Shell scripting is any shell whatsoever, it's the concept.

Windows command prompt uses batch scripting, .bat files.
Powershell uses .ps1.

On Unix/Linux systems, the standard shell is bash which has it's own, self-titled scripting language, most shells use that language to be interoperable. Though there are some other shells which can be scripted in say, python or JavaScript for example.

not sure if this is the best channel to ask this.. has anyone got advice on how to learn python efficiently? i read that reading code is a good start, maybe something that is well written and implements a variety of things often used?

if you really care about efficiency and you have the motivation, the best thing you could do would probably be start with an intro tutorial on youtube, maybe online courses, and jump into books on programming/python as soon as you are comfortable with them.

I learned from online tutorials, books, reading the docs, and personal projects mostly. But I cannot say I was extremely efficient.

One thing I found helped me a lot (I never used any tutorials/books on basic concepts) and that I believe made learning a lot quicker for me, was to try to make your code as 'human' proof as possible. Ie: making sure you can't crash your program by entering the wrong type of input or giving it an unexpected value - in other words start by learning how to error handle the heck out of your projects even (+ especially) if they're super basic
