calculus video tutorial explains how to use special integration formulas to solve trig substitution problems. Examples and practice problems include finding the integral of sqrt(25-4x^2) and the integral of sqrt(16x^2+9).

In that situation is the 1/2 ignored? to have the tangent?
who is hypotenuse
Is this whole expression the hypotenuse?
solve for tan(theta) and draw a right triangle with that value in terms of x
,tex .sohcahtoa
riemann
$\tan(\theta) = 2x - 3$. because of similar triangles, you can just take adjacent=1
riemann
but you don't need to do the triangle to understand the substitution
no 1/2?
you ignore that?
i didn't ignore anything
x is hypo

I am struggling with part c on both
I assume these graphs are not the right answers
Meant to be a z at top of graph btw
Essentially how do I piece the graphs together
I think I might be right on 2c
But I need help on 1c
make c a constant
that is = z
and then graph it at different values
there should be some graphical view to help you understand
one second
Thats level curves
a contur is if u take it at each part of z in the xy plane

Hello! I need help with this
U know what x in f(x) represents?
yes
f is the is the function and the of the x which is the output
<@&286206848099549185>
@lavish cedar Has your question been resolved?
no
x is the input
f(x) is the output
so as a simpler example, consider f(x) = 3x + 2, then f(0) = 3 * 0 + 2 = ?

I need help on how to solve this
Can i like try to solve it then someone checks my steps and see what i’m doing wrong
plug in the number for x
for example lets say g(x) = x^2-10
g(5) would be 5^2-10
so g(5) is 15
Oh
you got it?
sorry if I didnt explain it that well
ye
is 15
yea
and the g(x) your plugging in g(5) to x so instead of x its 5
g(5) is 15
or g(5)
Why is it 5
oh
nvm
cause x is 5
let me try #1
f(x) = x + 7
How
what i am supoosed to be solving
@broken oak
f(x) is just the eq not a question
Like a is part a
different questions
So i gotta solve 3
for #1
Oh
exactly
you plug the value in for x
would it be 5 + 7
so a. is 12
b is 6
f(5)=12
right?
ok
Wait for a what do i put as the answer
do i just put 12
or do i put f(12)
or f = 12
or x = 12
or what
@fickle kayak Has your question been resolved?
<@&286206848099549185>
Can someone help me with this
would the answer for A be
20
because x^2 is -4 times -4
which is 16
16 - -4
is 20
or is it 16 - 4 which is 12
(-4)^2-(-4)
16-(-4) = 20
2
(-1)^2-(-1)
How
1-(-1) = 2
then 1 - (-1)
Why is it multiply
Oh
i would recommend u put parantheses when plugging in a number squared
later in math
but in this case
-1^2 works with no parantheses
then -x
- = multiply
times
ye
oh
that is times
yes
Then it’s - x
?
is it 1 * -x
What are you referring to right now
Then x is -1
you get 1 - (-1)
Oh
Oh
when you see a negative
Ye
Okg
multiplying
Ok i understand now
ye
(-1)-(-1) is 0
yes
yes
Wait let me try to solve first then you tell me where i did wrong
ight
i was gonna go study myself in a second but
ill do this real quick then sleep
plug in that -3 in that -x^2
3x3
so -(-3)^2
9?
oh
| - (-3)(-3) = -9
Oh
try this
-(-3)^2 + 6(-3) - 4
How
Oh
if u square -3 right
u get
positive 9
but then theres a negative on the outside
| - (-3)(-3) = -(9)
yes that gets u positive 9
positive squared
Yes
That’s -9
that gets u positive 9
Oh
then that negative
Yes
on the outside
9
ye
Oh
-9
this part alone
-(-3)^2 + 6(-3) - 4
gets u to positive 9 cause (-3)(-3) = 9
ye
yep
Write as —(—3)²
so -9 + -18 - 4
yep
Who are you talking to
—((—3)²)
-27
you had a
i mean
ye
ye thats ur answer
Cya
Can someone help me with #5
For 3x^2
Which do i do first
The 3 times or the squared
Like if it’s 3 (-4) ^2
will it be 3 times -4 which is -12
times -12
which is 144
or will it be
-4 squared which is 16
times 3
which is 48
wait nvm i got it
i tbink jts swuared first
squared

... help
im having trouble solving for this
i have logbase 10 (x/2)/(x-2) - 1 = 0
Btw starting a message with . doesn't open a channel
$\log_{10}\left(\frac{x+2}{x-2}\right)=1$
MrFancy
do you think you could simplify that?
i have no idea 😭
$b^{\log_{b}(x)}=x$ :)
MrFancy
let me give you a little push lol and let's see if you see it
$10^{\log_{10}\left(\frac{x+2}{x-2}\right)}=10^1$
MrFancy
@wraith adder see it now? :)
the log and 10 cancel, yes exactly!
so what does this leave?
it leave x+2/x-2=1
egg
yes
egg
yay
yes
did u understand what mr fancy told you?
i think so yes
then whats the problem at?
idk how to simplify that
❌
oopsie
close but 10^1 does not equal 1
wait a minute i have a question why did u set it equal to 10
is there some like formula or somehing
?
because $\log_{10}\left(\frac{x+2}{x-2}\right)=1$
MrFancy
its more simple if you transform 1 into $\log_{10}{1}$
yajatk07
ohhhh ok i get it now
turning 1=log_{10}(10) has the same effect :)
now do you think you can solve the linear equation?
ill give it a try
mr fancy i think writing 1 as log_10 10 will make it much simpler and easier to understand
isnt it
then both side we equalise its values
i think i did it wrong
Yeah
ok 😭😭
egg
egg
WGAT
$\frac{x+2}{x-2}=10\implies x+2=10(x-2)$
MrFancy
yeah its more simpler rather you taking 10 to the lhs
yay
im changing my name bc of u 😭
wait r u born 2007
ok happy bday
thankyou egg
yay
yes
yea
LMAO i rly do i have like 5 exams next week
what
wait hold on lemme find the question
HELP HELP HELP @wild umbra
i got 16
is that right
no excuses
yay
yay
egg
egg
i turned 16 today
wish me happy bday

What step are you on?
1. I don't know where to begin
2. I have begun but got stuck midway
3. I got an answer but I'm told it's wrong
4. I got an answer and would like my work checked
5. I have a question about someone else's worked solution
6. None of the above
Show your work, and if possible, explain where you are stuck.
i don’t know what to do with the x and y’s
In other words i don’t know how to get them onlone
Alone
You need to create a system of equations
Yes you are right that m<1 and m<2 are linear pairs
But you can create another equation
I suggest something with <1 and < 3
sorry but uh idk what u mean
What property can you use with <1 and 3?
I dont really know
Does vertical angles ring any bells
something to do with 90 degrees?
Not quite
fart
Oh okay so some how I can put <1 and <3 together using that
is there a certain formula?
Vertical angles are congruent
Yes
You have two equations now, you can use that to solve the system for x and y
I got 2x+2y=100, x+4y=140 and x-2y=-20
Oh my bad, I didn't see you did a linear pair equation with 2 and 3 here
You didn't need the last one
Having 2x+2y=100, x+4y=140 is fine
..
2x+2y=100, x+4y=140
Anyways with those two equations you have a system of equations, you can solve
How would u suggest doing that? Do I js substitute?
wait yeah that makes somewhat sense

why finding for 8 number of times and 1-( prob for 8th odd) this is not usefull here?
but here its used which also is at most category, is it cos of days avaiable are given?
@simple saddle Has your question been resolved?
at most 7 times
also q2 is at most 4 out of a 6 day period
q1 is until an odd number in at most 7 throws
caring about an 8th throw in q1 is comparable to saying why don’t we look 7 day periods instead of 6
ok so the period is not given thats the reseaon?
the max period is given, it’s 7
okay understood
just like how looking at 100 throws is silly when you throw a max of 7
looking at 8 is silly because 8 is still bigger than 7

Hello! I am wondering if anyone knows how to do for Geometry, "the corresponding parts of congruent figures are congruent"? Here is my current problems:
<@&286206848099549185>
@vivid vector Has your question been resolved?
<@&286206848099549185>
i don't think your second statement would work bc <bcd and <bad are not corresponding angles. youd have to equate <bac to <dac for the reasoning to work. then u could do the same thing for the second set of angles
I see, then how can we transform this to show our proof?
are u asking how i know that <bac and <dac correspond to each other? like how would i break my statement down into a proof?
Yes
look at the given statement. the letters aren't written in any random order. they are written so that the first letter (A) corresponds to the first letter (A), second letter (B) corresponds to the second letter (D), and the third letter (C) corresponds to the third letter (C). because AB = AD and AC is the same length for both triangles, the angles are also the same
i think u can just state that <bac and <dac are congruent angles using cpctc. it is already implied through the given
Do we have to write <BAD is congruent to <BCD?
there is no reason to believe that those two angles are congruent, because they are not apart of the same triangles. that would only work if the traingles were isoceles, but we can't prove that here
I see, so just from there it's fine to put our proof in that AC bisects bad angles BAD & BCD?
yes, using the definition of bisect.
Okay, also one more thing, are you able to help me out on this?
i kinda have to go, but for this one u basically have to prove that pr=sr using cpctc and that because tr=sr, pr=tr. then u have the definition for midpoint
as a general strategy for these types of problems, mark up congruent sides and angles and solve it visually

1/6?
ya so how?

no multiple of 6 in intergers positive neg any
no limits
it's 1/6
what approach to use
oh so small set will translate to big
from 1-6 you mean
yes
why not from 0
only 6 terms?
0-5*
yes?
yes

does "for the next hour" mean that total time is 1 hour?
No
Total is 65 minutes
ok
For 8
i got 175/12
You might be right
But I’ll take my chances
Thank you for your help on it though
Any idea in 13?
ok
move everything to the left at 9km/hr
then we get, standing person at the left
moving flag 9km/h to the left
👍
and person moving person 17km/h
17?
9+8
Why would you add them together
Like
For what purpose
so we know that the distance between 2 people is 11 right
And we know the speeds
when they meet they have moved the same amount of time
so the distance passed by 9km/h boy is 9/8 of the distance moved by 8km/h boy
Got it?
