But I figured the kind of it
Yeah
@tulip grail Always good to have a pocket full of cat memes
pocket full of sand (memes)

on it
And one Michael Cera
I'm gonna join you guys here in the mute-village. Too loud in vc..

eSSHentials
Well I definitely won't be attending 90s night lol
@shy rapids You're not. You're being told by staff
No no
You can and should also listen to Luna
Mods are mods
It's emphasis, not role play
Just because I can't speak doesn't mean you can get away with shit
We clear?

@tulip grail Don't be a dick

Please tell everyone to stfu

That works

you were supposed to say "I am Mr Hamlock and I approve this message"
Listen to the Chris
EssentialsSH
Just sounds like you're drunk with that one
Like slurring the last part of essentials
Hemlock, are you listening to this?
Get the IT hammer

this was probably the best one

Well too late

With work?
with stuff in general
depressive episodes are a bitch, yeah?
but I'm getting back with therapy, hopefully it all irons out
i like being productive, believe it or not :p
I'd love to be productive but I have trouble getting motivated if the productivity doesn't directly result in "number get bigger" in my checking account
Yeah, that stuff can get bad. Glad that you are talking to someone about it. It can be hard going alone.
ugh, sammmeee
dopamine doesn't do it for me. paying me, on the other hand....
I'm tempted to make a cardboard sign: will code for food
Although I do have an emergency supply of instant ramen, for the first time in 8 years. it's been that long since I've needed one.
i hate that i completely understand this now
I just got back into instant ramen
"why would you ever need instant ramen? food ain't that expensive!"
the adulting in question:
$0.79 per meal is a pretty good price ngl
I did not get it because it's cheap. It's damn good
Oh it's entirely due to price. I am stocking up while I can afford it, and I will be eating it once I can no longer get fresh vegetables for cheap (e.g. when I can no longer afford the gas to get to DeMoulas')
the hell is DeMoulas
This one is sooo good
xXxSSHToolKitxXx
ohhhhh, very neat
u seem rich
looks can be deceiving
She's rich in awesome
DeMoulas' is the original name of our Market Basket, and the way you can tell who's been here a while is whether they still call it that, similar to how the old timers still call Hannaford "Shop'n'Save"
u seem like person that makes 10k a month
SSHToolKit

i didnt
I have been baking my own bread because that's cheaper.
where can i send code
!paste @last crest
If your code is too long to fit in a codeblock in Discord, you can paste your code here:
https://paste.pythondiscord.com/
After pasting your code, save it by clicking the Paste! button in the bottom left, or by pressing CTRL + S. After doing that, you will be navigated to the new paste's page. Copy the URL and post it here so others can see it.
even with electricity?
what kind of bread?
Irish Soda Bread.
baking soda is much cheaper than yeast
Ye
yeah
Not exactly the same thing, though
Is anyone here not broke and philantropist?
people who donate money to broke
it's moreso about giving back to people at large
-# just usually with money-
If anyone wanna donate a broke man cs2 prime
Baking soda and buttermilk, although if you can't get buttermilk, I've found a carefully measured mixture of white vinegar, powdered milk, and water does the same thing.
Taking on projects that benefit others, more or less
This isnt request im begging rn
Usually in the form of lots of money donated or what have you
beggars can't be choosers

u cant sadly

@misty sinew Hi and bye. Sorry, you caught me just as I was leaving
Sure what's up

I just relised how wierd and stupid my question is
There is

There are no stupid questions so long as you learn from it
@umbral rose ahhh, you're a little jokester huh
a little goofer
yeah he's hella uncanny
ferris is awesome yea
laughs in Nix package manager
I thought is was Docker that is heaaaavy
your programming environment must be GIGANTIC @delicate wren
okay snowflake where's my declarative package system at
I want to use pop and such on a list, cause I just like the name of pop and the c++ pushback, pop etc.. names
the names just feel beter
so I wanted to make my own list class
(what do we count as programming environment?)
@wary fable show rice
depends
JUST SO I CAN USE PUSHBACK INSTEAD OF .add()
it counts if there's a tree
my last measurement of rabbitmq inside docker and outside docker had the following conclusion:
docker version takes less space
~200MB instead of ~300MB
I need to learn VM I guess and experiment with different ENV setups
Docker is quite good to destroy SSD write resource, but it's not too bad
don't use VMs
use containers
docker containers ?
unless you need to run non-Linux stuff
docker, podman, bsd jails, solaris zones
docker kills ssd health?
, kubernetes
anything write-heavy does
new to Vir ENV , so is docker easy on brain ?
especially if you don't use btrfs/overlayfs
what part of docker?
like hosting something thats in docker/
ohhh many Writes to SSD from docker = kill drive
imo it's way easier than almost any other approach to developing and deploying software
nix has entered the chat, again
as far as I saw Nix used, it's not more convenient
it has a lot less overhead
well the idea is - biggest system uses W11 , and to experiment with linux stuff
WSL2+Docker
if you have enough space on system drive
or HyperV+Docker if you're feeling experimental
512 GB , M2 for sys
I'm looking into eventually putting everyting into my homelab with containerd and nix, and then accessing it with a chromebook.
Clari is as strait as f(x)= 3x^4+2x^2-x+10
well if you zoom far enough away
ohno I remembered something about zoom
oh wait it wasn't Zoom
Just use skype lol
but it had zoom written as Zoom so I'll send it anyway
docker is going to grow to beyond 100GB very quickly if you do many different things, so be prepared
launch xwindows ?
you gotta install a DE bro lmao
this reminds me of how I tried to use openindiana
which, as I learned, only supports nvidia
and I had an AMD GPU
so it crashed on boot
wheee
and this
total size of all Docker things I have is nearing half a terabyte
my containers are all running off a second hard drive
spread across three disks
was wondering about a 1 OR 2 Tera SSD for extra stuff @delicate wren
XFCE
and four dockerds
Because I deliberately hold on to my logs for five years.
have you been using kde plasma 6 @austere knot?
I bought a 4TB one for the new server
it was the second most expensive SSD I could buy
oh yes I have been
the most expensive one looked like this:
I bought a 2T server drive now maybe regretting not a 4 T drive
in what computer does that ever fit
oh, look, a funny button
a whole
10KB freed
most of my linux customisation was just me fixing linux
and kind of same for windows
the star wars canon is so fucked, so it really doesn't matter

(reference to Valefisk's attitude towards CNA)
no that's Perelman

@tame leaf "how communist of you"
@midnight dagger just use Signal
use Signal
Russia has trade relationship with your country, so they very much do have interest in spying on citizens (and influencing their opinions)
Telegram has history of cooperating with Russia, Iran and others
the thing, that Durov got arrested for in France, is that he didn't give French the same level of access he gave to Russia
so it's fine to use Session, they're building on top of a safe foundation; hopefully they didn't break anything
E2EE
it doesn't matter if it's centralised
in case of Signal
but it very much does matter in the case of WhatsApp
which is re-merging with Facebook
@tame leaf @austere knot
Soviet
@austere knot no, they invaded on the premise of WMDs
which, suprise surprise, Iraq didn't have
"we were looking for WMDs but turns out the real WMDs were the friends we made along the way"
@austere knot why do you think the states need "profit"
@austere knot profit you mean money?
Discord recently added E2EE for voice calls
i understand
(when there are few participants)
discord is analysing all messages in all servers
that's a known and easily demonstrable fact
try sending Tor exe and see
@austere knot do you belive that the government is the apex of control?
the only tech company that truly follows "profits first, only profits" is Oracle
go full security mode: OpenBSD
@austere knot WarThunderOS
"confidential military documents are at a higher risk than your personal data"
@delicate wren You a female techie?
@austere knot But framework is super expensive
I have no idea why Apple did this but take a look.
Can you believe it? Literally, it's a fan-less laptop. It has a heat sink on the CPU while a cooling fan doesnt even linked to the CPU's heat sink with a heat pipe.
This is what MacBook Air suppose to have.
This is a previous version of...
👋🏼 Framework laptop ? I am curious about its battery life , and difference between windows and Linux system
Fidel Castro
Linux system is inexpensive
👀
@midnight dagger could you share your github?
I can get bare-metal one and install OS by myself, just curious whether the battery would be draining fast under Linux
@midnight dagger last time i joined a vc with you said you dont code
It is faster and battery efficient!
Linux consume less storage and resource in general
But if battery is your main concern go for macbook pro
just like the non-apple laptop I have
i wish my latop could do that!
Windows laptop super inefficient
Linux is somewhat easy to misconfigure too
in such a way that it consumes more RAM/CPU
surprise suprise, some drivers are garbage
My experience with Linux was great I had complete authority
but How ?
for example, the open source driver for Asus touchpads is written in... Python
ARM?
surprisingly, no
Doubt
that's just them being weird with how they measure it
they are absolutely not measuring at anywhere high CPU usage
it's just "how up it can stay up doing some meaningful work, specifically displaying a video"
under full load it goes all the way down to only 4 hours
In ubuntu it has tool that can be used to detect the use of CPU
Like process thread
Yea, MacBook will do much better
(max battery life is same, min isn't)
i don't have mac!
But I had friend with mac and his latop lasted longer than mine even though his air was cheaper than my windows 16GB
time successfully wasted 🎉
In the US?
@elder wraith Actually 3 year course in India has 120 credit!
@elder wraith But US has 3 year work permit!

Quick way to become US citizen is to marry US bitch!
@regal gull You chance are very mere!
Visa officer will for sure ask you about your intention to illegally immigrate as you have known person in US
@elder wraith What do you think about China?
China offer 100K salary as well?
In city like shenzhen and shanghai
China is very happily taking Russian software engineers as of late
TRUMP 2024
this time Trump is helping the Russian government instead of the other way around like in 2016
thus competing with Europe/US
But why USA?
Oh!
But I'm sure that they have good amount of opportunity for software developer!
And they require applicant so they likely to hire and pay high amount
Considering China US relations, I have no idea
I mean for Indian it has better chance to get hired and paid 100k in china's big city
They have demand for it!
That may be true. I just can’t speak on it.

oh wait weekly not daily
I thought 15 hours daily
and was, like, "yeah, that sounds doable"
as long as it's under 24 hours, there is no hint of that being the case
hmm
@rotund notch the opposite of what I have in the profile lol
hmm?^^
to some level
i see
i wish i could understand it a bit more
im working on a chatbot
and having trouble
ah, yes, negative years
using discord.py?
package for making Discord bots (including chat bots)
for that, Git is normally used
AI Vtuber thingy
like Neurosmaa
sama
ah git yeah i see, well i want to try to do it on my own but i am lacking some understanding about the basics of coding
like for example
if i have 2 .py files and have to connect them and so on like im almost a total beginner you could say
!d import
7.11. The import statement
import_stmt ::= "import" module ["as" identifier] ("," module ["as" identifier])*
| "from" relative_module "import" identifier ["as" identifier]
("," identifier ["as" identifier])*
| "from" relative_module "import" "(" identifier ["as" identifier]
("," identifier ["as" identifier])* [","] ")"
| "from" relative_module "import" "*"
module ::= (identifier ".")* identifier
relative_module ::= "."* module | "."+
```...
hmm
still !d import isn't that useful
Tomato, basil, and feta egg muffins
I could not..
I prefer to be completely oblivious of such stats when I code
"not really wanting to see
week 1: 80 hours
week 2: 7 hours
week 3: 70 hours"
the amount of work I do is very random
I formally have time requirements at work (40 hours a week) but those aren't formally tracked
and I end up doing around that much
i spent way to much time trying my program to work the way i want in the last 3 days so i slept like 12 hours for 3 days
lol
(I have no daily schedule, working remote, and the amount of things I do is quite randomised)
Hey everyone
hello
sleeping helps with memory a lot, so can sleeping more can accelerate the overall completion time of features/projects
working "without sleep" on code is fine if it doesn't actually involve that much memory; when the context is very localised
yeah, true... but if you dont know what you have to do sleeping wont make you understand what to do
like if you dont know how to write code, sleeping wont help^^
i think i will go with chat gpt through my whole code and ask it line by line to explain me
maybe that might help a bit?
ChatGPT is unreliable
but
it can help you see if your code is easy to understand
if AI can understand it and explain it comprehensively/consistently -- probably the code is simple enough
as for learning -- it might misguide you often
it's like a junior dev that never learns and speculates all the time without realising
well the code was made from chat gpt in the first place
and i got it to work kind off but i t hought i should split my code into different py files so i can work on each part without breaking the code that is working
cause if you run code through chat gpt it sometimes forget code from before and it will leave out code that you might have to use
Videos of people lighting their tires on fire using matches and lighter fluid have quickly gone viral. Incredibly enough, this spectacle isn't just for show. It can prove practical in an emergency when your tires have become flat and no longer form a seal with your wheels. This video delves into the science behind setting tire beads that have be...
Not too shabby. You?
It took me WAY too long to get that
me when i wait for rust to compile:
https://cranelift.dev/ This is the Cranelift aspect
says the man who's on a qubit binge
Seems like Cranelift focuses a lot on WebAssembly
I am the nerd.
Oh it's Daniel. I already bothered him today hehe.
Luna, do you wanna build a snowman?
rust slow compilation also happened to me , does cranelift improve the time ? (besides adding more RAM)
Yes.
Don't hide in your ice castle.
Come out and playayayayy.
I'm gonna build one and tell everyone we built it together and you loved hanging with me so much that you farted a rainbow.
Truth is what I make it.
@mild flume is this the tic marx you speak of?
float Q_rsqrt( float number )
long i;
float x2, y;
const float threehalfs = 1.5F;
x2 = number * 0.5F;
y = number;
i = * ( long * ) &y; // evil floating point bit level hacking
i = 0x5f3759df - ( i >> 1 ); // what the fuck?
y = * ( float * ) &i;
y = y * ( threehalfs - ( x2 * y * y ) ); // 1st iteration
// y = y * ( threehalfs - ( x2 * y * y ) ); // 2nd iteration, this can be removed
return y;
If you start off with a good enough first approximation, Newton's method narrows in on the value really quickly
There's not much to it really. Essentially when you type pun a float into an integer it's approximately like taking a logarithm. If you multiply the logarithm of a number by -0.5, it's like raising the original number to the power -0.5 (same as inverse square root); that's what -(i>>1) is doing. The +0x5f3759df is because the type punning operation is not exactly a logarithm; it's a logarithm plus a number, so you need to add a number to deal with that.
Gotcha
Log 10 is just the number of digits of a number essentially
Log 2 is the number of bits
Yeaaah, e is kind of weird 😄
Do you know about exponential growth, and how it the same as the rate of change of a quantity being proportional to the quantity itself?
Ye
Like population growth is proportional to the population size (when there's no competition for resources), because more e.g. rabbits mean more baby rabbits.
When a quantity is growing like a*e^x, the rate of growth is the same as the quantity. That's essentially what makes e special.
never had that either
Pyserial with Arduino?
What issue are you having?
@tawdry gulch With more practice you retain the information longer each time.
The best thing is to just do a little bit of coding every day, like AC says.
Some stuff you will forget, like the details of libraries that you rarely use, and you'll have to look up each time. Finding the information you need in documentation is a skill you learn.
The stuff you use frequently you will remember though, like the basic language constructs and data-structures of Python.
Do some fun projects 😄 This site is pretty cool: https://www.codingame.com/
seems fun.
Yeah fine. I've just seen that the website I liked above has a challenge on at the moment, so that's going to be my distraction for the day 😄
Hehe nice.
What are y'all doing in VC here today
@mild flume Why I don't have the video role?
You gave it to me. And I did nothing bad.
@mild flume seems like Discord text is back to working without proxy
but slower than with proxy
at least the inital load time is
doesn't work on mobile; likely times out
I can try a different provider for mobile but that'll cost
(I currently pay 0 for the second phone number)_
Good. I'm just going to get worried if you end up disappearing without a way for us to contact you.
new error
I probably forgot to re add it to perma when the probationary period expired, let me look
Huh, haven't seen that one before
new error
Ooooo, I wonder how they'll handle it
firefox, no proxy
I really hope they'll just say "Fuck you, we'll make sure people can still use it"
after a long while it changed to this
@mild flume does it show in voice logs as repeatedly leaving-joining?
Checking
judging by the sound, it might be
I've just heard two connect sounds in a row without a disconnect sound
I'm only seeing 3 leave/join paired events
yeah, then just client-side
Yeah
Because it showed you as steadily connected in the server
Been watching the channel itself
Hello 👋
What're you guys up to today?
gaming 🙂
Which game? 👀
Duke Nukem Forever
Oh 😄
Never played before
I think the last time I played a Duke Nukem game was in like 1999 😄
Ehr mah gurd, durk nurkem
@calm sphinx @lunar hearth Yo to you both
I've never had to zoom out to 25% on a web page just to get it not taking up the whole screen
@next zealot Can you turn on Krisp or mute when you're not saying anything? We're just getting constant background noise from your mic
@rotund bough Yo
psofa
I'm going to take that as a "no because fuck you"?
@thin lintel More likely it's "piss off"
yooo!
How goes it, xin?
!tvmute 698180932372529223 3d If you cannot control your mic and intentionally act like a douche when asked to mute, on top of having a terrible attitude, you're going to have a bad time here. If this behavior continues when the voice mute is lifted, you will lose your voice permissions entirely.
:incoming_envelope: :ok_hand: applied voice mute to @next zealot until <t:1728916648:f> (3 days).
@thin lintel There's no reason to apologize, I choose to be a mod
lol bro u saying that i can not control my mic and when u told me to make it i left thats funny
