Searched what?

tribal aurora
#

that vscode

#

visual-studio-code-bin 1.49.3-1

solid pollen
#

Looked up on the AUR ¯_(ツ)_/¯

tribal aurora
#

that's AUR right?

solid pollen
#

The AUR is one of the arch repo

tribal aurora
#

but where is it

solid pollen
#

The AUR is a separate website

tribal aurora
#

yes

#

I'm searching here

#

AUR

#

I'm searching in it right?

#

@solid pollen

#

what's wrong

solid pollen
#

Googleing “package_name AUR” often works better

tribal aurora
#

ok

#

So

#

I can install with (pacman, pamac, yay)

#

and AUR

#

If it doesn't work

#

@solid pollen I think i'm being annoying , but pls answer me

solid pollen
#

Pacman is the system manager, which can install from various repos, inlucing core, extra, communities, and the AUR

#

pamac and yay are just wrappers around pacman

tribal aurora
#

why it didn't install with AUR

#

when I was installing with pacman

solid pollen
#

It did install it from the AUR

tribal aurora
#

no

#

I had bug

#

But now it doesn't

#

I had bug
It*

#

@solid pollen hmm?

solid pollen
#

Well, it did install it from the AUR

tribal aurora
#

no.

#

It had bug

#

It means it didn't install it from AUR

solid pollen
#

The package didn’t randomly materialize in your computer

tribal aurora
#

wdym

#

Answer this question:

#

why it had bug when it was installed by AUR

#

when I did yay -S visual-studio-code-bin

solid pollen
#

Because either the AUR package is misconfigurated, or your OS is

tribal aurora
#

It doesn't have bug

#

wdym

#

I'm confused

#

I did install with pacman --> it had bug

#

I did install with yay --> it didn't

solid pollen
#

How does that mean it wan’t installed from the AUR

tribal aurora
#

so pacman didn't install it from aur

#

Hm?

solid pollen
#

It diiiiiidd

tribal aurora
#

why it had bug then?

#

?

#

@solid pollen

solid pollen
#

Because someone messed up at some point?

tribal aurora
#

ahh

#

wdym

solid pollen
#

Well, I don't know, the guy who created the AUR package maybe misconfigured something?

tribal aurora
#

anyways... I had better experience with Kubuntu. More stable than Manjaro... No bug with vscode... one official package manager that install everythings ... lower memory usage than Kubuntu....

remote socket
#

maybe you're having a problem with yay

tribal aurora
#

i dunno

remote socket
#

have you tried git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/visual-studio-code-bin.git, cd visual-studio-code-bin, makepkg -sirc?

#

(with a tmp directory, or something)

tribal aurora
#

vscode is working now bro

remote socket
#

Did you do the steps that I provided, or something else?

#

either way, neat

tribal aurora
#

I don't know if it is worth not to switch to Kubuntu again ..

#

man, vscode is fine now

#

no need to do anything else

remote socket
#

What did you do to fix it?

tribal aurora
#

used AUR

remote socket
#

so the git clone and all

tribal aurora
#

does pacman uses AUR?

remote socket
#

yay can have some problems sometimes

tribal aurora
#

or yay

remote socket
#

neither

#

pacman is the package manager, AUR/yay is for user repos

tribal aurora
#

you use Manjaro?

#

@remote socket

remote socket
#

arch

tribal aurora
#

great

#

so you choosed newer apps?

#

@remote socket have you system ever broken?

remote socket
#

No.

tribal aurora
#

did you know both lemon and ves use Ubuntu?

#

good

remote socket
#

I used to use ubuntu

tribal aurora
#

and?

remote socket
#

meh

tribal aurora
#

how was it

#

why

#

why did you switch

remote socket
#

not enough customization

tribal aurora
#

I use Kubuntu

remote socket
#

I wanted a challenge

tribal aurora
#

Kubuntu is better

#

At least better than Manjaro

remote socket
#

doesn't really matter to me

tribal aurora
#

It uses 800 MB and start up

#

but Manjaro uses 1.2GB

remote socket
#

if I can program on it, I'm good

tribal aurora
#

how is yours?

remote socket
#

haven't checked

topaz aurora
#

but Manjaro uses 1.2GB
@tribal aurora and that's based on your current set up lol

tribal aurora
#

hey

#

😂

topaz aurora
#

Again, I've told you mine runs on 500 MB at idle

tribal aurora
#

where did you come from

#

😂

remote socket
#

I mean

#

this is an open conversation

#

anyone can come in

tribal aurora
#

yea

#

anyways

#

500 MB is good

#

but

#

Mine is laggy

solid pollen
#

Nowadays the system memory is negligeable

topaz aurora
#

The fact that I'm able to multitask better on my potato running Linux is good enough for me

#

Can't even run Discord + VSC on Windows

remote socket
#

same

#

if I'm using my laptop with windows any surface that the hardware is on is surely to catch fire

#

actually I haven't used my laptop in such a long time that I think I should probably wipe it and start a new arch install

topaz aurora
#

Kinda neat how I can run Spotify + Discord + Neovim w/o a hitch

remote socket
#

do you use i3?

topaz aurora
#

XFCE

eager trout
#

Yeah, if I ran windows on my potato, I'd probably smash the potato

remote socket
#

ah yes

#

xfce looks pretty good

solid pollen
#

To be honest most DEs are cool

eager trout
#

I ran xfce once but it looked like pringles

#

kde has all the glam for me

solid pollen
#

Prin... gles?

topaz aurora
#

@eager trout Should've installed themes then lemon_smug

eager trout
#

yeah lol

remote socket
#

something like xfce for performance, kde for looks, i3 for I use this computer a lot, gnome for "doesn't matter to me"

#

xfce does a really great job at performance tho

eager trout
#

yeah, Gtk is pure C

solid pollen
#

i3 is for “I don’t have a lot of screen space”

remote socket
#

i3 is for terminals^inf

topaz aurora
#

I don't have a lot of screen space and i3 doesn't help with it lol

#

Maybe if I use TUIs

eager trout
#

same

topaz aurora
#

which I don't

solid pollen
#

Well, at least it is supposed to be better than other DEs

eager trout
#

i3 is good if you have a wide ass screen

remote socket
#

manjaro with community-built i3 is actually really good

topaz aurora
#

I might actually buy a second monitor if I could afford one

eager trout
#

I would only be able to run like two half scaled apps

topaz aurora
#

I might actually buy a second monitor if I could afford one
But it shall be vertically-oriented

remote socket
#

oooh

#

yes

#

good idea

solid pollen
#

Why are you like that

remote socket
#

amazon does have a bunch of pretty good monitors for cheap

topaz aurora
#

Why are you like that
@solid pollen Rhythm games

remote socket
#

I was not thinking of that lol

#

I was just thinking "one long boi console"

solid pollen
#

Ah lol

topaz aurora
#

I mean it would be multi-purpose

remote socket
#

but a vertical monitor would do good for osu mania

#

or games of that sort

topaz aurora
#

Docs, Discord, a long terminal

remote socket
#

"I can see my entire essay"

#

ah crap I should do my essay

solid pollen
#

Haha

tribal aurora
#

😂

remote socket
#

it's due in a week but still

#

I don't want to get due date anxiety

inland wolf
#

lol

solid pollen
#

(It’s me or hackernoon is down)

#

Wait

#

a week ain’t a lot haha

#

What’s your essay about?

remote socket
#

500 word essay?

#

a week is a lot

inland wolf
#

just do it now

#

lmao

#

so finihs it

remote socket
#

that was the plan

topaz aurora
#

500 word essay?
@remote socket a week ain't a lot for that

inland wolf
#

then u have nthin to worry bt

solid pollen
#

Ah alright, that’s not a lot

remote socket
#

relative to my other essays

#

500 word essay in a week is a wonderful feeling

solid pollen
#

Well, I guess it also depends on the subject

topaz aurora
#

Flashback when I had to fill in a chapter or two for my research

inland wolf
#

my school doesnt give me essays

#

which is worrying

#

cuz in higher studies

#

i wont know how to write a good essay

remote socket
#

yeah

inland wolf
#

shit

solid pollen
#

Never wrote any essay lemon_pensive

inland wolf
#

bruh

solid pollen
#

I kinda want to write one, for some reason

inland wolf
#

same

#

but i cant find an interesting topic

solid pollen
#

Well, assuming that the subject is interesting

inland wolf
#

lmao

remote socket
#

@solid pollen write one on why typing is a good build-in lib

solid pollen
#

Haha

remote socket
#

I want a 2k word essay

inland wolf
#

bruh

remote socket
#

complete with thesis

inland wolf
#

akarys gettin homework

#

wtf is a thesis?

#

oh no this is more worrying

#

frik

remote socket
#

yeah that's worrying lol

inland wolf
#

yes

solid pollen
#

Thesis is.. no

remote socket
#

works cited

solid pollen
#

Haha

remote socket
#

all quotes are to be block quotes

#

(4+ lines)

#

commentary/analysis should be equal to 2 times the amount of lines the quotes take

solid pollen
#

Is that an actual rule they can give haha

remote socket
#

yes

#

MLA formatting

solid pollen
#

Wut

remote socket
solid pollen
#

That’s pretty precise lol

remote socket
#

oh you have no idea

#

there's so many different rules for citations

solid pollen
#

Where’s the artisitic freedom at haha

remote socket
#

especially in the works cited page

#

essays? freedom? you're already trapped

solid pollen
#

Haha

#

PEP8, but for essays

remote socket
#

I once had to write an essay that I clearly disagreed with the topic on

#

I've never been so mad writing an essay

solid pollen
#

Nice, what was that about?

remote socket
#

I don't remember

#

I just remember being mad

#

something about

solid pollen
#

... lol

remote socket
#

uhhhhhhhh

#

oh yeah

#

it was on a book

#

about the conclusion of a book

#

what it represented

#

the prompt was something along the lines of "Explain why (wack ass statement) is true"

solid pollen
#

Ah yes

remote socket
#

a better prompt would be "Do you agree with (wack ass statement)?"

#

maybe even "Given an explanation to why (wack ass statement) is true/false"

#

just something different from me being forced to agree

#

alright I'm going to go do homework-type stuffs

#

cya people

solid pollen
#

Cya

inland wolf
#

bruh wtf is that rule

#

im scared

#

so many rules

mild abyss
#

the prompt was something along the lines of "Explain why (wack ass statement) is true"
@remote socket i kinda wonder why some teachers give essay questions that wont let people think or give opinions regarding a subject. weird that it is not open ended. are they training people to just accept the “truth” that was given without giving them the chance to criticize? 🤔

Being able to express a position other than your own is pretty important

Hi.

#

When I used PyInstaller to convert a Python file to a .EXE file then Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and McAfee Anti-Virus were running a scan they both detected the file that I created as malware and I scanned it through the VirusTotal Virus-Scanner but then it was showing 15 positives.

#

Any help?

cosmic lotus
#

Does your program do anything with your system in any way?

viral nexus
#

No.

#

Even I put print("Hello World!") it is a malware and still the same.

#

Hello?

tribal aurora

Guys need help

#

I don't why this happens

#

it happens sometimes when open a program

#

viral nexus
#

Hi.
Any help?

cosmic lotus
viral nexus
#

I don't know I installed Avast Free Antivirus and it also detected the PyInstaller Python .EXE file as a malware.

cosmic lotus
#

The exe made using pyinstaller?

viral nexus
#

Yes.

tribal aurora
#

I couldn't use pyinstaller

#

I used to use it sometimes in the past

cosmic lotus
#

If your program doesn't have anything suspicious, it's most probably a false positive so the most you could do is send a sample to your AV vendors

viral nexus
#

But is this suspicious it spits out the Wi-Fi passwords of the connection you are connected to and gives out the Mac Address and IP Address of your computer.

cosmic lotus
#

Oh i see

inland wolf
#

it it self doesn't sound like a virus but it can be used in malicious ways

cosmic lotus
#

Yeah

viral nexus
#

And the IP Address is the public IP Address of your computer.

inland wolf
#

hmm

#

so how is that harmful?

viral nexus
#

Here's the code:

inland wolf
#

I mean can't u just Google what is my IP and get the same result?

viral nexus
#

while False:

command = raw_input(print(username + "@" + hostname1)).strip()
if command == 'ip_set':
    # Python Program to Get IP Address
    import socket
    # Python 3 code to print MAC
    # in formatted way.

    import uuid

    # joins elements of getnode() after each 2 digits.

print("The MAC address in formatted way is : ", end="")
    print(':'.join(['{:02x}'.format((uuid.getnode() >> ele) & 0xff)
                    for ele in range(0, 8 * 6, 8)][::-1]))

    hostname = socket.gethostname()
    IPAddr = socket.gethostbyname(hostname)
print("Your Computer Name is:" + hostname)
print("Your Computer IP Address is:" + IPAddr)

elif command == 'wlan connect':

            try:

Yup tried to create a terminal.

inland wolf
#

I think the reason Ur AV thinks it's a virus is cuz the exe isn't signed

cosmic lotus
#

!paste

royal lakeBOT
#

Pasting large amounts of code

If your code is too long to fit in a codeblock in discord, you can paste your code here:
https://paste.pydis.com/

After pasting your code, save it by clicking the floppy disk icon in the top right, or by typing ctrl + S. After doing that, the URL should change. Copy the URL and post it here so others can see it.

inland wolf
#

it has happened to me b4 too

viral nexus
#

I don't know what the heck is a signed .EXE.

inland wolf
#

like u know when u run an installer

#

and it asks u should this app be allowed to make changes to Ur computer?

#

with a yes or no?

#

there it says the publisher

#

eg. Microsoft

#

that's signed by Microsoft

viral nexus
#

No it does not do that and it has no installer.

cosmic lotus
#

Are you using the --onefile arg?

viral nexus
#

No.

inland wolf
#

then do it

#

also

#

what I said above was to prove that exes are signed

viral nexus
#

But I am not creating a .EXE file with PyInstaller ever again.

inland wolf
#

and it's always been confusing to me on how to sign it

#

lol

viral nexus
#

I will use IExpress.

inland wolf

#

Guys how much is your swap partition and your ram

high verge
#

Well paging on windows for me is 20gb atm

#

8gb of ram but I need more

#

Tasks that are probably more appropriate for 16gb

cosmic lotus
#

I'm trying to figure out how they did it

#

The effect's most probably WebGL, so the question is how did they pass the DOM elements to WebGL

lofty dirge
#

16GB of RAM, my page file is 9GB but using almost none of it

rough sapphire
#

I use 10gb swap

#

its usually good to give 1x, 1.5x your ram amount

terse sluice
#

yeah, 16gb ram, 24gb swap

#

but on my laptop i have 8gb ram and 16gb swap

solid pollen
#

I have 16Gb RAM + 5Gb SWAP on my NVMe, good enough tbh

terse sluice
#

won't be great if you try and hibernate

solid pollen
#

I don’t hibernate ¯_(ツ)_/¯

rough sapphire

hibernating in linux is slow to me than shutting down and restarting GWcentralPikaLUL

hibernating is nice for me since i dual boot

I never boot windows, I don’t seem to really have a need for it

rough sapphire

I don't even have windows 😳

terse sluice
#

autocad, photoshop, music prod software, and some games don't work on linux sadly

and don't say gimp for photoshop lol

rough sapphire

I only play true games like Minecraft 😎

#

also yeah I don't do any of those

#

If you become a streamer, well lot of people are streaming in linux

#

so there should be an alternative

terse sluice
#

i can stream fine on linux

#

obs works

solid pollen

I’m scared that the uni will make me use a windows laptop because CAD programs

yeah, i have to use windows for autocad lol

I read that as computer aided rafting haha

terse sluice
#

lol

rough sapphire
#

I gotta ask... how does hibernating help with dual boot? Ive never really used the hibernate on pcs.

#

I have problems streaming on linux but its definitely an nvidia issue. The software all works, its just there is a tendency to crash and the quality gets really bad.

Like crash the entire system, not just OBS.

But I have better luck using other tools than OBS

How much do you charge /h for consulting on that stuff?

for a very long time, java was the main language for data science

it is dying in terms of data science. Julia, R, and Python cover all the possible use cases that Java might have covered

oooh i havent heard Julia. but imma stick to R and Python since i know R (i forgot though) but still a noob on python

undone berry

That's what all of my lectures seem to be this year. Painstakingly walking through something step by step when it's the kind of thing that you could relatively easily pick up on your own - and in my case stuff that should be prerequisite knowledge for that unit

hey that's happening to me

Are you also virtual?
I think the worst I experienced was professor trying to explain matrix math when his apple pen died so he was using his finger to try and write.

young shoal

yeah for a computer science class

undone berry
#

I am virtual - spent 30m today explaining how to turn this into a set of constraints - despite the fact that it's literally taught as part of GCSE maths here (16yos)

#

and someone kept drawing on the zoom whiteboard thing

#

and the lecturer kept trying to figure out how to fucking clear it

young shoal
#

haha my math teacher didn't know how to stop that so people kept drawing things

undone berry

and this is supposed to be final year bachelors/masters students

frozen crane

that does sound like a class that would use java
@graceful basin I'm taking an AI class right now and it's Python

graceful basin

I mean, that is the more sensible choice. But if you have a competent ai prof that worked in java his whole life, he is gonna teach java

frozen crane

maybe. my advisor recently decided to switch from perl to python for her nlp class even though she can't compose in python

It's probably the smallest of the cities I listed.

Either that or San Diego. I'm not sure which one is smaller.

But San Diego and Los Angeles kind of melt into each other.

sour forge

Does that mean they don't have definite borders?

#

Or is that advanced english I am too illiterate to understand?

quaint rivet

cities have borders?

sour forge

Yeah they do

tired haven

@sour forge Yes, that is pretty much what it means

quick ledge
#

There are many places in the US with names of other places

quaint rivet
#

melt into one means they're too small too differentiate from each other

quick ledge
#

like Porlkand

tired haven
#

@quaint rivet Officially, yes, cities have borders. Unofficially, no.

#

melt into each other means the population density never becomes completely rural between them.

quaint rivet
#

ohh

tired haven
#

You can't draw a definite line where Los Angeles stops and San Diego starts.

quaint rivet
#

yeah

rough sapphire
#

Also, what used to be small towns around cities are increasingly part of the "Greater Area" of that city.

#

Obviously the west coast has been a string of cities with no rural areas until you move inland for a long time

#

But that is happening in places everywhere now

#

anywhere they have cities at least

tired haven
#

Well, Los Angeles itself is a bunch of small towns and cities that just grew into each other.

rough sapphire
#

yeah

#

that happening here in Texas is whata i mean though.

tired haven
#

Yeah.

#

If you visit Los Angeles, it's obvious by the street patterns that there was no master plan.

rough sapphire
#

yeah. Here thaat depends on where you are. In Austin they have the grid system that imitates New York (just much smaller). But in San Antonio, it wasa obviously a much older city, and it doesnt make a lot of sense. It was a preautomobile city.

tired haven
#

Ah

rough sapphire
#

But yeah, the formerly rural people that the city is growing out to are often very bitter here.

#

But its happening.

tired haven
#

Well, their property values are increasing, so that can't be something to be upset about.

frozen thorn
#

property values are crazy here

rough sapphire

eh depends on too many factors to say that.

@young shoal Please, I'm fire lord

rough sapphire

At 14 I was a skater kid.

frozen thorn

When I was 14, I tried running some distro on chromebook

I liked weed a lot when I was in high school. But I grew out of it. I still kinda like it. But not enough to go out of my way for it.

tired haven

I don't like it enough to deal with the aftermath.

#

It just makes me exhausted afterward.

rough sapphire
#

Hrm, I didn't have any negative effects from it but I know that some people do. The most common one is social anxiety.

eternal wing
#

I was always really bad at math in high school. But it turned out I was just bad at high school

tired haven

I usually enjoy the experience itself but not the aftermath.

rough sapphire

Interesting. I feel that way about alcohol. lol.

frozen thorn

I think high school is a waste of time

tired haven

40 hours a week. And here I'm spending time like 10-20 hours in college

#

not just in classes

tired haven
#

Alcohol is the thing keeping me from having a 6-pack lol.

high verge
rough sapphire
#

to be fair when I was in high school, the web was not a place of active commerce the way it is now.

#

To be a prodigy back then, you needed someone to get you into computer science

tired haven

Me neither.

quaint rivet
#

Alcohol is the thing keeping me from having a 6-pack lol.
@tired haven but u still manage to have six pack just not the one u want

rough sapphire

Otherwise you were likely just a kid witha geocities page

tired haven

@quaint rivet I want both.

#

But can only have one.

quaint rivet
#

can't have them both 😔

tired haven
#

I have also grown to dislike running which is unfortunate.

rough sapphire
#

I basically only like alcohol in environments where other people are drinking and it would suck to be around them sober.

#

Thats the only time I drink

tired haven
#

I have at least one drink every evening.

#

almost every evening.

eternal wing
#

I have at least one drink every evening.
that may not be too bad, but you are maybe getting into unhealthy territory depending on how many

tired haven
#

beer usually.

rough sapphire
#

I used to be a marijuana smoker of that frequency but not anymore. I live a mostly coffee fueled life now.

tired haven
#

@eternal wing It's probably a little unhealthy, but I balance it with weightlifting and cycling, so meh for now.

rough sapphire
#

It used to be I would drink and smoke on occasion with people but now people occasions are not common

#

So its just coffee for me

eternal wing
#

yeah, caffeine is my go to xD

#

addiction runs in the family, so I am overly cautious haha

frozen thorn
#

I drink soda, tea, water, milk, and juice. That's it

tired haven
#

I tried buying some tea recently to replace the oral fixation with alcohol in the evenings, but it just isn't the same 😕

eternal wing

soda water can kinda work for some people

Eh...

eternal wing

#

I hardly ever drink soda.

eternal wing

soda water == no sugar

tired haven
#

Yeah, like Perrier, I get it.

rough sapphire
#

Alcohol just has an effect htat I dont like unless there is a social situation. In social situations, its perfect. But if im alone, it just puts me off my game.

tired haven
#

I feel like alcohol just takes the edge off in the evenings for me.

eternal wing
#

ive known a few people who replaced alcohol with soda water, weirdly enough. Does not work super well doe haha

I can definitely relate xD

yeah, i can't imagine the taste of soda water being a suitable replacement.

eternal wing

im kinda taking the month off of drinking, but I do not drink very often.

#

it is not very suitable

frozen thorn
#

Replace beer with root beer?

rough sapphire
#

If its a sub threshold dosage of alcohol, like one drink... that doesnt bother me that much. But if I can feel it, it will make me not enjoy whatever im reading, watching on netflix, etc

eternal wing
#

but it helps if you need something to replace haha

tired haven
#

Well, the problem with soda soda is that the sugar will do the opposite of alcohol and act as a stimulant.

eternal wing
#

I really enjoy the affects tbh, but I am very cautious with it, so I end up barely drinking ever

tired haven
#

I need to cut down. It's going to age me too quickly if I don't cut back.

eternal wing
#

the easiest way to cut down is to not buy it haha

tired haven
#

People who drink a lot look haggard when they're older.

eternal wing
#

or rather limit how much you buy it

tired haven
#

Well, I mean, that's easy to say, but it's almost an addiction.

eternal wing
#

yeah, I know. Not trying to imply that it is easy

#

plus most grocery stores make you walk through a mile of alcohol to get to the actual food.

tired haven
#

When I'm craving a drink I'll walk a mile to the grocery store to re-stock.

eternal wing
#

well at least you walked a mile LOL

tired haven
#

I'm saying I WOULD.

#

I usually drive there.

eternal wing
#

rip

tired haven
#

lmao

rough sapphire
#

tbh, I know what its like to have an addiction to pills, so I relate, but the nice thing about that is you just get away from them 100% and its pretty easy. I havent taken pills in years.

tired haven
#

I have walked a mile to get beer before, though.

rough sapphire
#

But if my problem was alcohol...

#

I respect that that has to be hard

#

You cant get away from it

eternal wing
#

it is literally everywhere

tired haven
#

Well, it's not like I put up a fight against the urge or anything.

eternal wing
#

a lot of people are not very understanding of alcohol addiction too, I have seen. Lots of peer pressure due to alcohol's perception

tired haven
#

I just accept it as a normal part of my life right now, but at some point it's going to become an issue.

eternal wing
#

yeah, sadly that is kind of how my parents always were. They are just in denial now and the affects are clear.

tired haven
#

Yeah.

rough sapphire
#

Yeah alcohol is the only drug where the users of it will break it out in front of you aand demand that you do it with them

tired haven
#

It has probably already caused a little premature aging.

rough sapphire
#

In some cultures they will be strongly offended if you decline

#

Its kind of ridiculous

tired haven
#

Yeah, it is.
