Hey there @everyone,

The recent worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 has made for some tough times for some.
Lots of people are stuck at home, including some of us.

If you haven't, I strongly advise you to check out the WHO's public guidelines at https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public.

From my own experience, music can be a great way to connect and to cheer you up even in hard times. For that reason, we're giving out a 3-month 75% discount on Groovy premium - this isn't a marketing stunt; it's the minimum we can put it at to cover our own operating costs. If the COVID-19 pandemic persists, we'll be increasing this for the time that people are stuck in their homes. At checkout, apply code STUCKATHOME.

If you're infected, get well soon.
If not, please stay safe.

I hope we can at least make a small impact.
Ravy

Groovy will now deafen itself upon joining a voice channel.

  • this will not impact any audio playback as it can still "speak"
  • this saves bandwidth for us (since we don't receive what you say in a voice channel) as well as Discord's (as they don't need to send it)
  • this protects your privacy (as we don't receive any voice data)

Hi @everyone! we hope you've been doing well with the whole COVID-19 panic going on. We’re here today to announce that we’ve partnered up with Enemy on Board to celebrate Discord’s 5th birthday and brighten up the mood a bit. pika_happy

Enemy on Board is a blend of social deception and combat. From what we’ve seen, it's super fun and has gotten some crazy community feedback. To celebrate that, they've handed us 50!!! steam keys for you guys to try it out in early access. We're going to give away half of those over the course of the next few weeks, and more later with some fun games and contests.

What you need to do to take part:

  • Go to #giveaway-eob and react with 🎉 to partake in the first giveaway
  • Go to #events and react with groovy to get a super cool and unique events role, that will get you notified once we launch a giveaway or contest
#

(btw shh but there will be more giveaways than just EoB; we talkin Groovy prem, nitro, who knows - maybe even merch eyes_shaking )

Hi @everyone. Really sorry to do a ping for this (especially if you're already aware), but this is news that should be spread asap.
Many high profile Twitter accounts apparently got hacked, sending out fake tweets like this: https://ravy.is-a-good-waifu.com/6iyCYk1.png
Please inform your friends and community not to fall for any of those. Any buck not going to the scammers is something we should strive for :)

🎄 Happy holidays everyone! 🎄

2020 has been a wild year for everyone, including us. We hope you'll have an amazing time, and get to end the year on a high note.

Support times will obviously be significantly higher due to most of our staff spending time with their families and friends, be that in person or virtual. Still, we're here for you if the need arises.

Whatever you celebrate, or if you don't celebrate at all - we wish you all the best and a good start into 2021.

slash Slash Commands are here slash

Hey @everyone, we've been working hard over the past weeks to bring you a cool new feature: Slash Commands for Groovy. Below we've compiled a small FAQ for you.

What is it?
Recently, Discord announced 'Slash Commands', a new way to interact with bots by using / as a command prefix. Since this is going to be the future of bots, we've gone ahead and added those to Groovy as well.

How do I use it?
There isn't much that changes for you. To use Groovy, just swap the prefix you've been using before with /.
So, you'd run /play instead of -play or /queue instead of -queue.

Is there anything I need to set up?
A major thing that this changes is how Discord permissions work now.
If you followed our guide on restricting Groovy to channels, you just have to do the same thing again, but instead of denying Groovy from viewing the channels you don't want it used in, you deny the "Use Slash Commands" permission for the @ everyone role.

What are the benefits?
The purpose of slash commands is to make using bots easier for you. There's no need to remember the prefix or exact commands; just type / and watch every bot's commands appear in front of you, including all of their arguments, as well as auto-completion.
A big added benefit is privacy: slash commands do not require bots to scan every message anymore (that's how bots currently operate), which in turn protects you from bots receiving data you don't want them to.

groovy More Platforms, More Features, More Fun groovy

Hey everyone, we're happy to announce that we've added a couple of much-requested features to Groovy:

AutoPlay
When AutoPlay is enabled, Groovy will automatically play related songs after your queue ends. It's amazing for discovering new music, or for when you're background listening and don't want to hear the same playlist every time.
You can toggle AutoPlay using /autoplay

8D audio
Enabling "8D" audio will cause the music to move around you while it's playing using a technique known as stereo panning. It works best on headphones or stereo speakers and adds a unique spin to your listening experience.
To toggle 8D audio, you can use /8d
If you're currently a premium subscriber, all of the above features will already be available for your server. You can learn more about Groovy premium at https://groovy.bot/premium.

BandLab & Smule support
With Groovy, you can play music from a lot of different places. In this update, we've added direct support for bandlab.com songs, albums, and collections. It's also now possible to play content from Smule.

Also, Never Gonna Give You Up just hit a billion views, I'm sure we're responsible for some of those.

Hey @everyone ,

It’s with a heavy heart today that I announce Groovy is shutting down. The team has
been mulling over this decision for a while now and, unfortunately, there’s no path forward that includes Groovy. On August 30th, Groovy will end its service. Any Premium users who paid for service beyond this date will receive a refund over the next few weeks.

Groovy has been a huge part of my life over the past five years. It started because my friend’s bot sucked and I thought I could make a better one. Evidently, you guys agreed. Over the years, Groovy has slowly evolved from a bodged-together personal project into an industrial powerhouse. With every new user, Groovy’s task got more difficult and new challenges emerged. These challenges motivated my learning and its the reason I have a career today.

I want to thank each and every one of you for using Groovy. You all had a part in shaping it into what it is today. I hope you all have a wonderful day, and remember: stay groovy.

Hey @everyone,

During the last couple days, we've heard from a lot of you that Groovy was a major part of your time on Discord.
To properly commemorate Groovy's final hours, we'll be hosting a public ceremony on <t:1630278000> in a stage channel here, where we have fun with Groovy for one last time while sharing a bit more of its history, our experiences, and maybe even invite some of you to share yours.

See you there and stay groovy!
