Remember to:

  • Ask your Python question, not if you can ask or if there's an expert who can help.
  • Show a code sample as text (rather than a screenshot) and the error message, if you've got one.
  • Explain what you expect to happen and what actually happens.

:warning: Do not pip install anything that isn't related to your question, especially if asked to over DMs.

you only really need recursion when you're processing a data structure that is itself recursively defined -- but sometimes its handy for other cases. I haven't read your code yet

#

but if you're reading something that you call transcript_json_file, wouldn't it be easier to parse it via json.loads first?

I'm doing it

#
with open(transcript_json_file) as f:
        transcript_data = json.load(f)

ah, I missed that

#

then the next question: why not use the built-in find method?

I don't know this method

>>> start = "hayhayhayneedlehayhayhay".find("needle")
>>> (start, start + len("needle"))
(9, 15)
>>>

Thanks for that
