it marks the class inheriting it as an abstract class โ€“ an interface of sorts. An ABC would have abstract methods, decorated with @abstractmethod. These methods usually don't contain any code, but are basically markers that inheriting classes need to implement these methods in order to provide a complete working implementation of that interface.
