i wish to try or be a par of the team that handles the kaggle competition
if it is ok by you i would like to see and learn from the team
@solid gyro are you tea or coffee
Yess
You get lots of spiced tea in India
Ginger tea also exists
We put ginger too, in milk tea
dried ginger mostly
chai = tea in India
so it's weird to hear it being used with a differnt connotation
dammit now i want some
smoking tea is legit
is better than smoking gasoline
to smoke weeb you need to take the leaves from the tree
and not buying it
other wise you are smoking gasoline
smoking smoke is not that good or healty
if you make a safe drug
you might be able to get rich
.....................................................
all drugs are made with gasoline
they are not suppose to make you feel good
gasoline is not supose to make you feel good
.........................
the safest drug is problably weed
if you take from the tree

sorry, what is the topic of conversation in vc?
The ideas of tolerance, rights, etc.
Ah, Thank you!
I think we shifted away from the original point that Laund was making
And by think I mean we for sure did
haha, I can see that π
What did Laund say in the beginning?
The idea of tolerance and understanding is a peace treaty. Paraphrasing, but that's the gist I got
some many ocuurences of the term 'tolerance'
I have birds around my head

takeaway -> tolerance cannot be absolute?
no black or white
greysss
yes yes
A is intolerant of B
Because of that, B is against A
now A argues that B isn't tolerant because B is intolerant of A's intolerance
But this is a flawed argument because A was intolerant first - therefor to maintain tolerance A has to be excluded from it.
gotchit
is there any other concept the same frame applies too?

For another style.
Yeah, there should be a better way, but my brain isn't at peak performance at the moment.
I would use collections.Counter
But
In the event you're expected to calculate that, yourself, I would look at using a dictionary as a counter.
The idea being you loop through the things you're wanting to tally. Those are your dictionary keys. As you encounter a key, you try to increment its value withing the tally dictionary.
If it's not in the dictionary, then you can create the item with a value of 1.
Or you could use defaultdict from collections.
But that might be prohibited, too.
and were it not, you'd just use collections.Counter
the result of which...has a most_common method.
thanks ! think it was settled

Create a function that implements the decrease-by-half algorithm. Its input parameters are a value n
and a value m. In addition, display every value for n and m, and the final result (see example tables in
slides).
Create a program that asks for the n and m values to multiply, and calls the algorithm to solve it.
def russian_peasant(n, m):
if n % 2 == 0:
ans = (n / 2) * (2 * m)
else:
ans = ((n - 1) / 2) * (2 * m) + m
return ans

m = int(input("Enter a second number\n----->"))
print("the answer for ", n, " * ", m, " is ", russian_peasant(n, m))

@elder wraith- can I bug you about Azure?
I'm using Python because I'm scared of PowerShell and I've already written the packages I need in Python
I've been using this https://pypi.org/project/msgraph-core/, but only because it was the first thing I found.
But the quickstart from the app registration uses the MSAL libraries.
I was worried for a second because the above package uses the deprecated https://github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-python, but then I realized I was an idiot and it's ADAL that's deprecated, and that's a different thing.
What actually is the current supported method for Python? Should I get the token from MSAL and then just use requests like the quickstart, or should I work with the Azure SDK?
for doing what?
For my current project I'll be working entirely within the Graph API
To do what?
I'm using Azure SDK right now, to access Table Storage
Client system automatically exports orders and sends them to us via email
I'm using graph.com/users/<upn>/messsages to get a list off messages from the sender, and then I'll parse the email bodies in Python
Supposed to have a meeting with their "integrations department" to actually implement REST or something, but it's already been pushed back like six times
But the emails are templated so I literally just need to auth and get the body contents
Oh, email fetching, use whatever works because Graph API is nightmare
I think MSAL is current but I don't worry about it
@pale pivot
alright then
Oh yeah, I forgot
I do use it for blob
Graph API is hell
Why?
I've just started using it, but it hasn't seemed terrible so far
Are there any other options left? Everything moved to Graph has already deprecated their previous versions, righs?
Graph API
doesn't change the fact it's hell
your only option is Graph API, but you are not going to like it

Not using any locks
What are you working on?
coroutine asyncio.to_thread(func, /, *args, **kwargs)```
Asynchronously run function *func* in a separate thread.
Any *args and **kwargs supplied for this function are directly passed to *func*. Also, the current [`contextvars.Context`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/contextvars.html#contextvars.Context "contextvars.Context") is propagated, allowing context variables from the event loop thread to be accessed in the separate thread.
Return a coroutine that can be awaited to get the eventual result of *func*.
This coroutine function is primarily intended to be used for executing IO-bound functions/methods that would otherwise block the event loop if they were run in the main thread. For example:
Yeah essentially the asyncio loop schedules time on the CPU for different tasks. It runs a task until it awaits an i/o event, where it can switch over to a different task.
Threading seems easier because you're not aware of all the race conditions your program has

Er, I'll try π
asyncio.create_task(coro, *, name=None, context=None)```
Wrap the *coro* [coroutine](https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio-task.html#coroutine) into a [`Task`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio-task.html#asyncio.Task "asyncio.Task") and schedule its execution. Return the Task object.
If *name* is not `None`, it is set as the name of the task using [`Task.set_name()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio-task.html#asyncio.Task.set_name "asyncio.Task.set_name").
An optional keyword-only *context* argument allows specifying a custom [`contextvars.Context`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/contextvars.html#contextvars.Context "contextvars.Context") for the *coro* to run in. The current context copy is created when no *context* is provided.
The task is executed in the loop returned by [`get_running_loop()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio-eventloop.html#asyncio.get_running_loop "asyncio.get_running_loop"), [`RuntimeError`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/exceptions.html#RuntimeError "RuntimeError") is raised if there is no running loop in current thread.
Note
[`asyncio.TaskGroup.create_task()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio-task.html#asyncio.TaskGroup.create_task "asyncio.TaskGroup.create_task") is a newer alternative that allows for convenient waiting for a group of related tasks.
@undone grail
Oh in an embed?
Erm, we don't have a built-in way to do that I think.
Ah right. I think the recommendation in 3.11 onwards is to use task groups.
Pretty cool new feature.
@slate pasture your audio is kind of messed up I think. Maybe it's on my end.

Lx can finally rest
sys.platform```
This string contains a platform identifier that can be used to append platform-specific components to [`sys.path`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/sys.html#sys.path "sys.path"), for instance.
For Unix systems, except on Linux and AIX, this is the lowercased OS name as returned by `uname -s` with the first part of the version as returned by `uname -r` appended, e.g. `'sunos5'` or `'freebsd8'`, *at the time when Python was built*. Unless you want to test for a specific system version, it is therefore recommended to use the following idiom:
```py
if sys.platform.startswith('freebsd'):
# FreeBSD-specific code here...
elif sys.platform.startswith('linux'):
# Linux-specific code here...
elif sys.platform.startswith('aix'):
# AIX-specific code here...
```...
os.name```
The name of the operating system dependent module imported. The following names have currently been registered: `'posix'`, `'nt'`, `'java'`.
See also
[`sys.platform`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/sys.html#sys.platform "sys.platform") has a finer granularity. [`os.uname()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/os.html#os.uname "os.uname") gives system-dependent version information.
The [`platform`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/platform.html#module-platform "platform: Retrieves as much platform identifying data as possible.") module provides detailed checks for the systemβs identity.
os.uname()```
Returns information identifying the current operating system. The return value is an object with five attributes...
Source code: Lib/platform.py
Note
Specific platforms listed alphabetically, with Linux included in the Unix section.
import sys
if sys.platform.startswith("linux"): # could be "linux", "linux2", "linux3", ...
# linux
elif sys.platform == "darwin":
# MAC OS X
elif sys.platform == "win32":
# Windows (either 32-bit or 64-bit)
os.fsync(fd)```
Force write of file with filedescriptor *fd* to disk. On Unix, this calls the native `fsync()` function; on Windows, the MS `_commit()` function.
If youβre starting with a buffered Python [file object](https://docs.python.org/3/glossary.html#term-file-object) *f*, first do `f.flush()`, and then do `os.fsync(f.fileno())`, to ensure that all internal buffers associated with *f* are written to disk.

and you can't even install a vpn without having a vpn in the first place so how will i ever get a vpn

google cloud seems like the best option
since i get 300$ credit

hey guys who can help to sort Json file
i need to sort data, price, and amount
sort entries of a json array/python list?
or sort keys of a json object/python dict?
reply to what?
sort entries of a json array/python list
this is my json file and i need to sort it
sort based on which field?
yes
I need to sort by date, expiration date, price, quantity and name
each one should be separate with its own button
do you know how to sort a list of numbers?
!d list.sort
sort(*, key=None, reverse=False)```
This method sorts the list in place, using only `<` comparisons between items. Exceptions are not suppressed - if any comparison operations fail, the entire sort operation will fail (and the list will likely be left in a partially modified state).
[`sort()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#list.sort "list.sort") accepts two arguments that can only be passed by keyword ([keyword-only arguments](https://docs.python.org/3/glossary.html#keyword-only-parameter)):
*key* specifies a function of one argument that is used to extract a comparison key from each list element (for example, `key=str.lower`). The key corresponding to each item in the list is calculated once and then used for the entire sorting process. The default value of `None` means that list items are sorted directly without calculating a separate key value.
this sorts in-place
how i can get information from this json file?
for different fields you would require different key=lambda item: item["field"] things
!d json.load
json.load(fp, *, cls=None, object_hook=None, parse_float=None, parse_int=None, parse_constant=None, object_pairs_hook=None, **kw)```
Deserialize *fp* (a `.read()`-supporting [text file](https://docs.python.org/3/glossary.html#term-text-file) or [binary file](https://docs.python.org/3/glossary.html#term-binary-file) containing a JSON document) to a Python object using this [conversion table](https://docs.python.org/3/library/json.html#json-to-py-table).
*object\_hook* is an optional function that will be called with the result of any object literal decoded (a [`dict`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#dict "dict")). The return value of *object\_hook* will be used instead of the [`dict`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#dict "dict"). This feature can be used to implement custom decoders (e.g. [JSON-RPC](https://www.jsonrpc.org) class hinting).
*object\_pairs\_hook* is an optional function that will be called with the result of any object literal decoded with an ordered list of pairs. The return value of *object\_pairs\_hook* will be used instead of the [`dict`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#dict "dict"). This feature can be used to implement custom decoders. If *object\_hook* is also defined, the *object\_pairs\_hook* takes priority.

@delicate wren
what does ur name mean?
are you better in c++ or python/
dude
you get to a point in your programming journey when you can learn and language super easily
get really good at python and learn the fundamentals of programming and then it will be 100x easier to diversify your knowledge
thats not what im saying
all programming languages are the same essentially the syntax is just diffrent
learn the in and outs of programming and you can google the syntax easily
no no you are not understanding
C and Python are both imperative
when you are at a point when you know all the concepts of programming and when to use them it is now not a matter of knowing the language
you have google
learning the concepts is 100% harder
i have never used js but if i wanted to learn it i could learn it completely within a few days
and books
that's just arrogance
google the syntax
no thanks
sounds like a brainfuck
the concepts
i think i could but it does not sound fun
sure
a few days
how popular is it
enough for me to do a project
enough concetps to make a proiject yes
lol no

at least one of codewars C katas requires inline assembly
WTF IS THIS ```as
org 0x100 ; .com files always start 256 bytes into the segment
; int 21h is going to want...
mov dx, msg ; the address of or message in dx
mov ah, 9 ; ah=9 - "print string" sub-function
int 0x21 ; call dos services
mov ah, 0x4c ; "terminate program" sub-function
int 0x21 ; call dos services
msg db 'Hello, World!', 0x0d, 0x0a, '$' ; $-terminated message
CURSED
I know some of assembly because it's necessary for upstack software
WTF IS ASM BRO STOP ```as
; hello2-DOS.asm - single-segment, 16-bit "hello world" program
;
; This demonstrates single-character output as well as string output
; via DOS services
;
; assemble with "nasm -f bin -o hi.com hello2-DOS.asm"
org 0x100 ; .com files always start 256 bytes into the segment
; int 21h is going to want...
mov dx, msg ; the address of or message in dx
mov ah, 9 ; ah=9 - "print string" sub-function
int 0x21 ; call dos services
mov dl, 0x0d ; put CR into dl
mov ah, 2 ; ah=2 - "print character" sub-function

mov ah, 0x4c ; "terminate program" sub-function
int 0x21 ; call dos services

unix was 100% assembly when it started
ur right duke
almost all industrial performance-oriented C code uses assembly in some way
