I got the gold armor and gold mask, but the armor disappeared after I put on some bone armor and mutant armor.

Check your inventory on the far right side, it appears as a gold mask. Had me confused at first too.

you do know that gold armor counts for a full bar of armor? when you put on a different kind of armor it will replace the gold armor
