without any code it's all just theoretical yapping

using async does not in any way stop your function from blocking the rest of your code

inside it can still be blocking code

so you need to make sure those bits are also async, long story short

async def async_function():
    print("I'm also async!")
    time.sleep(2)

async def async_function2():
    print("me too!")

async def main():
    print('Im async!!')
    _ = asyncio.create_task(async_function())
    _ = asyncio.create_task(async_function2())
